In this episode, the Kim Monson Show delves into pressing issues affecting our communities, starting with the notion of freedom versus force and challenging inefficiencies in tax legislation. We explore the resignation of Colorado GOP Chair Britta Horne, understanding the intra-party divides that led to her decision. Through expert insights and personal stories, join us as we pay tribute to Medal of Honor recipient Kyle J. White, whose extraordinary acts of bravery exemplify selflessness and heroism in the face of adversity. Additionally, we dissect the impacts of House Bill 26-1222 on small businesses and taxpayers, shedding light on how
SPEAKER 02 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 21 :
An early childhood taxing district? What on earth is that?
SPEAKER 02 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 21 :
I don’t think that we should be passing legislation that is so complicated that people kind of throw up their hands and say, I can’t understand that.
SPEAKER 02 :
Today’s Current Opinions and Ideas.
SPEAKER 21 :
And it’s not fair just because you’re a big business that you get a break on this and the little guy doesn’t.
SPEAKER 02 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 21 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation. And welcome to the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence, take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. Thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. It’s Friday, Producer Joe. Thank goodness it’s Friday. It’s Friday. I THINK I’VE HEARD THAT BEFORE. SEEMS LIKE TIME IS GOING VERY QUICKLY. WHAT IS IT THEY SAY THAT EVERY DAY IS A GIFT? THAT’S WHY IT’S CALLED THE PRESENT. AND CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE. IT’S BEAUTIFUL. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR THREE YEARS ON BRINGING FORTH THE NEWSROOM as well as the Kim Monson community, join us. The first 250 that join us at the Mount Vernon level will be known as founding patrons. And many of you have already joined. And we’re rolling out each little thing day by day. And so join us. We’re going to have in-person town halls and virtual town halls and classes. And we really want to be able to connect and converse and have a community where we can contemplate these important ideas so that we can reclaim this state that we love and reclaim the american idea and reclaim the american middle class and dreams for our children and our grandchildren and our posterity So be sure and check that out. While you’re there, there’s two things. You can hit the Join button at the top, and then also go to the Newsroom tab and sign up for our weekly newsletter. If you’re getting that, you still need to go and sign up for our Daily Digest, which we’re hoping we’re gonna roll that out on Monday. That’ll be Monday through Friday. And we’ll publish that later in the afternoon with important news sources for you. So you can do all that at the website. The text line, let’s get that out there so that you can text me if you have any comments on anything. That’s 720-605-0647. You can email me at kim at kimMonson.com. And I thank all of you who support us. We are an independent voice on an independent station searching for truth and clarity. And as we look at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom, something’s a good idea. You should not have to force people to do it. And on the show, we focus on the issues. We’ll talk about the people pushing those issues, but we stay out of all the personality fighting. And with that, a headline that I wanted to share with you, Colorado GOP Chair Britta Horne says she’ll resign next month, points to the divide within our own party. That’s from the Colorado Springs Gazette. Apparently, she’s going to resign the day after the state assembly. And my comment on it is no comment. There’s that’s it. I have no comment on that. Our word of the day is existential. It’s spelled E-X-I-S-T-E-N-T-I-A-L. And it could be of relating to or dealing with existence based on experience, empirical, or conceived by existentialism and experience. i i chose that word because i’ve heard you hear the word that it’s a an existential threat so i guess that is a threat that is definitely in existence so your challenge is to use an existential in a sentence today Our quote of the day, since it is Friday, we go to the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values. And you can buy that by going to their website. It’s AmericanValueCenter.org. They’re located in Pueblo on the beautiful Riverwalk. And also get this on your bucket list to go down and see the portraits of valor of over 160 Medal of Honor recipients with their quotes. The only other place you could see such a collection is at the Pentagon, and it’s not that easy for us regular people to get into the Pentagon. And so that website is AmericanValueCenter.org. And this is from… Kyle J. White, and this is the citation for his Medal of Honor. And he is from the War on Terror. And he was, let’s see, this was Unit Command was Company C, 2nd Battalion. We’ll go ahead and get into this. Specialist Kyle J. White distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a radio telephone operator with Company C, 2nd Battalion Airborne, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade during combat operations against an armed enemy in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan on November 9, 2007. On that day, Specialist White and his comrades were returning to Bella Outpost from Ashura with Oranis village elders. As the soldiers traversed a narrow path surrounded by mountainous rocky terrain, they were ambushed by enemy forces from elevated positions. Pinned against a steep mountain face, Specialist White and his fellow soldiers were completely exposed to enemy fire. Specialist White returned fire and was briefly knocked unconscious when a rocket-propelled grenade impacted near him. When he regained consciousness, another round impacted near him, embedding small pieces of shrapnel in his face. Shaking off his wounds, Specialist White noticed one of his comrades lying wounded nearby. Without hesitation, Specialist White exposed himself to enemy fire in order to reach the soldier and provide medical aid. After applying a tourniquet, Specialist White moved to an injured Marine similarly providing aid and comfort until the Marines succumbed to his wounds. Specialist White then returned to the soldier and discovered that he had been wounded again. Applying his own belt as an additional tourniquet, Specialist White was able to sim the flow of blood and save the soldier’s life. Noticing that his and the other soldier’s radios were inoperative, Specialist White exposed himself to enemy fire yet again in order to secure a radio from a deceased comrade. He then provided information and updates to friendly forces, allowing precision airstrikes to stifle the enemy’s attack and ultimately permitting medical evacuation aircraft to rescue him, his fellow soldiers, Marines, and Afghan Army soldiers. Specialist Kyle J. White’s extraordinary heroism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, Company C, 2nd Battalion Airborne, 503rd Infantry Regiment, and 173rd Airborne Brigade in the United States Army. So when he did this, he was either 20 or 21. He was born in 1987, and he said this. He said, we stood together to fight the enemy. We stood to fight for what we believe in. We stood to fight for our country and our family. Most importantly, we stood to fight for each other. And that is from Kyle J. White, United States Army Medal of Honor recipient. Our bill of the day is House Bill 26-1222. There was several tax measures that were heard this week down at the state legislature. This particular one is modifying tax expenditures. and concerning the modification of tax expenditures and in connection there with making additions to the definition of federal taxable income for tax years commencing on or after January 1, 2027 and creating the family affordability credit. So what I would say really is happening here is that they’re taking away the benefit of the federal tax credit on your state tax form, and they’re doing it under the guise of trying to help families. And one of the best ways to help everybody is just to lower taxes across the board. So it’s House Bill 26-1222. The sponsors are Representative Lorena Garcia, Representative Karen McCormick, Senator Kathy Kipp. And I said this bill is extremely, or this is what CUT said, the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And be sure and join us at just $25 a year. You can do that by going to coloradotaxpayer.org. And also utilize CUT Engaged. And it’s very easy. Five bills, this week we actually added in Senate Bill 135 yesterday. So make your voice heard on that. That’s the one that under the guise of K through 12 education, it would gut TABOR and take away yours and my TABOR refunds forever. AND THIS IS OUR COMMENT. THE BILL IS EXTREMELY COMPLICATED BUT ITS GOAL IS TO TAKE AWAY MONEY FROM BUSINESSES IN COLORADO AND REDISTRIBUTE IT TO FAMILIES AND CHILDREN. IT REDISTRIBUTES WEALTH AND LEADS TO MORE OF A PROGRESSIVE TAX SYSTEM WHICH IS UNEQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW. Increasing taxes on businesses, which hurts everyone downstream with reduction in investment, wage growth, job creation, as well as driving businesses out of Colorado. So we are a strong no at the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And tomorrow, something very exciting is happening with the USMC Memorial Foundation, and that is the president’s birthday challenge. Paula Sarles is turning 77. She is a Marine veteran. She’s the president of the foundation, and she’s also a Gold Star wife. And the number seven is really important to Paula Sarles. Welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 06 :
well thanks for having me kim and we’re very excited about tomorrow and honoring all the fallen and the people that helped build the memorial um i’ll be telling a lot of the history of how the memorial was built and who was involved and remembering their names um A lot of people don’t know all that, so we thought it’d be fun to share, and then we’re reading the names of the pollen that we can get to, and the names on the bricks. People on your show have been very gracious to donate using the Buy a Brick program, and we want to read all the things that they have on their bricks.
