I am Almighty God, walk before me. Words to Abram and words of which we should walk and live. Let’s take the word and walk before God today from the International Gospel Hour. Stay right here.
SPEAKER 02 :
Hi, this is Jay Webb for International Gospel Hour. Welcome to our broadcast today. For over 90 years, Churches of Christ have proclaimed God’s Word through our broadcasts. Just ahead is another Bible-based lesson with Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour. Let’s begin.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, thank you always to our J-Web. You’ll hear from Jay throughout our broadcast. He will be sharing with you a special Bible study by mail a little later on. And we are grateful that you are with us today to study the Word of God together. Greetings and hello. Thank you for being with us once again. We’re going to begin our study today with a text about the father of the faithful, that being Abraham. at the time called Abram, let us notice Genesis 17, 1-5 as our lesson text. When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, I am Almighty God, walk before me and be blameless, and I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly. Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. Now this is the fifth time that God reminded Abraham of his promise. To make Abraham a father of many nations. And God knew what he had in Abraham. To walk before me and be blameless. Genesis 17 verse 1. God could see the righteous life of Abraham. And you know today, friends, God makes it possible for one to walk before him. And what a great life ahead. God could see the blameless life of Abraham. Now, it wasn’t sinless, but rather a life of service and devotion, a faithful life before God. In 2 Timothy 3, 16 and 17, we learn that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete or perfect, mature, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. That we will not walk a sinless life, all sin and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3. But rather how we can walk a faithful life of devotion unto God. Walking before God is worthy, friends. And for our study today, I want us to just draw a couple of thoughts before us as our time allows. that the Almighty God will help, aid, and perfect when one is obedient unto Him, walking before God. That is our study coming up in a moment. But first, we’re blessed that the International Gospel Hour well goes international. And we’re thankful for our good brother and friend at SpanishBibleSchool.org, Marlon Ratana, for a wonderful website, or a wonderful podcast, rather, called Christianos Fieles. SPEAKER 01 :
Friends, let’s walk before the Almighty God so that we not depart. In 2 Samuel 22 and verse 23, it was David who praised the Lord and said, For all his judgments were before me, and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. Again, words of praise from David unto the Lord as the Lord is before him. specifically the judgments of the Lord that guided and spared him from the hands of his enemies and of Saul from 1 Samuel. Focusing on the word judgments, let’s define and gather some thoughts concerning this word. Of course, it’s a pronouncing judicially an idea of justice. Deciding a case of litigation, a judgment decreed. So we see the word judgment is quite strong. It speaks forward. It can be counted on. It is a judgment from the Almighty, which means it’s accurate. Judgments are clear statements. Judgments are there ready to guide and they cannot be mistaken. I remember a lawyer sharing with me at one time that when a judge makes a judgment and a decision, say for a family, that sadly there is a divorce, and that sometimes the family means well and kind of goes beyond what the judge has decided, it can cause a lot of problems. But if they go back through their lawyers to the judge to get clarity and understanding, it keeps things continually going a little more smoother. You see, judgments, well, you know, that’s a strong word. Pretty strong when it’s on your side. Think about walking in the judgments before us as we walk before the Almighty God. Well, we’re walking in His judgments and statutes now. You know, judgments prosper. We learn that from 1 Kings 2 and verse 3. Judgments are teachable. Ezra 7 and verse 10. And 18 times in Psalm 119, this word is used in parallel with the word of God and the statutes of the Lord. So we understand where God is coming from and how strong those judgments are that walk before us, that guide us, and with clear direction from our Lord, His word is. Friends, may we not depart from them and keep them constantly before us. Our goal in life should be walking before the Almighty, guided in our walk with His judgments, to which we say, Amen and Amen. Second, let’s walk before the Almighty saying, so that He will address our sins. You know, David with his sin, with Bathsheba, and as he stated in 2 Samuel 22, I did not depart from them, but yet we know of his sin with Bathsheba earlier in that book. His praise unto God is how God could forgive, could restore him. You know, in Psalm 51.3, a psalm believed to be written concerning his sin with Bathsheba, he said, For I acknowledge my transgression, and my sin is ever before me. The judgments are before us, and we cannot ignore this text of the sin that is ever before us, but to know how God will address and take care of that sin in our lives. In Psalm 40 and verse 12, For innumerable evils have compassed me about. Mine iniquities have taken hold upon me so that I am not able to look up. They are more than the hairs of mine head, therefore my heart fails me. Oh, friends, walking before the Almighty, He addresses our sin through Jesus Christ. Never, ever forget a couple of things, friends. You know, in 1 Corinthians 10 and verse 12, Wherefore the hymn that thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall. We need to make certain, and when we think we’ve got it all under control on our own, stop, think. We are to walk before the Almighty God. To walk that we will not depart. To have the assurance He will address our sins. You know, an individual who is not a Christian, and when they believe in God and they see the wonderful things God can do, realizing that faith alone does not save a person, I mean, the devils believe, and yet they tremble, James 2 and 19. And one is justified, or we see how one is justified by works and not by faith only. Now, let’s keep in mind, friends, it doesn’t mean that we engage into a work salvation. Works are not what a man does to be saved. Works are what a saved man does, expressing his faith. That’s all of James 2. But when one believes, they move themselves to repentance, as Jesus commented in Luke 13 and verse 3. And what those believed on the day of Pentecost needed to do to change their lives, they needed to repent. How we confess our faith in Christ, commanded by Jesus in Matthew 10, 32 and 33. And yes, friends, to be baptized into Christ for the remission of our sins, Acts 2 and verse 38. And the beautiful verse, He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, Mark 16, 16. You see, the Almighty will address our sin when we walk before Him and follow Him. Friends, maybe you need to address sin in your life. Maybe you need to be revived to walk before the Almighty.
