Friends, might I ask, how many times have we paused in a moment of anger or a moment of grief or some type of trouble that we are facing and we remember something that helped us at that moment or maybe gave us hope? A moment of, this is the direction that I need to go. And answer that when we hit that trouble, we remember something that helps us at that moment. Well, there we go. The power of remembrance. Of remembering things. You know, as one studies the Bible, one learns pure truth and how many times do we remember the things that are needful. In 1 Timothy 4, 6, Paul instructed the young man Timothy to put brethren in remembrance. And if so, he would be a good minister for Jesus Christ. Of course, the brethren, or Christians, would also be reminded of things needful for a faithful walk. Friends, we all need reminded. You probably have a reminder on your smartphone. You probably have a reminder with a calendar. I remember when my mother and father were living, as I affectionately called them, Mama and Daddy. When they were living, I remember they had a calendar and they had another calendar with all the doctor’s appointments on it. And so we are constantly trying to remind ourselves. Now, time will not allow us to look at all the admonitions to remember, but we’re going to consider a few for our study today. Before we do that, a few words from our J-Web.

Let’s begin with Ecclesiastes 12 and verse 1. Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, I have no pleasure in them. Now, friends, let’s note why to remember. Well, we remember before the difficult days come, the evil, the troubles, decisions that would possibly lead you down a path you do not want to go. We would pause here, since this is written to the youth, Young people, root yourselves deep in the Word of God. Colossians 2, verses 6-7, As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. So root and grow that faith deep, so it will abound, and when the years draw near, you will have grown as God expects you to grow. How beautiful! I mean, you think about it. Jesus Christ as a youth remembered. Luke 2 and verse 40, the child grew and waxed strong in spirit or developed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon him. And in verse 52 of Luke 2, and Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. Now friends, this exhortation to remember from Ecclesiastes 12.1 is to children and parents as well. Remember Ephesians 6 and verse 4. And you parents, provoke not your children to wrath, do not exasperate them, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The plans and goals of our youth should be sowing good seed for not only today, but for tomorrow. Let’s remember this. Here’s a second admonition of remembering. Luke 17, 32. Remember Lot’s wife. Now, Jesus is referring to Genesis 19, verse 26, when Lot’s wife looked back, when commanded not to turn back and look unto Sodom, and she became a pillar of salt. Well, Jesus used this account, as well as in the days of Noah, to teach, let’s be prepared when the world ends, or friends, when we die. Worthy are the words of Peter from 2 Peter 3, 7-12. But the heavens and the earth, which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire unto the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, What manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Friends, those are warnings to be prepared from the Scripture. And you know how prevalent they are. We must remember these things and be ready. Let’s remember this. Here’s a third. Luke 24, the scripture simply says, And they remembered his words. That’s Luke 24 and verse 8. Let’s look at the context. Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they and certain other women with them came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day shall rise again, and they remembered His words. I suppose you could say that things were brought to mind. You know, sometimes something is mentioned to us, and you know what, I had not thought of that, and I appreciate you bringing that to mind as we say. Remember His words. Remember not only would He be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, but But remember, He would rise again. That’s the good news, the gospel, the death, the burial, the resurrection of Christ, 1 Corinthians 15, verses 3 and 4. The gospel that those Corinthians received. They had it preached unto them. It saved them and they stood therein. I love to look at Romans 6 verses 1 through 6 especially. Verses 3 through 6 it takes the death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ. And parallels a person dead in sin who needs to be buried in baptism to be raised to walk in newness of life. What an awesome passage. The resurrection of Christ was preached on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2. It is part of the gospel message. And friends, we need to remember the words of Christ. He did rise from the dead. And we have a charge that we too rise from the dead. When we are dead in sin, how beautiful that we can believe in God. And through that faith that is necessary, Hebrews 11 and verse 6. moves us to change our lives by repentance, the command of Christ in Luke 13, 3. To confess Him, Matthew 10, 32 and 33. And from that faith, we confess Him, Romans 10, 9 and 10. And then, friends, we’re baptized into Christ, just like we see in Romans 6. To be raised to walk in newness of life. To have our sins washed away, Acts 22, 16. And for our sins to have remission, Acts 2, 38. Oh, friends, what wonderful things to remember. May we help you in your memory.