SPEAKER 21 :
That is really exciting. And the weather, I think, is going to be good. You plan on doing this rain or shine, right? Yeah, and we didn’t mention when, but that’s going to be the problem tomorrow. Oh, that is going to be, and that’s kind of exhausting to battle that for seven hours. Tell us about the number seven, why that’s so important, Paula.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, the memorial was built in 77. I joined the Marine Corps in 67. It’s my 77th birthday. It would be, Tony, my 57th anniversary. I’ve been doing veteran advocacy for 27 years, and it’s 17 years since Tony passed. So seven runs deep, and I have to say, through all these years, It’s God’s perfect number, and he’s been gracious and very faithful to me and to the memorial.
SPEAKER 21 :
So we’re requesting that people make a contribution in honor of your birthday challenge with the number seven in it. So it could be $7, it could be $77, $777, or you could add another seven on that as well.
SPEAKER 06 :
We had one guy that donated $1,007 this week. So we’re up to a little over $2,000. And what would really make my day is to have people come out and say something about their hero. We’re going to live stream it on our Facebook and Instagram, God willing. And it’ll be fun. And I have cupcakes for everybody that comes out.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, that is great. And where is the Marine Memorial located?
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Colfax in Golden, Colorado, right across from Home Depot and the Jefferson County Courthouse.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. And people can park across the street, and that happens to just be where the Golden Little Richies is located, which Little Richies is a great sponsor of the show. So people can come out. and support the Marine Memorial, support you. And also then they can pick something up and take that home from Little Ritchie’s right across the street.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s right. It’s a great place and we like Little Ritchie’s a lot.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, so to make that contribution, and I will make mine today, Paula Sarles, go to usmcmemorialfoundation.org, usmcmemorialfoundation.org. And Paula, I did see on the headlines this morning that in this, that, that refueling plane that crashed over in the Middle East that several of the service members did perish in that. So I imagine you’ll be adding their name as well, correct?
SPEAKER 06 :
As soon as we can get them, we will.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, yeah, they may not have released that. But this is really important to remember and honor, and I so appreciate all the great work that you do. So again, that website’s usmcmemorialfoundation.org. Paula, have a great day, and good luck tomorrow. Okay, thank you very much. And these important discussions happen because of our sponsors. It is Friday, and welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Be sure and check out our website. That is KimMonson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. And did want to say thank you to the Harris family for their goal sponsorship of the show because we are an independent voice on an independent station, and that is really important to have indie journalists around here these days. On the line with me is Molly Lamar. She had been a candidate for the Colorado State Board of Education Just a real concern for our children and education and has really been watching what’s happening with the Cherry Creek School District and the toxic environment at the administrative level. And she’s keeping us updated on this because our education is so important. And if it’s not working properly, we need to know about that. Molly Lamar, welcome to the show. Good morning, Kim.
SPEAKER 05 :
Three things that I wanted to talk about this morning with the Cherry Creek School District. Of course, information continues to flood in and I’m so appreciative of the families and the teachers and the staff on the inside that bring information so that we can share it. But this morning’s report is personal for families. This week, we started to see the impact of all of the mismanagement hit our classrooms. as families are going off for a week of spring break, teachers across our district, are being told that they won’t have jobs next year and which is just heartbreaking you know anytime of course this corruption affects classrooms it’s just I don’t really even know what to say about it just especially high for those serving our students that are in special education and gifted programs which honestly is those positions are so hard to fill, but we’re hearing that the department which reported to Tony Poole, who is one of our administrators who’s been placed on leave due to insubordination. I’m still trying to uncover what that means, but it looks like he is millions of dollars over budget And so of course, it will be the students and the teachers who pay for that. And that for me is just heartbreaking.
SPEAKER 21 :
Molly, so you said a number of teachers are being informed that they won’t have jobs next year. And what’s the reason? Are they saying it’s money? Is that what it is? It’s money.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, it’s money. And, you know, we went… We had the school board meeting on Monday night, which anytime you have 22 speakers at a Cherry Creek school board meeting, public school board meeting, that is a sign that things are not going well. Our school board meetings are supposed to be really boring and really quiet. And when you have 22 speakers show up, It’s not good. So we had a lot of families come addressing, you know, one father was addressing the lack of teachers that were provided. We talked about that last week for the hearing impaired students. They went three months without any services. You had parents talking. One of the other issues that we’re facing is that Cherry Creek High School has these very old buildings. We have black mold that children and teachers are being exposed to. Of course, this week, the board let families know that they have now pushed a whole bunch of the projects that were supposed to get done in phase one were about to go into construction. They have pushed those off to phase two because of money, yet we are spending millions of dollars on this new soccer stadium, the women’s soccer stadium in Centennial. We just have, our priorities are so out of whack. And It’s just, it’s almost, to say this isn’t funny, it feels like a soap opera. Every day, there is so much information that comes in. I mean, this has become almost like a full-time job, just managing the information, of course, the feelings of all the people. You know, people are… heavily invested in their schools. This is our children. And the corruption and the mismanagement of funds, taxpayer dollars, it’s crazy. It’s so heartbreaking.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, what this is, is this is the consequences, I would say, of us, and I mean that generally, of us not paying attention to these elections and then not being vigilant as citizens to watch what’s going on. So ultimately, this comes down to who’s been elected onto the Cherry Creek School Board. but the school board hires the superintendent and then the superintendent is supposed to be the person that that runs the show if you will and uh the person that had been running the show had been um there’s is i guess the word isn’t it nepotism where his wife yeah was hired as hr and they’re probably pulling down I mean, I look at different salaries for superintendents and probably at least I’m going to bet a quarter of a million dollars. But the thing about it is, Molly, is we don’t know because a group that is a regular guest on the show has opened the books and they have requested the books from Cherry Creek School District. And they were told that it would cost a lot of money for them to get that. This should be public information. But this superintendent is supposed to make sure that things are going well. And Cherry Creek used to be the apple of Colorado’s eye as far as school districts. And because of this, it sounds like it’s getting run into the ground right now, Molly.
SPEAKER 05 :
Even to just build off that, you know, when you and I had that conversation the first time, of course, you know, I have been doing CORA requests like crazy so that I could continue to get this information. They have now started to try to charge me for any CORA requests that I asked for. They’re now in stall mode. I requested the records where this whole thing started because of Denver 7 and Tony Kovalevsky has been doing an investigation. They’ve now stalled and told me that… So I requested 18 employment contracts because… I wanted to see, so it’s not normal, Kim, to have contracts with the superintendent’s cabinet. It’s normal to have a contract with the superintendent, but not, you know, not with all of these associate superintendents, which under Chris Smith, we have we have a huge administration. And so I requested all of these employment contracts. They’ve now come back and said it will cost over $200 to provide these contracts because they sent me one and the one that they sent is official. I mean, it is null and void because they have former, they have private citizens approving these employment contracts, which is is illegal. You can’t have, they essentially took a stamp and approved Toby Aratola’s contract for a six figure salary with the former board president in 2026. She stepped down in 2025. So that contract is null and void. Well, they realize that were finding all of this information. So now they stalled and won’t provide it unless we pay these huge fees.
SPEAKER 21 :
When was the last time the voters approved a bond or mill levy override for Cherry Creek?
