So you know, here he is wanting to be with us and he’s saying in revelation 320, behold.

He wants to be involved with us and what happens then when we put up all our boundaries and and we put up these walls and we say no, I don’t really want to follow what you are putting on my heart right now.

I know that we end up feeling really like we’ve lost our joy like we’ve lost our peace.

Well, we know who our peace is. The Prince of Peace is Jesus, and we know who our joy is.

You know where we bring him our ideas and our dreams, our goals and our motives to do.

The scripture from Jonah, 28 and in the amplified version it says that those who pay regard to false, useless and worthless things turn away from their own mercy and loving kindness.

So if you are controlling your life and you’re making decisions, you’ve got your own agendas and your own goals, your own dreams, that you want to have come true for yourself.

Lord, those things are worthless and you are turning away from your very own mercy and loving kindness, mercy and loving kindness will bring you peace will bring you joy.

And it’s the best kind of joy, I thought of this yesterday when we were on the on the radio and and I’m thinking of it again.

Who was in the desert? He found himself in the desert.

How he got to the desert we don’t know. But he never knew any kind of ocean life or lake.

Here’s the sea lion in the desert, but sea lions are not made for the desert, are they?

No. And he did have one tiny puddle, one tiny puddle.

It was just a murky, muddy puddle and he loved his puddle.

Sea lions are made for water.

And here’s this sea lion living in the desert, and he’s got his one puddle and a a sea turtle comes along and this sea turtle has also never seen any vast amounts of water.

Only seen puddles here and there.

And the sea Lion told him, you know, I keep having these dreams every night of so much water that I’m just swimming and swimming in this water. And there’s beautiful things in this water and and it’s like.

It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen here.

And the sea turtle tells them all you get.

You’re never going to find anything like that, so just keep enjoying your puddle.

And really, this story is about us.

We are in this.

We’re on this planet, but we’re not made for this.

We are eternal beings and we are made for something much greater than this. And when we decide that there is something here that we really like.

Something that seems to satisfy, but it only satisfies in the moment.

It’s not satisfying for the even the whole.

You know, it doesn’t last a whole day, whether that’s watching movies, reading a book, going shopping, eating.

Whatever it is, we find our puddles and we think that puddle is so fun to just splash around in and it’s it gives us plenty of enjoyment.

And that puddle is nothing compared to the ocean we’re made.

And God has created us for an ocean of.

An ocean of his love. And that’s what we want to keep our eyes on.

Because when Jesus says, behold, I stand at the door and knock. He is not just knocking to be in us, he’s knocking.

To invite us to the ocean, to invite us to greater things. Greater things.

Wow these these devices that we have in front of our faces all the time now have so many games on them and that can keep us really distracted.

And it is fun.

Those games are fun and they can feel satisfying to be in the middle of them.

But they’re not truly satisfying.

They don’t really meet the need or fill the hole within us.

Only Jesus can do that.

And so listening to his promptings and obeying, opening the door to him and spending more time with him, that’s how we will feast with him. He becomes our feast.

He satisfies us in every way.

Communion with him is better than any food that we have on this planet.

Yes, that’s why I love verse 19. Before you get to verse 20, behold, I stand at the door because he’s talking to you about there’s going to be times when you need discipline and correction.

Because you may be going in the wrong direction or I’ve got to bring you back. And sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes it’s losing your relationship, sometimes it’s not doing what you desire to do, like around Christmas time. You’re not going to be shopping like.

Do or that kind of thing. And I love that that Jesus is warning us.

And so many of us have been content with the little puddle.

So what we see are the games and the shopping and the eating, and that’s what we see. That’s what we grab for, right, but.

There’s a way of connecting that is so satisfying and so fulfilling.

That you don’t even want what you used to want it.

It fills all the spaces. That’s right.

There’s no one as good as him, and he fills up all the little empty spaces of our lives.

That’s amazing in song of songs Chapter 3, it starts out saying night after night. I’m tossing and turning on my bed.

And we can get to these places in our lives where we feel like we have lost that joy.

We have lost the peace and it’s OK, that’s OK.

The darkness comes.

And weak might be tossing and turning, but that just shows us there’s more.

There’s more than sleep. There’s more than shopping, more than playing games.

And he is so beautiful and so satisfying.

Go back to the place where you might have lost him. You know, if you if you are not with him.

There’s something that happened in your life, and maybe maybe you gave up on praying.

Go back to prayer with him. Then maybe you gave up on being in the word and studying his word and making sure that his word has priority in you.

Start reading his word again.

Spend time with him that way.

Go back to these places that you might have left him because of disappointment or discouragement.
