Our Beliefs:
ABOUT GOD
There is one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is the creator and sustainer of the universe and all living things. He is perfect in holiness and righteousness, exists independently of his creation, and yet is deeply involved within it.
ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God incarnate, eternally existent and uncreated. He is the second person of the Trinity, both fully God and fully human. Through him, God created the universe. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified as a substitutionary atonement for sin, was buried, and was then raised by God in physical resurrection. He will return again to judge all of humanity.
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit’s is the third person of the Trinity, and as such is fully God. His primary role in the life of the believer is to make Jesus Christ known to us, counsel us in the truth, convict us of sin, and empower us to live holy lives pleasing to God. Having inspired the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit is the teacher of God’s Word and the guide for daily living.
ABOUT THE BIBLE
We hold the Bible to be God’s inspired Word without error, and everything we need for knowledge of living faithfully in obedience to God. The Bible was written by the authority of the prophets and Apostles under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Old and New Testaments are the supreme and final authority for faith and life.
ABOUT HUMANITY
Human beings are the only creatures made in the image of God. As such, we believe that human life is of supreme value. Human beings are both physical and spiritual creatures. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Green Mountain Christian Church.
ABOUT SIN
Sin is a lack of conforming to the will and character of God. It is an action, attitude, or lifestyle that misses the mark of God’s perfect holiness. We believe that everyone is guilty of sin (Rom.3:23), and that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin (Acts 3:19-21; Rom.3:24; 10:9-10; 1Cor.6:9-11).
ABOUT SALVATION
Salvation is not earned by anything we do, but is solely a work of God, by his grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our faith is expressed in belief, obedience, repentance, confession, and believer’s baptism (through immersion). In salvation, we are justified (declared innocent of all of our sins), sanctified (set apart as holy in God’s sight and conformed to his image), and will one day be glorified (resurrected in the New Heavens and New Earth).
ABOUT THE CHURCH
The Church is the body and bride of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit to go out into the world and make disciples of all nations. It is comprised of all believers, past, present, and future, expressed in individual local churches that gather in weekly, communal worship of God. The church is to be the salt of the earth and light of the world, proclaiming, defending, and living the good news of Jesus Christ.
ABOUT THE FUTURE
The Bible is clear: Christ will return and God will ultimately be victorious. Those who have accepted Christ’s offer of salvation will receive eternal life, while those who have not will receive eternal separation from God.
