Good morning. Welcome to Victorious Faith. I’m Cherry Campbell. This morning, I’m going to continue sharing with you the message I’ve been sharing with you that I preached in one of our Victorious Faith services called the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Benefits of Speaking in Tongues. So join me now in our live service for the continuation of this message, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Benefits of Speaking in Tongues. Prayer in general is a weapon. It goes right with the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God and praying. So those are your weapons. The rest of them are more defensive. You put on the belt and the breastplate and the helmet. Those are all defensive. And the shield, and that’s defensive. Those are all defensive. But then it gives you two offensive weapons. Take up the sword of the spirit and pray. Those are your two offensive weapons in the spirit and prayer and all kinds of prayer that could include your prayer in tongues because praying in tongues can thwart the purposes and plans of the enemy. God can intervene and disrupt. What Satan is trying to do. And tear down. Principalities and powers. Tongues is powerful. We’re going to get to more of what it can do. But then you also pray with other prayers. Prayers of faith. Prayers of agreement. Prayer of authority. And these kind of prayers. But just take up prayer and the word. And those are your offensive weapons. Amen. That’s a good point that you brought. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. And so you speak in tongues. Now, I want to give you 10 reasons why every believer should speak in tongues. Reason one, tongues is the initial sign of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. And I won’t go into a long theological explanation, except that we see in the book of Acts, chapter 2, verse 4, all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and tongues. And what? Began to speak in other tongues as the spirit enabled them. So we see that when they were filled with the spirit and they spoke in tongues. And then to me, this is very significant. In Acts chapter 10, this is when Peter went to Cornelius house, the first Gentile believers. And Peter went and preached to them. And yet it was against Jewish culture for a Jew to go into the house of a Gentile. And yet, actually in verse, he was preaching in verses 43, 44. And then after he was preaching her, it says while he was still speaking, actually, while he was still speaking, the circumcised believers who had come with Peter Let me back it up. Let’s go there. We need to get before Acts 10. Go to Acts 10. Let’s get the earlier scriptures. Okay, in Acts 10, verse 44. I just needed one more scripture there. Verse 44. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came, what? Upon or on. All who heard the message. Verse 45. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. Verse 46. Why? For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Now the key here is that the Jews never believed that a Gentile could be saved. They never believed they could have the baptism. They never believed they could have the outpouring of the spirit. They were astonished. And yet what was the proof that convinced them? These Gentiles have what we have. What was the proof? They heard them speaking in tongues. So if there had been anything else, if they had just sang psalms and, you know, bless the Lord on my soul and all that is within me. I mean, that would have been beautiful, but you can not be saved and sing that. You don’t have to be a Christian to sing a hymn. What convinced the Jews that the most unbelievable thing is the Gentiles are saved and have the same Holy Spirit we do. What was the convincing thing? Tongues. If tongues is what convinced them, it was the evidence that they had the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then it can be our evidence to bottom line. It’s our evidence to because a lot of other things are natural. You can be a good person and not be born again. I’m sure you know somebody who’s really a good person, but they’re not saved. So being a good person, you can go to church and not be saved. You can give offerings and not be saved. But what is the convention? This is supernatural. You can’t do this if you’re not saved, if it’s not real. I mean, some people can imitate you, but that’s not really tongues, and you’re going to know it’s fake. But these people were all speaking in tongues, I mean, like languages. And it was an evidence to them that they had received the same Holy Spirit. Amen? Amen. Praise the Lord. So, number one, it’s the initial sign of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah. Remember, in Acts 19.6, When Paul places hands on them in Ephesus, the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke in tongues. What happened when the Holy Spirit came upon them? They spoke in tongues. So we have another scripture in the book of Acts. And then we see in Acts 8, 18. This is in Samaria. When Simon, what? Saw. Now, how can you see the Holy Spirit? You can’t. That the spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles hands. He offered them money. You can’t see the Holy Spirit. So there had to be a physical evidence. Tongues had to be the evidence because tongues is physical. You can’t see. He saw the spirit was given, but you don’t see the Holy Spirit. So he had to see something