SPEAKER 05 :
$950 million. in 2024. To go back to this Cherry Creek High School building and construction they’ve now said well phase two is now dependent on you passing another bond in 2028. So they’re going to start this construction project and our kids are going to walk around in this Frankenstein style construction zone. And there’s so much corruption and dissatisfaction right now that I’m not sure that we will
SPEAKER 21 :
be able to pass another bond the answer i think should be no on this uh because there’s not transparency there no and because people are hurting with their property taxes and the school district it was the biggest recipient of property taxes so we’ll have to talk more about that molly you said you had three things we’re about out of time did we hit everything no that was
SPEAKER 05 :
I got them all in. It was the contract and unfortunately the teachers losing their jobs. That was, you know, even when we’re talking about this bond to have, we’ve approved $950 million and I realized that bond money doesn’t go to paying teachers. We shouldn’t be, our teachers should not and our students should not be losing truly the most important person in their classroom, which is their teacher due to our irresponsibility and corruption that is existing right now. It’s just, it’s really heartbreaking. So I appreciate you bringing me on again and I’ll continue to keep you updated. But please say a prayer for our teachers and their schools.
SPEAKER 21 :
Most definitely. Molly Lamar, thank you for being vigilant on this. And it’s not just Cherry Creek School District. We need to be vigilant across the board. So thank you for that, and I really appreciate it. We’ll talk with you next week. Thanks, Kim. Bye. My, these are such important discussions. And we’re going to get to talk with Teddy Collins with Spartan Defense in the next hour.

SPEAKER 21 :
It is Friday, and pleased to have on the line with me James Wiley. He is running for Colorado Secretary of State, which is a very important office. And welcome to the show, James.
SPEAKER 18 :
Thanks so much, Kevin. It’s really great to be back.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, good to have you. So give us an update, first of all, on what you’ve been up to. You mentioned last time you were on that you were thinking about filing another lawsuit. Has that happened? Tell me about that.
SPEAKER 18 :
yeah so that’s an interesting story i’ve been cooking that for a while maybe it’s a little bit burnt but i’ve got a lot of progress to share with you uh as i was digging into that the rabbit hole just kept getting deeper and deeper and i found it wasn’t just those three races but tina peters ron hanks and greg lopez in 2022 that were reversed as a result of the unaffiliated voters participating in the republican primaries But if you look at 2024, this happened five times. So it’s an escalating problem. And in 2024, it affected two Democrat races as well, not just the Republican races. And unfortunately, our boy Ron Hanks got hit again in CD3. He should have beat Jeff Hurd, but the unaffiliated voter came out, supported Jeff Hurd, and sent Jeff Hurd to Congress. So we can reverse that trend, but We need to finish drafting this lawsuit. The issue I’ve had is I had to take some of Hillary Clinton’s advice and I had to go learn how to code in order to finish doing all the necessary math behind this problem. And so I’ve… Finished with the majority of that this weekend is going to be the final polishing on my statistical analysis. And we’ll be able to, at that point, file the lawsuit against Jenna Griswold. This will be my sixth lawsuit against Jenna Griswold. This will be a constitutional challenge of Proposition 108, which put in place our semi-open primaries, allowing those unaffiliated voters to raid either the Democratic or Republican primary.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, the Republican, well, there’s been a lawsuit regarding open primaries. And that’s the bottom line on this, right, James, is open primaries where unaffiliateds can vote either in the Republican or the Democrat. I’m curious about the Democrat races. Tell me about that, what you’ve uncovered.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes. So the previous lawsuit was filed by the Colorado GOP and the federal court, but they failed to present any evidence that it actually changed the outcome of the election, which is the standard of harm which the courts require in order to overturn that law. change to our statute, that proposition. So I have the proof now, and it’s an escalating problem. We have more and more unaffiliateds in the state. It’s affecting three primaries in 2022, five primaries in 2024, and the two Democrat primaries, there was one that was a I see Regent Race with Hood and Johnson, and Hood won, but Johnson should have won that race, not by a small margin. It was almost a 20% swing where uh hood was supported by unaffiliated voters and johnson was the favorite of the democratic party and unfortunately he did not have the opportunity to represent the state on the the board of regents for cu and then also if we look at cd4 obviously given the way i’m doing this statistical analysis comparing the of vote percentages in each county to the unaffiliated percentage in each county and weighing it by the vote totals in that county as the statistical method for all the nerds out there listening is a weighted linear regressional analysis and so cd4 has a lot of counties cd3 has a lot of counties uh cd5 it’s only one county it’s kind of hard to to work in that space but cd4 and the democratic side also had this problem and so trish calvarisi was supported by the unaffiliated voter but it was actually mccorkle who would have won that race based on the support from democratic voters in that primary
SPEAKER 21 :
Interesting. Now, you mentioned Prop 108, which was passed, what year was that? Was it 2016?
SPEAKER 18 :
It was passed in 2016, went into effect in the 2018 primary. At the time, there was 34% unaffiliated voters, but that problem has grown. It’s now at 50% unaffiliated voters, and with that larger percentage, the proportion of unaffiliated to affiliated voters is growing. changing significantly to where in the last presidential primary 46 percent of the participants in trump’s primary were unaffiliated voting for nikki haley and significantly diminishing trump’s turnout okay what do you think’s the solution i guess this is your lawsuit so the solution on this james is what The solution is to present these facts to the court, and this is the first time that any court will have seen factual changing the outcome. The GOP presented a lot of information about the high participation of unaffiliated voters in the primary back in 2022, but they failed to demonstrate that it actually changed the outcome. So this is statistical proof that with a high R value on the regression, which shows the significance of the correlation. And we can present this to the court, and the court should accept this as the necessary standard for the burden of proof to overturn that and call it unconstitutional and close the primaries. And it’s not about the opportunity. We all doubt vote. It’s not about any of the burden of that element. It’s simply about our right to assemble. And I actually believe we have more than just a right to assemble because on the other side, we also have a right not to assemble, a right to be unaffiliated. But the founding fathers who put together the Bill of Rights assembled it more as an instruction manual than a protection against government in my mind, an instruction manual for liberation. And we’re in a situation where we need liberation and we need to assemble. We have a duty to assemble. And so this perverse incentive to become unaffiliated, to be able to raid the primaries, That needs to be taken away so that people will be on an even playing field and begin to exercise their duty to assemble.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. Before I ask the next question, you are running for Colorado Secretary of State. How can people get more information about you?
SPEAKER 18 :
You can go to redflameofliberty.com and learn about my platform and my history, the work I’ve been doing with election integrity in Colorado for the last six years. from the Dominion Voting Systems to the Colorado recounts to the Bios password lawsuit in 2024. And I just filed another lawsuit a couple weeks ago, Democrat versus Democrat, helping to create chaos within that space. So, yeah, we’re fighting Jenna Griswold on every front and with every opportunity, and all that information is on my website.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. Now, a candidate can access getting onto the primary ballot really three different ways. One is to go through the caucus assembly process. Another is to get to the ballot via petitions where people sign petitions. Or there’s a hybrid where there has to be a certain percentage hit at assembly and then petitions as well. How are you… working to access the ballot?
SPEAKER 18 :
I’m exclusively going through the assembly process. And I’m actually new to the Republican Party. While I’ve worked with Republicans for years on election integrity, I recently joined the Republican Party for the Secretary of State race. So I feel it’s my duty to earn support of the Republicans. That’s why I’ve been to over a dozen Lincoln Day dinners across the state in the last couple months. And I’m really hoping that I can win the support of delegates at the Assembly, and that’s actually the subject of the Democratic lawsuit. Eileen Laubacher in CD4 did not qualify or does not qualify for participation in the Assembly, and yet the Shad Murim, the chair of the Democratic Party, gave her that access despite her lack of qualification. Well, I do qualify for the Republican Assembly, and I hope the Republicans will vote for me.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. It just came across the wire yesterday that the Colorado State GOP Chair Britta Horn has resigned, and that will be effective after the state assembly. What’s your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER 18 :
I don’t want to point any fingers at Brito or anybody else within the party as bearing the full responsibility for the current condition of the Republican Party. But I think it’s unfortunate that this is the state that we’re in. I think there’s people definitely trying to disrupt. the progress of the Republican Party and prevent success within the state of Colorado. And we need to figure out how we can overcome that and really rally together to defeat the communists at the Capitol who are actively working to take away our rights and destroy the beautiful state of Colorado that we have. It’s important that communists in the state of Colorado feel unwelcome and feel unsafe here. And we can’t do that while the Republican Party is turned on each other instead.
