In this installment, Cherry Campbell takes you on a journey through the scriptures to illuminate the critical differences between the new birth and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The episode sheds light on why believers need to experience both and offers a compelling argument for pursuing the baptism as a separate and powerful encounter. With references to both biblical and personal teachings, listeners are invited to explore a deeper, immersive experience with the Holy Spirit that empowers faith and witness.
SPEAKER 01 :
Good morning. Welcome to Victorious Faith. I’m Cherry Campbell. This morning I’m going to begin sharing with you another message that I preached in our Victorious Faith services called The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Benefits of Speaking in Tongues. And if you’ve been listening to this program for a few years, you would have heard this teaching before. However, I want to say that even as Paul reminded the church at Rome, as he said, I want to remind you of the things I preached to you. And to the church at Corinth, he said, I send Timothy to you to remind you of the things I have taught you. And then in 2 Peter 1.12, Peter also said, I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth. So he said that he would continually remind them and it’s not a burden to him to remind them again. And why do we need to be reminded of things? Because we let things slip. Deuteronomy 4, 9 says, only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget things. the things your eyes have seen, or you could say, or what you have heard, the teaching you’ve heard, or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget. the things you have heard or seen in the word, the revelation, or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. So that’s the reason why we need to hear things over and over and over again. For one thing, we get more revelation, but for another reason, we cannot afford to let them slip. And this teaching is very important, very vital, very fundamental and foundational for every Christian. And I believe that hearing it again, even if you’ve heard it before, you’ll get more insight, understanding and revelation from it. But you’ll also be freshly inspired to stir yourself up to speak in tongues every single day. So join me now in our live service for the beginning of this message, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the benefits of speaking in tongues. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. equipment God has given us that empowers us supernaturally even more than we understand. And that’s why earlier in part of my prayer, I said, Lord, your word says that we know in part. And Lord, we ask you to show us more parts. Add parts to the parts that we already know. Because I think several of you, if not most all of you, know some about this, maybe have experienced it to different levels, but we need to know more parts and more revelation of this. Amen. So God said in his word, 1 Corinthians 14, 1, follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts. Everybody say eagerly desire. Say, I eagerly desire. I. Spiritual gifts. Hallelujah. First Corinthians 1231 says, but covet earnestly the best gifts. And so what does the word covet mean? It means to burn with zeal. It means to be heated or to boil in a good sense, to be zealous. In the pursuit of good, to desire earnestly, to pursue, to strive after. You know, God doesn’t tell you to covet very much. As a matter of fact, there’s almost very little else. I can’t think of anything right now that God does tell us to covet. Most of the time, coveting is considered bad. And don’t covet. Do not covet your neighbor. Do not covet this. Do not covet that. Do not covet money. Do not covet. Do not covet. Do not covet. Here’s one thing God said to covet. Wow, that is important. That is important. He told us to covet the best gifts and eagerly desire spiritual gifts. And so God wants us to burn with zeal and be zealous in seeking spiritual gifts. Hallelujah. And especially we’re going to get into this, the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Let me start. Let me keep it in line. The baptism in the Holy Spirit. Let’s talk about that. What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit? First of all, let me just quickly give you the definition of baptism. Because if you come from a Catholic background to you, baptism means sprinkle. But in the Greek, baptism means to completely cover by immersion in something that envelops on all sides. to completely cover, to immerse or submerge. That means not a sprinkling, but going under. And then the baptism in the Holy Spirit is being completely covered on all sides by the Holy Spirit. You see that? The baptism in the Holy Spirit is being completely covered on all sides by Now, there are groups of Christians that do not believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit being second or being separate, I should say, from the new birth. They say, I was born again. I have the Holy Spirit. And they say, that’s it. That’s all there is. There’s nothing else. That’s not true. There is a second experience for all Christians. Now, let me explain it. In the new birth, the Holy Spirit comes in you. I didn’t remember. I had your notes there. Baptism to completely cover by immersion in something that envelops on all sides. But in John 14, 17, the spirit of truth, the world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he lives with you and will be in you. The new birth is when the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside. And when you’re born again, you do have the Holy Spirit. Amen. You have the Holy Spirit. He’s in you. Praise the Lord. When you are born again, you are born of the spirit. John 3, 5 and 6. Jesus answered, I tell you the truth. No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the spirit gives birth to spirit. So we’re born of the spirit. But in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit comes upon you by very definition of baptism. The word baptism means to be covered completely. So it’s coming upon you. Hallelujah. And Acts 2, 3, they saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. The Holy Spirit came in the King James. It even says he came and sat on them and cross your legs a minute. This is what happened on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came and sat on them and covered them completely on all sides. I can’t quite cover her completely, but I’m trying. That’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Judy. Praise the Lord. Now, how would you like God to just come and sit on you? Amen. Amen. Now, that is the baptism in the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit came and sat on them. Praise the Lord. And so then also in Acts 1.8, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Notice again, the Holy Spirit will come upon you. Now, I want you to notice something. I’ll show you, give you proof that there are two different experiences, right? The new birth is one and the baptism is a different experience because I missed one. Oh, I didn’t do this one. I’m going to read this to you. John chapter 20. If you have your Bible, you can open to John 20. In John 20, this is where Jesus was raised from the dead. Let’s turn there. And this is after his death on the cross and he went to hell and he was buried. This is when he rose from the dead. John 20 verse 1. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. Now, what day of the week was it? the first day of the week. Now look at verse 19 on the evening of that. What day? That first day. What day? First day of the week. Is this the same day? Yes. So he rose early on the first day. And then on the evening of the first day of the week, when the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, peace be with you. After he said this, he showed them his hands inside. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. And Jesus said, peace be with you. As the father sent me, I’m sending you. And verse 22. And with that, he breathed on them peace. He breathed on them. Stop there a minute. I want to remind you of what God did. In Genesis chapter two, verse seven, God formed the man from the dust of the ground. What did he do? Then he breathed the life of God into Adam and Adam became a living being. So breathing, what does that do? It gives life. And so Jesus did what God did. Jesus did to the disciples the exact thing that God did to Adam. Adam was created a living being and he was spiritually alive. But then he spiritually died. And then Jesus came and breathed spiritual life back into the disciples. So the disciples were breathed on life, the breath of life. And Jesus said, receive the Holy Spirit. Now, there have been questions. What did this mean? Because in Acts chapter two, they received the Holy Spirit. It’s simple. The breath of life is new birth. They were born again right here, John 20, 22.
