Mike Triem talks with Dr. Richard Robinson, host of Holy Ground and senior pastor of Northside Baptist Church, about the impact of radio ministry and the blessing of reaching listeners on Sunday mornings as they prepare for worship. Dr. Robinson reflects on Holy Ground’s practical, Bible-centered teaching style, the encouragement of connecting with listeners who may be homebound, between churches, or unable to attend in person, and the lasting power of God’s Word to continue ministering through the radio program.
The interview also highlights the legacy of faith and ministry in Dr. Robinson’s family, including his father’s influence on his
SPEAKER 01 :
It’s Mike Triem with 670 KLTT, and we’re joined today by Dr. Richard Robinson, the voice and host of Holy Ground and senior pastor at Northside Baptist Church. Pastor Robinson, thank you for joining us.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, it’s so good to be back with you, Mike. I always enjoy chatting with you and the listening family of KLTT.
SPEAKER 01 :
We love these because people that don’t necessarily get to hear Holy Ground, just because they might not listen at that time or think to tune in the radio, this gives them a chance to hear your voice and find out more.
SPEAKER 02 :
Amen. I’m really happy to be in our present time slot. And every now and then we might get rebroadcast in a free spot. And it’s such a blessing because… I get to have people going to church. Many of them are going to church. They even have told me that before on their way to church and they get to tune in and hear me. And so I just appreciate people like that, too, that are just trying to get a spiritual mindset even before they get to church. And so that is, of course, I’m referring to the nine o’clock time spot. And it’s just a a great time to catch a lot of people as they are getting ready to go to church and probably riding in their car or just tuning in at home. But it is a wonderful time. And being Sunday, it’s the time we definitely focus our thoughts on God and worship. And it’s just good to kind of be in that time frame for that very reason.
SPEAKER 01 :
You mentioned exactly what I was going to ask about. That’s the 9 a.m., just having that opportunity in the morning. And then we also give listeners an opportunity a couple other times on the weekend. If they go to the website 670KLTT.com, then they can hear those. I believe you and Dr. Charles Stanley have a lot in common. I don’t know if you get that from other people. I think anyone that’s not heard Holy Ground, if they hear it, they’ll say, oh my goodness, what an amazing teacher. And it reminds a lot of us a little bit of Dr. Stanley.
SPEAKER 02 :
I enjoy being in that company, that’s for sure. I listen to him too, not every single time, but I always enjoy listening. I tell you, he is the guy who had almost the ideal conversational style. He almost comes across like he’s sitting in your living room and chatting with you. And he had so much just good life application stuff. I’ve learned that from him, certainly, and I try to keep my messages as practical as I can, touching on subjects where the rubber meets the road and just giving people an opportunity to investigate how they’re doing in their spiritual walk with Christ. And being a Baptist church, as most in our denomination, we use the King James, and a lot of people are familiar with that, comfortable with that, the classic translation. And so I get comments on that every now and then, and that is a blessing to people as well. And just the feeling that I have a second listening family, and it’s just amazing to me that when they do write in or leave a message, it’s just really comforting to me to know that this is just such a viable way to help people that are right now perhaps in between churches, or sick, elderly, people that just can’t get to church on a regular basis. But what a need this meets, and it allows us to have our sermon catalog not sit in a room somewhere collecting dust.
SPEAKER 01 :
Exactly. Exactly. God’s Word is still active, right?
SPEAKER 02 :
That’s right. It’s never going to expire if you’re out of date, and it gives it a second life on the air, and that’s a real blessing.
SPEAKER 01 :
We’re speaking with Dr. Richard Robinson. The program’s Holy Ground. It’s heard 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. We do a repeat on Sundays at 5 p.m. as well. So it gives you that going to church in the morning. If you’re not going to a church, then it also gives a reminder, get over to Northland and Northside Baptist Church. You don’t have to just listen to Holy Ground. You can also be a part of the church family. And he’s got just a wonderful family feeling, just that, you know, Dr. Robinson, you’re Your dad, we’ve talked about this, your dad preached, and now you preach, and there’s a real depth that comes from that because you come from a teaching family.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yes, my father, and thank the Lord he’s still alive, he’s 91 now, and he’s retired in Copper’s Cove, Texas, and he really is the one, he led me to Christ, he helped me uh get started as you know growing up in a christian home in a pastor’s house my father plugged me into ministry right away and i had a lot of early experiences and really gave me a chance to have a leg up in in spiritual ministry and teaching and soul winning and different things like that that really helped me a lot in fact uh one interesting thing we are right now remodeling our original auditorium where Northside was born. And so it started humbly out as a farm barn, had one dairy cow and chickens in it, and that eventually turned into Northside’s first auditorium. And we have used that building so much over the years. And it was also most recently used for our daycare, which we don’t have that now. And so we are right now in the midst of totally remodeling that on the inside. We’re naming it Founders Hall in honor of my dad. And so we’re hoping to get all of the renovations done on that probably in the next three or four weeks. And it’ll be a multipurpose room. And who knows, maybe I can get my dad back here and have him see it in person.