SPEAKER 21 :
That’s a really good point, James, because the Colorado that I love is being destroyed. The beautiful city, Denver, I just used to love to go to Denver. Now I go and there’s trash everywhere, and it’s just a mess. And the reason is because of these socialist, communist policies that are being passed down at the statehouse, but we’re also seeing it all the way to the county and local level as well, James.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, there’s only really one difference between a communist-style government and a cartel-style government. And the difference is the cartel feed their people. So as we get more into the later stages of this communist takeover of our state and unfortunately influences across the country, we’re going to see more and more of this degraded condition of life, people really suffering, and the entire spectrum is going to shift negatively. And so capitalism has been a liberating force for humanity over the last several hundred years, and in America particularly with the strong protection of rights and free market that we have and individualism that we have. And if we lose this experiment, there’s none other that we can turn to.
SPEAKER 21 :
We were made for this particular time, such a time as this. We’re going to continue the discussion with James Wiley. He’s a candidate for Colorado Secretary of State on the Republican side of the aisle. And these important discussions happen because of our sponsors. And Lauren Levy, mortgage specialist, will be one of our featured guests in hour number two.
SPEAKER 19 :
Would you like to help your kids with a down payment for their first time home? Are there delayed maintenance home repairs that you ignored until retirement? Does inflation, property taxes, and increasing costs of living keep you up at night? If you are 62 or older, a reverse mortgage might help. SPEAKER 08 :
April 26th, 1777. Colonel, the British are raiding Danbury and burning the town. I’ll go tell them. 16-year-old Sybil Ludington mounted her horse and rode 40 miles through night and pouring rain. That’s twice the distance of Paul Revere to sound the alarm.
SPEAKER 01 :
Quickly, assemble at my father’s house.

Again, that is Jody Henze with Mint Financial Strategies, 303-285-3080. And we’re talking with James Wiley. He is a candidate for Colorado Secretary of State, running as a Republican. And that website, James, again, what is that?
SPEAKER 18 :
Redflameofliberty.com.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. You have been involved in the election integrity arena for a number of years. You’ve filed a number of lawsuits. And, James, if we don’t have free, fair, honest, and transparent elections, we don’t have a country. And Tina Peters, as many people know, she was the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder. And she actually was convicted of attempting to influence a public servant. And she’s serving nine years in a maximum security prison. she didn’t even have a traffic ticket before this and which means she’s in prison with hardened criminals and the judge would not let her post bond for her appeal And it seems like disparate justice because a former Democrat senator was recently convicted of attempting to influence a public servant. And she received just community service and a $3,000 fine. And Jared Polis, Governor Polis, said that initially he said the justice did not seem equal, but then kind of indicated he might be offering clemency to Tina Peters. Then he got all kinds of pressure from both Democrats and Republicans to keep Tina in prison. So then he says, well… the Sonia what has Lewis that was convicted former senators that she was had remorse Tina Peters didn’t well then Tina Peters apparently said she was remorseful and now he’s saying that he’s going to wait till after the decision on her appeal meanwhile CBS News has reported that Democrat Colorado lawmakers, all of them down at the Senate and House, are urging Jared Polis not to grant Tita Peters clemency. So that’s setting that up for you, James. What’s your thought on all that?
SPEAKER 18 :
I was watching very closely when Polis first posted that tweet and I did a video on it immediately and started an entire campaign of new posts on Facebook and on X asking him to go ahead and grant that clemency. He had said that He was extending the deadline to grant the clemency, and it was going to be until April 3rd. And I’m like, oh, my gosh, don’t wait. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Do it today. There’s a great spiritual principle that never leave for tomorrow that which could be done today. And unfortunately, he’s pushing it off further and further. And it’s great that he’s talking about it, but there’s no reason to delay because these other forces, these other influences are going to continue today. to sow doubt in his mind and continue to dissuade him from doing what’s right. And he knows what’s right. The disparity between the probation sentence and the nine-year sentence for the same crime is absolutely absurd to me. And Polis knows that. He might be the enemy of freedom for Colorado, but at the same time, he’s not necessarily the most evil of all the communists in this state. He seems to pursue the libertarian ideals, even if he doesn’t embody them as well as he claims to. He does have a rational mind to contemplate these things and is on the right path in that pursuit of clemency. Now, of course, it should be a pardon. I believe it should be a pardon. And I got some flack on Facebook for not using the word pardon. But I’m trying to get a result that is achievable. And if Polis is talking about clemency, we should encourage him. We should drive him to grant that clemency as soon as possible. as far as the democratic lawmakers well they’re trying to defend one of their own and and if if they were each the judge she would have gotten off free. This other senator who was charged and sentenced with probation would have gotten off free if any one of her peers in the Democratic Party and the legislature were the judge. There would have been no consequences for her willful violation. And Tina Peters did what she did in pursuit of saving our country, a completely different situation from this Democratic senator. So I think it’s terrible what’s happening here. And I hope Polis will resist the influences trying to stop him from granting that pardon. And even if it’s unpopular among the Democrats, he needs to recognize that this is a very popular thing in the country at large and in the state at large. And if he wants to continue to advance his political career, it is in his best interest to do that, not to mention to be able to get the Medicaid funds that are being withheld, to be able to access or be able to restore space command back to Colorado and the atmosphere and aerospace research facility in Boulder. If he wants the federal administration to begin to return funds blessings to Colorado, as it were. He needs to start playing ball and being willing to negotiate with the Trump administration. And this is the one thing that is being demanded by the Trump administration, and he should capitulate on it.
SPEAKER 21 :
You allude to something that is very important, and that is the motive for each of these women. Tina Peters did not take her action for any personal benefit. She took that action because she felt it was her responsibility to preserve election records before Jenna Griswold’s and her office’s trusted bill. On the other hand, Sonia Lucas Lewis took her action because she was accused of something, and I’m not exactly sure on the details, but forgery was committed, and it was all to kind of save her own personal neck. And I think it’s important that people understand the distinction. So if that’s the case, it seems like they should trade places on where they are because of just from a motivation standpoint. But your thoughts on that, James?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, Sonya’s situation is kind of interesting. Essentially what she did was she had some of her office staffers at the Capitol go to her house and do landscaping for her, clean up her yard, and use state funds in order to do that. Now, if you want to use your own campaign funds on some gravel for your yard or landscaping, I guess there could be a justification for that if you’re also doing a fundraising event at your house. I might not do that, but there might be a way to stretch that and put that in court as a defense. But what she did with state funds, using her aides to do her landscaping for her, is absurd. The aides complained about that because they wanted a political career, not a landscaping career. And as a ginger, getting sunburned out there would just not be a thrilling experience. So they filed the ethical complaint against her, and she forged… these references. She created these statements and pretended that other people were writing them attesting to her ethical strength and moral superiority. And, of course, she was found out and convicted of that and sentenced to nothing. So I don’t know if they should change places. I don’t think either one should necessarily have nine years. True. Good point. I was being facetious. At least Tina Peter should have the probation as well.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah. Thank you, James, for that. Actually, I agree. I don’t think that Laquez Lewis should be in the slammer for nine years either. So thank you for pushing me to make that clarification, James. James, we’ve got a minute left. What’s your final thought you’d like to leave with listeners?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, this race for Secretary of State seems to be a unique opportunity for us. There’s a lot of contention in the U.S. Senate race. There’s a lot of contention in the governor race. There’s no contention in the in the Attorney General or the Treasury race. There’s only one candidate in each of those. But the Secretary of State race, while there’s multiple candidates, I’m definitely the frontrunner in that. And we have an opportunity through this race to try to unite the Republican Party long before the primaries even take place and build a grassroots infrastructure across the state and really push for the momentum we need to take back our elections by electing me to office in the Secretary of State’s office. And I’m going to do good work for all of you and continue the fight that I’ve been fighting these last six years, whether elected or not. But I appreciate the opportunity to be elected. So thank you, Kim, for having me on. And thank you to all your listeners for being a part of this fight.
