(Worthy News) – Iran’s sweeping internet blackout has entered its fourth week, leaving millions of civilians cut off from global communications as the conflict with the United States and Israel intensifies.
Monitoring group NetBlocks reported Wednesday that the outage has surpassed 600 hours, marking 26 consecutive days of restricted access. The group said the blackout severely limits civilians’ ability to obtain information during wartime, raising concerns over transparency and human rights.
The disruption began shortly after U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated airstrikes on Feb. 28, targeting key Iranian military infrastructure and major cities, including Tehran. In response, Iran has fired missiles and deployed explosive drones against Israel and neighboring Gulf states, escalating regional tensions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged the blackout in a recent interview, defending the move as a necessary wartime measure. He stated that while government officials retain internet access to represent Iran internationally, restrictions on the public are intended to maintain security amid ongoing attacks.
However, rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, warn that such blackouts are frequently used by Tehran to suppress information, limit accountability, and obscure potential abuses. The group noted that Iran has a documented history of imposing communication shutdowns during protests and military crises.
State-run Iranian media outlets have also experienced intermittent outages, further restricting access to official information. The government news agency IRNA was reportedly inaccessible as of Wednesday, complicating efforts to track developments inside the country.
Meanwhile, diplomatic signals remain mixed. Iranian officials denied reports of renewed nuclear negotiations with the United States, contradicting earlier remarks by President Donald Trump suggesting progress toward a deal.
As the blackout continues, the information war inside Iran underscores a broader struggle—not only over territory and power, but over truth itself in a time of conflict.