physical. There had to be physical evidence. And that convinced him, and he offered money for it. Nope, those were not supernatural tongues. Those were when God divided the languages of the earth and people knew what they were saying, but they couldn’t understand somebody else. So that was not the Tower of Babel was not supernatural languages. That was where God divided the languages of the earth and everybody knew what he himself was saying. But he didn’t understand what anybody else was saying. So that was the birth of natural languages. And then, number two, reason two, tongues for spiritual edification. Tongues for spiritual edification. This is another important reason for speaking in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14, for he that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself. And that word edify actually means to charge like charging a battery. And we know what that’s like. You charge your cell phone. And the word edify means to charge. So you are charging your spirit, man, and energizing your spirit within you when you pray in tongues. And that’s powerful. I mean, for example, if you have a car that is operated by battery, you don’t want to be driving to work and stall halfway to work and on the side of the road because your battery goes dead. Well, your life needs to have some battery charge and you do it by speaking in tongues. You don’t want to stall out in life, having no power, no inner power, no energy, no spiritual strength. So praying in tongues charges your spirit, your inner man, praise the Lord. And then another reason for praying in tongues is for giving thanks and In a supernatural way. I mean, yes, we can give thanks in our natural language, but we can do it even better in tongues, in supernatural words. So sometimes you just feel like praising the Lord. Oh, glory to God. Hallelujah. Oh, you know, you couldn’t just say it all in your own language. There had to be a little bit more added to it. Some supernatural power. Amen. And I want to go back to first Corinthians 14 for a moment in first Corinthians 14, 15. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. So you do both. You give thanks with mind being your understanding. You give thanks with your understanding, but go to another level and give thanks in tongues. And do it on a supernatural level with supernatural words. Amen. 1 Corinthians 14, 15. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit. I will also sing with my mind. Verse 17. You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. That’s because you’re speaking personally and to God. You’re giving thanks to God. So this says you are giving thanks when you speak in tongues. And that’s one of the things that you can be saying when you’re in tongues. You can be praising God in tongues. And then number four, tongues reminds us of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. When you pray in tongues, let me say it like this. It makes you conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit. You cannot pray in tongues and not be conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit. I mean, I’m very conscious of the Holy Spirit. He’s rising up in me. And so reminds us, I like saying makes us conscious of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. We become very conscious and aware of his presence when we pray in tongues. John 14, 17, for he lives with you and will be in you. But when you are just born again, there’s a lot of Christians who are born again and who don’t have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And they’re always trying to say, I don’t feel like God is with me. You know how to fix that? Pray in tongues. You can get rid of that problem. I just don’t feel like God is with me. By praying in tongues, and boy, God is all over you. You can feel it. Feel him. I mean, you start praying in tongues, you’re not going to have any question about, is God with me? You feel him. You know he’s there. He’s real. So you get rid of that question. Is God with me? I don’t feel him. Well, just pray in tongues and you will. Amen. Hallelujah. And Galatians 5, 16, you live by the spirit. You will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. You cannot do very, you cannot sin very well while you’re praying in tongues. Have you ever tried to do any sin and be praying in tongues while you’re doing it? I’m going to go steal and pray in tongues while I robbed the bank. Or think of someone who wants to commit adultery and they’re going to go pray in tongues while they’re committing adultery. It doesn’t work. You can’t lie while you’re praying in tongues. So if you have temptation, pray in tongues. Because it’s not very easy to sin while you’re praying in tongues. If you’re having bad thoughts, pray in tongues. So whenever you feel temptation or even worries or doubts, pray in tongues. It energizes you. It charges you. You feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. And it can shoot out those thoughts of fear, doubt, unbelief, temptation. The presence of the Holy Spirit becomes very real. Hallelujah. Reason five, speaking in tongues brings the tongue under subjection. James 3.8, but no man, now I italicize the word man. Let’s put it like this. No flesh can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil full of deadly poison. A lot of people would look at that and think, oh, we’re hopeless. But the Holy Spirit can tame your tongue.