SPEAKER 21 :
And that website is redflameofliberty.com, right? Correct. Okay. James, thanks so much.
SPEAKER 18 :
Thank you.
SPEAKER 21 :
And our quote for the end of the show is from Patrick Henry’s speech in Virginia Convention, March of 1775. He said, the active, and the brave. So today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. Stay tuned for hour number two.
SPEAKER 15 :
The views and opinions expressed on KLZ 560 are those of the speaker, commentators, hosts, their guests, and callers. They are not necessarily the views and opinions of Crawford Broadcasting or KLZ management, employees, associates, or advertisers. KLZ 560 is a Crawford Broadcasting God and country station.
Welcome to our number two of the Kim Monson Show, and thank you so much for listening. You eat your treasure, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence, take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. Thank you to the team, that’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. It is Friday, Producer Joe. Happy Friday, Kim. And you know what’s right around the corner is Easter. And we always prerecord for the week of Easter week. So the next two weeks, we’re going to be working diligently on getting all that done. But what is nice is that we don’t have to get up at, oh, dark 30 every morning during that Easter week.
SPEAKER 15 :
Just a little bit past ODART 30.
SPEAKER 21 :
Just a little bit past. And so really do appreciate everybody that makes all this happen. Check out the website. That is Kim Monson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. And it is beautiful. We rolled out our new Kim Monson community and our new newsroom a couple of weeks ago and really updated everything on the website. So join us, become a member of the community. There’s three different levels. The Montpelier is at $50 a year. The Monticello is at $100 a year. And then the Mount Vernon is $200 a year. And you get progressive different things with each of those memberships, the first 250. that join at the Mount Vernon level, and that’s 250 in honor of our birthday, America’s birthday, will be known as founding patrons of the Kim Monson community. So be sure and check that out. You can email me. at Kim at KimMonson.com. And the text line is 720-605-0647. As you know, we search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. Something’s a good idea. You should not have to force people to do it. And we focus on the issues and we’ll talk about the people PUSHING THOSE ISSUES, BUT WE’RE STAYING OUT OF ALL THE PERSONALITY FIGHTING. SO WITH THAT, I WILL JUST WANTED TO HIT THIS HEADLINE THAT COLORADO STATE GOP CHAIR BRITTA HORN HAS RESIGNED, AND THAT IS EFFECTIVE AFTER THE STATE ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS IN MID-APRIL. MY COMMENT ON IT IS NO COMMENT. I HAVE NO COMMENT ON THAT. AND THAT LAUGH THAT YOU HEARD IS KAREN LEVINE. SHE IS IN STUDIO, RE-MAX AWARD-WINNING REALTOR. GREAT TO HAVE YOU HERE.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s always a pleasure to be here, especially on Friday the 13th. On Friday the 13th. One of my favorite days.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, and I know that we don’t have video on this, but you and I sometimes, well, we sometimes buy our clothes at the same spot, and we’ve got on the same pants today. We do. Well, because we have good taste. Because we have good taste. Did you notice that, Lorne Levy?
SPEAKER 13 :
No.
SPEAKER 21 :
And that voice is Lord Levy for everything mortgages. It’s always great to have you here.
SPEAKER 13 :
Great to be back. And I do not have the same pants on.
SPEAKER 21 :
No, you don’t have the same pants on. But let me get into our word of the day. It is existential. And that is spelled E-X-I-S-T-E-N-T-I-A-L. And it could be of relating to or dealing with existence. Number two, based on experience, empirical. Or number three, of or as conceived by existentialism. And when we hear, for example, an existential threat, that means it’s a threat that is in existence, obviously. So your challenge is to use existential in a sentence today. Our quote of the day is from the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values, which is located in Pueblo. Be sure and check out their website. And on Monday, Medal of Honor a recipient and co-founder drew dix will be doing a webinar for he’ll be in tombstone arizona with students but doing a webinar um and as well and so i’d encourage you to encourage your children or grandchildren to participate in that and you can register for that by going to americanvaluecenter.org that’s americanvaluecenter.org and that starts at 3 25 mountain time And so this is from the Medal of Honor quote book. Kyle J. White, United States Army Medal of Honor recipient. He was born in 1987. I shared his citation in our number one. And this was actions he took during the war on terror. And this was in Afghanistan. But he said this, we stood together to fight the enemy. We stood to fight for what we believe in. We stood to fight for our country and our family. Most importantly, we stood to fight for each other. And that, again, is Kyle J. White. And these people from the beginning of our country that have put their life on the line and lost many lost their lives is why we’ve got to continue to engage in this battle of ideas and Let’s see, let’s get over here to the bill of the day. It’s House Bill 26-1222, Modify Tax Expenditures. And the description is concerning the modification of tax expenditures and in connection there with making additions to the definition of federal taxable income for tax years commencing on or after January 1 and creating the family affordability credit. Basically, what is happening here is the Colorado State Legislature is taking away the benefit from the federal tax cuts because you’re going to have to add that back in. And there was, I think, three different bills that were undercutting the federal tax cuts. credits for individuals. When they talk about affordability, but then they increase taxes, those two things don’t exist in the same spot. But anyway, the representatives on this are Representative Lorena Garcia, Representative Karen McCormick, and Senator Kathy Kipp. CUT’s position, the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, and you can get all kinds of information at our website and join us at coloradotaxpayer.org. As we said this, this bill is extremely complicated, but its goal is to take away money from businesses in Colorado and redistribute it to families and children. It redistributes wealth and leads to more of a progressive tax system, which is unequal protection under the law. Increasing taxes on businesses hurts everyone downstream with a reduction in investment, wage growth, job creation, as well as driving businesses out of Colorado. And that is why who we elect is so important. And one of our great sponsors, Teddy Collins with Spartan Defense, which is a great firearm store in Colorado Springs, is also running for a state Senate. Teddy Collins, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, Kim, thanks for having me on this morning.
SPEAKER 21 :
Good to have you. I know you’re a little busy. Last week was caucus. And so bring us up to speed with what’s happening regarding your campaign.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so last week was caucus. I represent eight counties. So I had eight caucuses in a week, which was fun. So I’ve been all over the state. You know, I represent Southern Douglas County, rural Jefferson, Lake Park, Chafee, Custer, Fremont, and Teller County. So it’s a big district. So we’ve been doing that. And then we have county assemblies coming up this week. And then the actual Senate district assembly will be on April 4th.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. And how can people get more information about your campaign, Teddy?
