In this episode of Victorious Faith, Cherri Campbell continues her “Adventures with Jesus” series, sharing powerful lessons from her time on the mission field across the world.
Drawing from a real-life experience in a spiritually difficult environment, Cherri recounts a moment when she was ready to leave—but clearly heard the Holy Spirit say, “I called you here.” That moment became a defining test of obedience. Stay and trust God, or leave and follow her own instincts.
From that experience, she breaks down an important distinction many believers struggle with: the difference between the curse (which Jesus already bore) and the kinds
SPEAKER 01 :
Good morning. Welcome to Victorious Faith. I am Cherri Campbell. This week I’m sharing with you some of the adventures that I’ve had on the mission field and the lessons I’ve learned and the faithfulness and blessing of God that I’ve seen. And so I’m calling this Adventures with Jesus. And I just wanted to name for you some of the countries that I’ve been in. I’ve been in Vanuatu, which during World War II was called New Hebrides. And the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Fiji, Micronesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Nepal, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria. And these are just some of the places that God has taken me. And in this, I’ve traveled by jumbo jet, propeller plane, both medium and very small plane, and ship and by ferry and small boat and train, jeepney and auto rickshaws, pickup trucks, motorcycles, motor tricycles and pedaling tricycles, and by foot as well, going into the places that God has called me and sent me to. And God has been so, so faithful in all these times and in all these experiences. And I was sharing with you this week the things that God has taught me, especially I mentioned already the grace of God and learning how to receive the grace of God through faith and through worship. willingness and humility and obedience to his will. And then I ended yesterday by sharing a testimony about receiving the joy of the Lord. And I want to talk about that today, the joy of the Lord. And I was in a place where it was set up for me. One connection led me to another connection to another. And And so I went to a place by a referral of someone. And when I was there, I was staying with this minister. And this minister was actually not very godly, did not operate much in the spirit of the Lord. But I saw there was the spirit of control, the spirit of manipulation. And not really having the Holy Spirit working through them that I saw. And not only that, but when I stayed there, there was a great oppressive presence of demonic spirits. And after I got there, I had decided I was going to leave. I was going to leave and I was not going to stick around. I didn’t want to be there. And so I was thinking of going to town and getting on the next airplane and flying out and leaving. I even told the minister, I want to go to town. And that was because I was intending to go to the airport and get on the next flight and leave. But while I was in my room and thinking so strongly about getting ready to leave, the Holy Spirit spoke in my heart. And the Holy Spirit said to me, Cherri, I called you here. I called you here. And so I immediately knew I had a decision to make. I knew that I had to decide to obey God and stay or disobey God by leaving. And I want to mention again, the types of tests that the Lord allows in our life. And even it is his will for us to go there. Now, I do believe that I made a great spiritual impact there. But I also believe that God sent me there as a test for me. And so what kind of tests does the Lord allow in our lives? And I shared yesterday the testing of the Lord is. is not the curse that Jesus bore on the cross for us. And it is not sin. And it is not the result of sin. The curse, the curse brings sickness and disease. The curse brings lack and poverty. Lack and poverty is death. As it says in Romans, that sin came and sin brought death. Sin came and sin brought death. That is in Romans 5.12. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, And death through sin. And in this way, death came to all men because all sinned. Death is the curse. The curse is death. Sickness is the curse of death working in your body in low power. It’s like turning the power way down. It’s like an electrical bolt of lightning can kill you. However, you can get little shock treatments that don’t necessarily kill you. But if they keep turning up that power and keep applying it, it can kill you slowly. And so that’s what sickness is. Sickness is death working in a low power in your body cell by cell by cell until if it goes unstopped. It will kill your body. And the same is in finances. The curse of death working in your finances brings lack and poverty. Lack and poverty are death in the financial realm. Because understand it like this. Anything living grows. Anything dying decreases. You see that? Anything living grows and anything dying decreases. So Jesus bore the curse of sin and death and all the manifestations of the curse, which includes sickness and disease. Jesus bore our sins on the cross. It says in Matthew 8 and also in Isaiah 53 that he himself carried our sicknesses and bore our diseases. That is the curse of sin and death. Galatians 3, 13. He himself became a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree so that the blessing may come upon us. And so he carried the curse. Also, poverty. He became poor. 2 Corinthians 8, 9. He became poor so that through him we might be made rich. You see, he bore the curse of death in finances. So anything that Jesus carried and died for… and was our substitute. Jesus was our substitute on the cross and in his death and burial and in his going into hell and in his resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God. He was our substitute so that he carried all of the curse for us. Anything that is part of the curse, we need to resist. Because Jesus carried it for us. However, there is part of his sufferings that we should share. As Paul writes, if we share in his suffering, we will also share in his glory. What suffering is that? The Lord showed it to me like this. It’s the difference between the sufferings in his life. And the sufferings in his death, the sufferings in his death, he died for us. He was our substitute so that we don’t die. He carried our sin, our sickness, our poverty so that we don’t have to. But the sufferings of Jesus in his life. are sufferings that we also do share. And I shared yesterday in Matthew 4 and in Luke 4, Jesus was tempted by the devil and he overcame the temptation by saying, it is written, it is written, it is written. And it says in Hebrews chapter 2, Hebrews chapter 2 says that Jesus suffered being tempted. Well, it wasn’t just experiencing the temptation. It was overcoming the temptation, overcoming the temptation. So you also must overcome all temptation. You do it the same way Jesus did. Jesus used the word of God and said, it is written. You also use the word of God and say, it is written. That’s the way you overcome temptation. That is part of your suffering. And if you share in that, overcoming the sin, overcoming the temptation, you also will share in his glory. Well, another area of Jesus’ suffering was in persecution. He suffered persecution from the Jews. And a third area of his suffering was in the Garden of Gethsemane, where he died to his self-will. And he knew he was going to face the cross. He knew he was going to have to die. He knew his life would be poured out as a sacrifice. And he said, Father, if it is possible, take this cup from me yet. not my will, but your will. And so submitting your will to God’s will is part of your suffering. And so I shared how God will lead us sometimes into situations and places that are hard. They can be hard on our body physically, or they could also be hard spiritually or even relationally, mentally, emotionally. And one of the most common areas of this testing is is in being with difficult people, people that are hard to be with. It can be in your work situation. Many times it’s in the workplace and you have people that you work with that are just acting like the devil. People who are hard to get along with. Well, you might want to get up and run. Say, I don’t have to put up with this. I’m leaving. It might be your boss. And you say, well, I quit. I quit. I’m leaving. Well, wait a minute. Check. Did God lead you there? Did God want you there? If God wants you there, he knows it’s hard. He knows those people are treating you bad. But there is a test in this for you to overcome. And you won’t be there forever. But you will be there until you overcome and pass the test. So the quicker you pass the test, then sometimes it’s the quicker you get out of there by God moving you, not by you quitting and running away. but by God bringing you a promotion either in that place and a lot of times to a different place. Let God promote you. Don’t run away, but stay and endure and walk in love and learn to keep your joy. Now, we’re almost out of time for today.
