(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Sunday night that it has dropped 2,000 bombs across Iran in the first two days of Operation Roaring Lion, marking one of the most intense aerial campaigns in Israel’s history.
According to the Israeli Air Force (IAF), the pace of strikes matches the six-day tempo of Operation Rising Lion in June 2025, but this time air superiority over Tehran was achieved far more rapidly. By late Sunday morning, after 1,200 bombs had already been dropped, Israeli and U.S. aircraft were nearing air supremacy in Iranian airspace.
Israeli officials say the primary objective is a comprehensive dismantling — described as a “root canal” — of the Islamic Republic’s ballistic missile infrastructure. After reducing Iran’s missile stockpile from 3,000 to roughly 1,300 during last year’s campaign, Israel was frustrated to see Tehran rebuild to an estimated 2,500 missiles in just eight months.
This time, the IAF is not only targeting missile production factories but also raw materials, launch sites, explosives storage facilities, and command-and-control structures. A strike in the Qom region destroyed a missile launch site containing hundreds of kilograms of explosives, reportedly thwarting dozens of planned launches toward Israel.
Israeli officials say targeting internal security headquarters is intended to weaken the regime’s ability to suppress ongoing anti-government protests.
While the IAF acknowledged limited drone losses to Iranian air defenses, officials said the losses were minimal and have not slowed the campaign’s pace.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that three American service members were killed and five wounded in Iranian missile and drone attacks. American forces have also struck Iranian naval vessels, preventing any attempt to block the Strait of Hormuz.
Notably, unlike the June 2025 campaign, strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure have not been heavily emphasized. While there were vague references to parts of the Isfahan nuclear facilities being hit, there has been no confirmation of action against Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile or the underground facility near Natanz.
Israeli officials are reportedly hoping for at least a week — and possibly several weeks — of sustained operations to degrade Iran’s missile capabilities and further weaken the regime’s grip on power. However, analysts caution that the Islamic Republic, with millions of loyalists, could potentially endure prolonged pressure.
Hezbollah in Lebanon and Yemen’s Houthi movement have so far refrained from entering the conflict, even after the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader last week — an event they had previously described as a redline.
The pace and scope of Operation Roaring Lion signal a significant escalation, with Israeli and American forces seeking not just tactical gains but strategic, long-term degradation of Iran’s military and regime infrastructure.