SPEAKER 07 :
They can go to collinsforcolorado.com, C-O-L-L-I-N-S for Colorado, spelled out, dot com, and find out more there, donate, sign up to volunteer, get involved, all kinds of ways. Or they can follow me on Facebook.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. So, Teddy, the legislature is in full swing right now. As of right now, 521 bills or resolutions have been passed. PROPOSED CUT COLORADO UNION OF TAXPAYERS HAS TAKEN POSITIONS ON 107 OF THOSE ALREADY WHICH TEDDY IT’S MONUMENTAL WORK THAT THESE VOLUNTEERS ARE DOING OVER AT CUT AND LET ME JUST SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM THAT THESE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS STEVE DORMAN GREG GOLIANSKI RUSS HOSS BILL HAMMEL ROB KNUTH JOHN NELSON WENDY WARNER MARTY NEILSON RAMY JOHNSON MARY JANSON DAVE EVANS Corey Onozorg, Paula Beard, and Ray Beard. And this is monumental work that these volunteers are doing. So what are you, I know you’re watching legislation as well right now. I didn’t see a lot happening regarding firearms this last week. What’s your update on that?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, there was a few bills that have been laid over on firearms or delayed. We don’t know if they’re going to pop back up in the lightning round or not towards the end of the session. But, you know, they are under the quota for the year, which is a good thing, I would say, as far as how many bills they’ve passed. But there’s, you know, we’re still on the lookout and we’re still being vigilant.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, I testified yesterday via Zoom regarding this Senate Bill 135, which the title is K-12 funding. So it’s under the guise of for the children, but it actually guts Tabor, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights. And I initially said this bill is deceptive and dishonest. On those merits right there, Teddy, that bill should not move forward. But what it would do is refer to the BALLOT IN NOVEMBER A QUESTION TO THE VOTERS ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO ULTIMATELY GUT TABER BUT THAT IS A VERY A VERY DECEPTIVE BILL AND THAT IT’S JUST WRONG IT’S IT’S IF YOU CAN’T TRUST WHAT PEOPLE SAY THEN THE ANSWER ON IT JUST RIGHT OFF THE BAT I THINK SHOULD BE NO TEDDY AGREED RIGHT OFF THE BAT AND IF I WAS IN THE SENATE IT WOULD BE NO IF THE NAME DOESN’T EVEN MATCH UP WITH WHAT THE BILL IS ATTEMPTS TO DO OR DOES AND THAT’S A THAT’S A NO-GO FROM THE START That is most definitely the case. So what’s your final thought as we’re moving into the assembly processes here? I know it’s going to be very busy for you and the family here for the next, you know, actually until, well, until we get to primaries and, of course, to November as well. So what’s your final thought?
SPEAKER 07 :
Just people getting involved. It’s good to see. I will say it’s definitely uplifting to see so many people that have gotten involved in the process this year. We’ve had some, at least in my districts, we’ve had some record turnout as far as people wanting to be delegates to get involved in the process, and I think that’s going to be good leading into November with that type of engagement.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, and again, your website?
SPEAKER 07 :
CollinsforColorado.com.
SPEAKER 21 :
And then your day job at SpartanDefense.com, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, ma’am. That’s correct.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. Teddy, thanks so much. We’ll talk next week. Have a great day.

SPEAKER 13 :
Great to be here.
SPEAKER 21 :
And this other part of the team here is Karen Levine for Everything Residential Real Estate. Great to have you here, Karen, as well. It’s always lovely to be here. So, Lauren, I wanted to ask you about the jobs report, but a lot’s going on in the world. How is all of this affecting mortgage and interest rates?
SPEAKER 13 :
It is causing them to go higher right now. When you and I talk on Wednesday mornings all the time, we talk about the 10-year treasury and the focus on that. And I’m sure sometimes there’s some question as to why we focus on that so much. But that is driven by inflation and risks of inflation and things like that. And that was… about 3.93 percent maybe just two weeks ago maybe a little bit less and as of today it’s 425. so that’s quite a move in just a short period of time it’s all driven by oil and what we’re seeing at the gas pumps and things and but when that moves higher mortgage rates compete with that technically and i’d be glad to explain it another time it’s a long explanation but in essence that’s what we watch for mortgage rates when that moves higher rates move higher okay
SPEAKER 21 :
If somebody, does this create, well, I guess over here, Karen, when this happens, if somebody is looking to buy a home, does this create opportunity for them with kind of the unrest that’s going on? Does it create opportunity in maybe the negotiations at all?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, it just… as our conversations have consistently been, it creates an environment of less affordability. And so if rates, when we look at rates getting more favorable, the activity typically increases, which then has the potential of being a win-win for both buyer and seller. And when rates move up there’s more pressure on pricing both because buyers have less affordability and there’s now more pressure on the seller to sell at a more discounted price. So the environment has been challenging for sellers from the standpoint that there are more buyers or there are more homes on the market than we’ve seen in a decade and yet buyers continue to not make decisions. So I have a home in Golden that has had very, very good showing activity and overall the feedback has been positive but no one will write an offer. So they’re either waiting for interest rates to improve or the seller to become more aggressive in their pricing.
SPEAKER 13 :
You know, we talk a lot, Kim, you and I, especially just on our Wednesday morning calls, and I think I say it all the time, The housing market is a market, right? Forget that it’s housing. It’s just a market. The stock market is a market. And markets hate uncertainty. They like certainty. So we had really, really low rates years ago when people were getting mortgages in the twos and threes. and they rose to 6%, 7% really quickly, and the housing market basically froze, right? Karen will tell you there was a period of time when nothing was happening, and then people got used to it. The 6% interest rate became the norm. People settled in and got used to it, and the market recovered and became normalized. And now we have more people with mortgage rates above six in the country than we do below three because things have morphed and normalized. It’s the same thing. Right now, people just don’t know what to do. This has been a really quick shock, this oil thing and this gas price thing. And people, it’s costing money. And on a national basis, we’re lucky here, I guess, that we don’t really have a lot of homes that have home heating oil. Those trucks that deliver, when I grew up in the Northeast, the big oil trucks come with their thing and fill up the tank in the garage because that’s expensive. Yeah, the Northeast gets pummeled by these prices for home heating oil, not just gas pump prices. And so it’s a real thing, and it causes uncertainty in the market. So people just say, you know what, I’m just going to wait.
SPEAKER 21 :
Years ago, I was in the investment business, and what I learned is typically when there’s uncertainty, when it’s scary, there can be real opportunities.
SPEAKER 13 :
There are for people that have money. That is true. So if the stock market drops and you’re in the stock market, all you have is panic, right? Because you’re watching your 401k go down or you’re watching your IRA or you’re watching your stock portfolio go down. But if you have cash, you’re thinking, when’s my time to pounce, right? There’s always opportunity we talk about, but you have to have the wherewithal to take advantage of it.
SPEAKER 21 :
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Lauren, we’re going to have Phil Kirpin on the show on Monday. He’s with American Commitment, I think it is. He wants to talk about Trump talking about the credit card market. And I’m not exactly sure what he wants to do. Does he want to cap interest rates or what?
SPEAKER 13 :
That’s what they’re talking about, capping interest rates at 10%. On credit cards, which at its face sounds great, right? You have to dig deeper on everything. And I’m not saying for or against. Because when you’re the consumer and you’re paying 26% on your credit cards and you’re carrying a debt load, 10% brings the cost way, way down. The question is what does it do when they stop making that money off the people that are paying it? They have to compensate for that loss of income. Businesses never just say, okay, I’ll just make less. So what do they have to do? They either have to raise annual fees or they have to stop giving you so many miles or points when you charge. They have to take back something that cost them money to offset. Most of these companies are publicly traded. They can’t just go to Wall Street and say, well, I know our growth was 4% last year. This year it’s going to be negative 2%. What do you guys think? Because the stock price will tank.
SPEAKER 21 :
And then also what will happen is the availability, I think, of credit. I know that people are getting squeezed and people are using credit cards for expenses. So like you say, oh, 10% sounds great, but what may happen is that credit could disappear.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yep, you could see people that have a credit card with a $20,000 limit get it cut to $8,000 because the banks don’t want to be so exposed. And they also could just say, you know what, you now need a 740 credit score to qualify for a credit card with us because we’re not going to make money off the people that carry the debt and carry all that balances. And that tends to sometimes be who has the lower credit scores. And if they decide that that segment of the population is not worth it anymore, they may just make it harder to get the cards.
SPEAKER 21 :
And the other thing, as you were saying this, is the credit card processing fees that the merchant pays, that many times they’re passing that on to the consumer.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’re seeing that more and more.
SPEAKER 21 :
They could increase that as well. Yep. I think personally, I think Trump should stay out of this.