SPEAKER 01 :
Dedicated. Yeah, that’d be great.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 01 :
Fun fact, I spent a lot of years just in your neighborhood, a little bit further east. And for people that haven’t been through that area in the 90s, I’m dating myself, but oh, well, too bad. And even the 80s, for that matter. I was there in the 80s, too. Oh, my goodness. Wow. Ancient history. Lots of farms in that area. Now you would drive down 120th Avenue or even 104th and think, what in the world? There was never a farm here. Well, there was all over the place. Carl’s Dairy Farm and all those. So I won’t reminisce too much, but Dr. Robinson, tell us about your wife, Donna, and her books. There’s a book signing coming up. We want to make sure we make a big deal about that because it’s a big deal. It’s fun.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yes, we are very excited about this. She is going to be signing copies of all of her eight books and So she’s got that mini released. And on April the 19th, Sunday the 19th of April, we are going to have her signing copies for those who would like to purchase the book, any of her books. We’re going to have a book signing in our Tree of Life bookstore at our church. And so the bookstore will be open briefly before the service starts at 1030. But she won’t be in there until after the morning service. So if anybody out there that would like to come and just worship with us that day and be ready to get in line, that would be great. After the service is over about 1130, we will transition to the bookstore. She’ll be there sitting at a table and signing copies and kind of a meet and greet for readers. And so we’re very excited about her latest series called Bluestone Ridge. So it’s called Hearts of Bluestone Ridge. And that is going to probably have, when it’s all said and done, probably five, maybe six different books in that series. And so those have been very, very well received. We’ve gotten good feedback on that. And she writes… Christian romance, and as she calls it, sweet Christian romance. And what that means is that her characters, of course, are Christians. And there’s just a good, strong moral code. These are people that are led to the Lord. And she’s very big about this. She wants the Lord to be honored and glorified in her stories. And so the Lord is seen to be working in the background of all her stories. and how he providentially brings people together. I love it. And so it’s just really nice. It’s a big market for this kind of thing. And, of course, you know, even there are production companies that are turning them into movies, and people really love wholesome material like that. And so Donna has definitely got her foot in the door, and hopefully she’ll have many, many more books coming in years to come. And so being an indie author, we’re living in the golden age of publishing and she’s trying to take advantage of that. And God has really given her some good feedback, good readership. And I pray that, you know, if anybody out there loves that kind of thing, it’d be really nice to meet her and just get the books that are available and kind of support our local authors.
SPEAKER 01 :
That’s the thing. We need to do that. And this is a book series that is very similar to what I’ve seen a couple of national authors put out, only it’s better because it’s tailored to Christians in the storylines. They’re very well done. I mean, Dr. Robinson, if someone’s outside of the area, by the way, where would they go to see the books? What’s the online portal?
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay, anybody can go to see the books. Go to DonnaRobinsonBooks.com, and there you can see all her present books that she has released. Just follow the menu, and you can, of course, click on the Buy button. It’ll take you right to the page to purchase the book. And DonnaRobinsonBooks.com is going to give a little bit of background about her as well, so you can read up on that, about her story and how she got started, and then the catalog of her present books.
SPEAKER 01 :
So fun. And I know that some of the movie folks have been, you know, checking it out. So that gives people, I think that gives our listeners a sense of the quality of these books. They’re very high quality. It’s a very high quality series. And Donna is an excellent author. So buy a couple of books, show up at the book signing, have Donna sign them, or they could buy the books at the book signing, I’m guessing. That true? Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
That’s right. That’s exactly right. And supporting a local author.
SPEAKER 01 :
So important. You know, it’s part of our family because it’s Donna. But still, these are books that you’ll be proud to own. And I would guess, Dr. Robinson, from age group, probably teen, preteen, all the way through to adults, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
That’s exactly right. Yeah, this really fits well beginning with the teen years as, of course, a lot of these couples are themselves young and not teenagers, but still very relatable to the teens. They can understand it and kind of imagine it. in a sense, how God could work in their life as they begin dating and thinking about future mates. It’s an exciting way to imagine that God can direct me and guide me providentially, just like those stories unfold.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yes, so good. And Dr. Robinson, just a reminder to our listeners too, our kids and teens all the way through young adults, they get too much of this from television and the wrong sources. This is the right source. So it’s really, you know, get your child, your teen, this series, and then they’re reading something that’s really targeted towards God’s Word, not towards, you know, stuff. And we’ll just, everybody knows. We’ll leave it at that. Yeah. It’s DonnaRobinsonBooks.com, DonnaRobinsonBooks.com. And then Dr. Richard Robinson, Holy Ground. And Dr. Robinson, as we close, where do people go to find out more about Holy Ground?
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay, they just need to go to HolyGroundRadio.com. And they can actually listen to several weeks of past programs. We have uploaded them to our website for them to stream and listen to again. And, of course, at our website, there are always people that want to build a home library of resources, and so we allow them to purchase past programs, and they can get actually digital sets, or they can get them in CD sets, whichever they prefer, so they can make their choice. Our charges are very reasonable, just enough to cover the production costs and mailing and things like that. So all they’ve got to do is go to holygroundradio.com and check out what’s presently available and stream if they want to as well and read up a little bit about also the history of Holy Ground, myself, and David Armstrong.
SPEAKER 01 :
Very good. Well, Dr. Robinson, so good to have the time with you. Thank you so much. Again, Dr. Richard Robinson, Holy Ground. Check out on 670KLTT.com if you have any questions. Thank you, Dr. Richard.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, thank you so much. God bless you.