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, it’s a free market, right? That’s what you talk about, a free market. That’s why I talk to you so much about the fact that mortgage rates are in the sixes, but if you have a ton of debt on credit cards… And I understand that it’s a cycle, right? If you have a ton of debt on credit cards and you refinance it into your mortgage… What’s going to stop you from running it right back up on your credit cards? Because it’s not always abuse. It’s not always people just buying big screen TVs around the Super Bowl. Sometimes it’s just to get by day to day. They have to use their cards. So I totally understand that. But that’s why we talk about if you’ve got credit cards in the 20s percent that you’re paying. Why wouldn’t you put that into a 6.5% mortgage and bring the overall payment way down in your life?
SPEAKER 21 :
And then really work on discipline in your life as well.
SPEAKER 13 :
If you can, yeah.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, and Karen, your thoughts on all this?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, there’s a lot of thoughts. One thing that Lauren said with regards to certainty is I believe… mid-January to probably end of February there was certainty and during that period of time we saw more homes go under contract. So we have, pendings are up. So he’s absolutely correct when there is certainty. I did have a client this week ask me how is the war affecting housing and I actually had no answer because that hasn’t been the conversation around the coffee pot, even though we don’t do that anymore because most of us aren’t in the offices. But with that said, I didn’t have an answer. And their feeling was that because the stock market is not performing well, people are taking cash, their cash and now potentially investing in real estate. So again, it’s that cycle. I think what causes me to pause is that what Lauren said is we should operate in a free market. And when the government steps out to protect a segment of the market there is harm done to another segment of the market and with that the responsibility doesn’t fall on those who are being irresponsible it falls on those of us who are already responsible
SPEAKER 21 :

Is there any of your properties you’d like to mention right now? You mentioned the one in Golden.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I do. I have a lovely, beautiful new listing in Fort Collins. And it is on 6.37 acres. It’s close to 5,000 square feet finished. It’s a two-story with a walkout basement. It also has a barn for your equine friends. And it’s fully irrigated, both the yard and the pasture. It’s priced at $2 million. And it’s just stunning. Awesome. Yes. So call me if you’re interested in checking it out. Okay. And what’s that number? 303-877-7516.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, so next subject. Karen, you know that I am struggling with all of these apartment buildings. Yes. And many of them are very ugly. I think they look like Soviet housing. And you and I, over the years, we’ve had this narrative, housing, affordable housing. What I realize is that government policy has been incentivizing these apartment buildings and disincentivizing, making it more difficult for single-family homes. And single-family homes are the way people have created wealth. So instead of government getting involved in this whole market, Why don’t they get out of the way so that people can make their own choices? If somebody wants to live by a train and live in an apartment, they should be able to, but they shouldn’t receive all kinds of incentives to do so.
SPEAKER 04 :
I would agree. And again, it goes back to Lauren’s comment about capitalism and the free market. And so when government gets in to incentivize, you disrupt the free market. And then again, those who are paying their fair share end up paying above their fair share for the benefit of those who don’t pay their fair share.
SPEAKER 21 :
and we need to get this turned around we have all these government programs and this makes me think i had a conversation recently with somebody regarding illegal immigration and this person said well i i tend to be more on the liberal side of politics and i’m not sure i i like what has been happening with immigration ice, really. And I said, I understand what you’re saying. However, if somebody has come here illegally and they wanna hurt us, they need to go. And if somebody has come here and they’re a criminal in their country of origin or a criminal here, they need to go. And if they’ve come here to live off of the American taxpayer, they need to go. And if they’ve come here, even though it may be through a refugee or asylee resettlement program, and they’re defrauding us, they need to go. And what I found, Karen, is almost everybody agrees on that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, well, I would hope that we would, because if you’ve done something illegal, you should not benefit from the benefits of freedom, right?
SPEAKER 21 :
Right, and if you’ve come here and you’re living off of the American taxpayer, because Lauren, I really feel that the American middle class is under attack, home ownership, high taxes, high fees, rules, regulations. And our American middle class is really getting squeezed. And we’ve got to get back to, as you said, free markets, free and fair markets, and help people reclaim this great American middle class.
SPEAKER 13 :
I agree with you. I mean, I remember when we were going through that whole Thomas Cranawitter, the Federalist Papers thing, you know, the laws were created to make an orderly society, right? That’s the role of laws. It’s not to govern every little step you take throughout the day, which it seems like is happening with our state legislator. They’re trying to pass so many bills, you… You have to cross over one of them every minute of every day almost if they had their way. It’s more just to make society orderly. So if you have people that are here breaking laws, they need to go because they’re causing disorder. But there’s too many people, honestly, that think the role of government is to take care of everything.
SPEAKER 21 :
And there’s no way that can happen. Ultimately, it gets to tyranny.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, and when that happens, we have no freedom anymore. We don’t have freedom to make the decisions and choices that built America.
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, and the government doesn’t work. Like make money, they have to get their money from the people, right? So every time they do something, anything that costs money, It has to come from somewhere.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, and I think most things they do. Cost money. Spends our money.
SPEAKER 13 :
Right. So anything they propose to do that costs money has to come from somewhere.
SPEAKER 21 :
Mm-hmm. Yesterday on the Senate Bill 135, which is titled K-12 Education, it’s actually to gut TABOR, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights. And TABOR was passed by the people of Colorado in 1992 as an amendment to the Constitution that basically says three things. It says, hey, PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties, if you want to raise our taxes, you have to ask us and we’ll vote on it. If you want to incur debt that we have to pay, you have to ask us and we vote on it. And if you PBIs have collected more revenue about a very generous formula of population plus inflation growth each year, If you wanna keep that extra money, you have to ask us. But they’ve been very deceptive in how they ask and what they do. Many times it may be embedded in a bond request. The first time I saw it was with South Suburban Parks and Recreation. and they were asking money for things people like, parks, blah, blah, blah. But then I saw this title, Roman numeral 10, and that is referring to Tabor. And basically what it was saying is, and if we collect more revenue above this, we get to keep it. And people didn’t realize that was there. So that’s the first time I really understood what they were saying when they were detaboring. Well, this particular piece of legislation ultimately What they’re saying is that they will use this additional revenue up to 2% for 10 years for K-12 education. So it implies a sunset. But if you look at the fine print, it says after 10 years, we can keep all the money and spend it however we want to. What do you think of that, Warren?
SPEAKER 13 :
Sounds normal, unfortunately. Unfortunately, it sounds normal.
SPEAKER 04 :
But it’s deceptive.
SPEAKER 13 :
Of course.
SPEAKER 04 :
but it for some reason we have become a people that think it feels good well whatever how you know the first the first eight points sound lovely so we stop reading like you said it was point number 10 um and i think yeah that’s what has spiraled us into some of this world of
SPEAKER 21 :
And that’s why I started doing the voter’s guide, is to really delve into these questions and really explain what’s going on. And I think that when people understand this, because I’m sure it will get referred to the ballot in November. So that’s what the deal is, is the legislature will refer this question to the ballot in November. Then you’re going to see all kinds of money coming into this. probably big time from teachers’ unions to try to encourage people to vote for it. But it’s deceptive. You know what?
SPEAKER 13 :
And more and more people, every year that goes by, people get busier, right? It’s harder to pay your bills. We’re working longer. We’re doing less with our families. It’s just harder. And people are busy and guaranteed when this hits the ballot, it’ll say without raising taxes. And most people just walk in and go, oh, question C, without raising taxes. Sounds good. Check. Because they don’t read it. And that’s why it’s written that way. It’s on purpose.
SPEAKER 21 :
It is. And bingo, that’s what they’re saying, without raising taxes. But in essence, if they’re keeping money they’re supposed to be returning to us, they are actually increasing taxes. So it’s dishonest on that, but bingo, it’s already in there.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, it won’t say, can we cut your refund? And then people will read the rest.
SPEAKER 21 :
You know what we should do? For the voter’s guide, we should probably put this into layman’s terms like that. Cut your refund.
SPEAKER 13 :
Are you willing to give up your refund? Read along. Yes, read along.
SPEAKER 21 :
I had been in a conversation when one of these questions had come up and somebody really was virtually signaling me and they said, I don’t mind giving up my refund for whatever it was. Kind of implying that I was very greedy, that I wanted to keep my refund. And I thought, well, the free market answer is, is instead of raising these taxes or whatever, why don’t you just go ahead and send that extra check to the state and I’ll keep mine. What do you think about that, Karen?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes, whatever, yes. What she said on that. Exactly, exactly. Can we pivot back to Lauren’s conversation about the oil truck showing up at the house? So I am in the process of putting, I believe, a home under contract at a new home community up in Thornton. And these homes are 100% electric. And I’m trying to sort out in my head space Good, bad, indifferent, but is it in fact meeting a space in the marketplace? And if it is, buyers will choose that they would like a 100% electric home. And I think that they are over these last couple of weeks because this builder’s put several, if not more than I think anticipated homes under contract.
SPEAKER 21 :
people may not have thought about what those energy costs might be as this legislature and this governor continues to try to shut down the opportunity for people to make a choice regarding using natural gas to heat their homes. And so there will be a sticker shock, I think, at some point in time.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, and that is my fear, and that’s… I have brought it to the attention of my client just to say, I want you to be aware of this. And then I brought it up with a group of women I have coffee with on occasion. And I said, it’s unsettling to me if that’s the only source of energy from the standpoint of balance. like, well, if I have natural gas and something happens with the electricity, I have a little bit of backup. Or if something happens to my natural gas, I have a little bit of backup with my electricity. And it was interesting, the pushback I got with that type of thinking. And then somebody said at coffee, well, they’ll just get a generator. I said, well, if you don’t have any gas, it can’t run the generator. And then that propelled us to the House bill I brought to your attention, which is House Bill 2311, maybe 23, but I’ll look.
SPEAKER 21 :
And maybe it Williams, maybe if he’s listening, he can text me what that bill number is.
SPEAKER 04 :
But it is at some point alleviating the opportunity to utilize propane in our state. So these are concerning situations to me.
SPEAKER 21 :
It is very concerning. And the ultimate underlying thing here is taking away choice and force and control. And doesn’t that raise price? It does. I think so. Absolutely. We’ll continue the discussion. Text line is 720-605-0647. SPEAKER 21 :
Welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Check out our website. That is Kim Monson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. In studio is Lorne Levy for Everything Mortgages.
SPEAKER 13 :
What’s that phone number, Lorne? 303-880-8881.
SPEAKER 21 :
And Karen Levine for Everything Residential Real Estate. What’s that number? 303-877-7516 okay lots of things here first of all i i knew i knew somebody would text me on this when i said went through my a litany of of different people that have to go and they said kim if somebody has come here illegally they have to go and Yes, they did break the law to come here. But I think if we focus on these others first, that seems to, I think, help the narrative with all those people that are trying to stand up for criminals that we’re trying to deport from our country. And so I understand what you’re saying, but I said, maybe do this in progression. And that seems to be a point where we can agree. Next thing here, it says, my whole family My whole family is fourth generation in Colorado. My sister bought a home a number of years ago. After getting the bills, she and her husband had it converted to gas for heating. Electricity is very expensive. And hopefully we can get a change here in Colorado where we have the freedom to have oil and gas produced since the legislature went against the vote of the people. That was, now I can’t remember what that… proposition was that was within the last eight years or so and so the people voted let me think well the people basically voted in favor of the hydrocarbons industry and then shortly after polis was inaugurated the legislature and POLA’s actually put in more onerous regulations on the oil and gas industry. So all that money that was spent by the oil and gas industry on that campaign, ultimately, they could have just burned that money and kept people warm. Okay, so… So, Lauren, you… you have the ability to get things down to really simple for all of us and that is is you said during break wonder what the incentives were for this developer to do this all electric community yeah i mean i don’t think a builder is just sitting there saying most businesses don’t you know they don’t just sit there going hmm you know they’re home builders they build homes and they
SPEAKER 13 :
typically would just build them like normal so they had to have someone had to say we’ll charge you less for this or less for that or waive permitting fees or something most likely if you’ll do this yeah and then you’ll build all electric homes then we will do this and then under that the auspice of we can bring a more affordable single family home to the marketplace
SPEAKER 04 :
Of course, that’s what they always say. And these are, I will say, these are, in our marketplace, these are affordable homes.
SPEAKER 13 :
And we’ll just have to wait and see, because I see this every time we’re here. Are there unintended consequences?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 13 :
Which we never find out until after the fact. Like, are these people, a year from now, Karen’s clients, going to start getting $750 Xcel Energy bills? on the monthly?
SPEAKER 21 :
Because a policy of coercion and control that’s coming out of the legislature, the governor, but then also in the executive branch, all of the bureaucratic agencies, he appoints the people to head these agencies up and they could actually put in rules and regulations. They’re unaccountable to the people, they’re unelected, this is not how it’s supposed to be, that totally affect our lives. And to your point, I’m just connecting the dot. If it’s more affordable, there’s probably some incentives there. It would be great to learn what those might be. I don’t know how hard that is to find out. I don’t know. That’s going to be a new thing for you and I.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, and I think, I mean, in most cases would have happened at a county or municipal level to create, yeah, to create whatever those incentives were or are, if there are some, which I think Lauren’s question is valid. I made the comment again at my coffee conversation There are several communities throughout the Metro Denver area that were built 100% electric back in the 70s because natural gas wasn’t available or the natural gas pipe hadn’t been laid into those communities yet. And so builders made the decision to build electric baseboard homes. And then 10 years later, those homeowners had to sell their homes at a significant price reduction to compete in the marketplace. And some of those homeowners then, as somebody just said here, converted them to natural gas. So, again, the unintended consequence I have concern about.
SPEAKER 13 :
That’s what I was going to say. She beat me to it. I was going to say affordability is… lovely today, and Karen’s helping these people buy today, she may have to help them sell in 10 years, in which case we don’t know.
SPEAKER 03 :
What will that look like?
SPEAKER 13 :
What will that look like now trying to sell an all-electric home if you’re, and you have to disclose, or they might ask, you don’t have to disclose, what are the electric bills here? It would be a fair question. If I’m approaching Karen to buy that house, it’s all electric, what are the electric bills? And if she has to say, well… Mm-hmm. They’re more than normal, and that could really hurt their ability to sell or the price they sell at.
SPEAKER 21 :
Right. The other question, I wonder if somebody decided that they wanted to convert from electric to, there’s probably not the infrastructure.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, there won’t be. Yeah, to keep the costs down, they wouldn’t have done the development work to bring in natural gas.
SPEAKER 21 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 04 :
So the other piece was, oh, it was a really good comment.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, well, we’ve got a text here. And this is coming in. It says, Karen, do you feel that you’re able to change how the people in your coffee group think about what’s happening with energy legislation because it’s really difficult to understand how horrible this is going to impact everyone. Are you able to change hearts and minds? I know you have on some issues.
SPEAKER 04 :
It is a difficult task. I think the beginning to answer that text question, it’s to start the conversation, which is what the Kim Monson Show provides for all of you listeners is… some conversation starting points to bring it to people’s attention. So I just made the comment, how do you guys feel about the thought of a 100% electric home when it’s not sitting well with me? How does it feel to you? And the conversation went in a lot of different directions, as did the conversation about the proposed legalization of prostitution. Same group of people. Same dynamics of opinions. And we talked about the fact that it has been tabled at the state. Postponed indefinitely. Yes, postponed indefinitely.
SPEAKER 21 :
Which means next year.
SPEAKER 04 :
Next year. It will come back. But we started the conversation at my church. Our lead pastor brought it to our attention.
