This is an amazing group of people. And our word of the day is emolument. And it is E-M-O-L-U-M-E-N-T. And it is a noun, and it is number one, payment for an office or employment compensation. Number two, the profit arising from office employment or labor gain compensation advantage, prerequisites, fees, or salary. And let’s see, the last one is payment for an office of employment compensation for a job, which is usually monetary. This definition is from the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th edition. And… Certainly, we can talk about emoluments for PBIs, and I think that we all agree that there should be some payment for those in the legislature. But what we’re seeing is I think a lot of emoluments are actually maybe somewhat hidden, and that is not okay. And so your challenge is to use the word emolument in a sentence today. Our quote of the day is from William D. Swenson, United States Army Medal of Honor. This is from the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan. September 8th, 2009 was the Medal of Honor action date. It was in Kunar province in Afghanistan. And he was born in, I think, 1978. And Captain William, this is the… And I take these quotes from the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values. The center is located in Pueblo on the Riverwalk. And for many Republicans that will be down in Pueblo for the state assembly, it would be a great thing for you to drop by the Center for American Values and visit them. And also over at the convention center, there are… sculptures of the four Medal of Honor recipients that grew up in Pueblo. And of course, one of those is Drew Dix, who is a co-founder of the Center for American Values. So this is the citation for Captain Swenson. It says, Captain William D. Swenson distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving during combat operations against an armed enemy in Kunar Province, Afghanistan on September 8, 2009. On that morning, more than 60 well-armed, well-positioned enemy fighters ambushed Captain Swenson’s combat team as it moved on foot into the village of Kanjal for a meeting with village elders. As the enemy unleashed a barrage of rocket-propelled missiles, grenade, mortar, and machine gun fire, Captain Swinson immediately returned fire and coordinated and directed the response of his Afghan border police while simultaneously calling in suppressive artillery fire and aviation support. After the enemy effectively flanked coalition forces, Captain Swinson repeatedly called for smoke to cover the withdrawal of the forward elements. Surrounded on three sides by enemy forces inflicting effective and accurate fire, Captain Swinson coordinated air assets, indirect fire support, and medical evacuation helicopter support to allow for the evacuation of the wounded. Captain Swinson ignored enemy radio transmissions demanding surrender and maneuvered uncovered to render medical aid to a wounded fellow soldier. Captain Swinson stopped administering aid long enough to throw a grenade at approaching enemy forces before assisting with moving the soldier for air evacuation. With complete disregard for his own safety, Captain Swenson unhesitatingly led a team in an unarmored vehicle into the kill zone, exposing himself to enemy fire on at least two occasions to recover the wounded and search for four missing comrades. After using aviation support to mark locations of fallen and wounded comrades, it became clear the ground recovery of the fallen was required due to heavy enemy fire on helicopter landing zones. Captain Swenson’s team returned to the kill zone another time in a Humvee. Captain Swenson voluntarily exited the vehicle, exposing himself to enemy fire to locate and recover three fallen Marines and one fallen Navy corpsman. His exceptional leadership and stout resistance against the enemy during six hours of continuous fighting rallied his teammates and effectively disrupted the enemy’s assault. Captain William D. Swinson’s extraordinary heroism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, Task Force Phoenix, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, and the United States Army. And this is what he said. Okay, where did I… Hold on just a second. Here we go. He said, always rise to the occasion. And that is William D. Swinson, United States Army Medal of Honor recipient. And we can take great… Great inspiration from these Medal of Honor quotes and these Medal of Honor recipients and their stories. And what that means is each and every day we must rise to the occasion. Colorado is, from a political standpoint, in a very, very dark place. But there are so many people that are stepping forward. Congratulations to Karen Gorday, Mary Jansen, Ramey Johnson, the whole team out in Lakewood on their victory regarding the special election on the upzoning ordinances. And we’ll talk with Helen Raleigh about that in just a little bit because she has written a great piece that was in The Federalist regarding all of this upzoning. And so congratulations. People are stepping forward and things are really happening. Our bill of the day is House Bill 26-1360 is the Affordable Housing Financing Fund. And this one is truly highway robbery. And the crime sponsors on this are Democrat Representative Kyle Brown, Republican Representative Rick Taggart, Senator Jeff Bridges, a Democrat, and Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer, who is a Republican. And it’s concerning the Affordable Housing Financing Fund. Again, this is House Bill 26-1360. And cut the Colorado Union of Taxpayers comment on this is this bill directs the state treasurer to transfer $130 million from the state affordable housing fund to the general fund. Cut votes no on this bill. Voters approved this fund in November of 2022 to fund affordable housing from income taxes. Now, all of us that are sending in our taxes this next week realize that our income taxes are being redirected. And this is just really dishonest. And that says this. We see now that only one tenth of one percent of this money goes to affordable housing. DOLA, the Department of Local Affairs, and HCPF, the Department of Healthcare and Financing, receive approximately 40% of this tax money. And ODIT, which is the Office of Economic Development, receives approximately 60%. So that’s the money that they use to give special treatment to different businesses. It says, this bill just moves money around to meet the one-day balanced budget requirement, but rest assured this transfer will not reduce funds available for administrative expenses, salaries, or for state employees. And again, this has bipartisan support on this, and this is a big no on House Bill 26-1360, $130 million moving that around from a fund. And so when politicians are coming and asking, PBIs, when they’re coming and asking for more of our tax money, At election season, it is time to say no. And that, again, is House Bill 261360. And how Bobby Jones, at the age of just before he turned 40, During World War II, he was activated in the Army, and he went on to Normandy Beach on D-Day plus one, so on June 7, 1944, and saw combat action for sure for two days there. SPEAKER 07 :
teachers are happy and feel valued. And Cherry Creek is the district of excellence once again, but gosh, that’s just not the case. We had a school board, the school board had a study session meeting on Wednesday. And instead of a school board filled with adults focused on educating kids, what we saw honestly was a low budget soap opera. It’s It’s like days of our lives in the boardroom. It’s filled with bad actors, petty drama, and ridiculous plots. I mean, the amount of infighting that is going on. They have a mediator. They’ve flown in a former superintendent from Nebraska to act as a trainer. You know, superintendents have experience with governance over schools, but not Um, they, they shouldn’t be, uh, counseling board members on, um, you know, the superintendents are supposed to work for the board, not the other way around. So, um, let’s, you know, let’s just even start there. I, I think that’s, that’s a bad idea. Um, but I, we, we just don’t have a school board that has that’s focused on the charge of educating kids. And this toxic work environment that exists is affected. You know, it’s a trickle down effect. When your teachers don’t feel valued, they don’t feel safe, they have to go on TV and be in hoodies and masks and hide themselves. You know you have a real problem. The district is refusing month after month to take a hard look in the mirror and make the real changes that are so desperately needed. And meanwhile, we have teachers losing their jobs. The budget is out of control. So, you know, we’ve got cuts that are happening in classrooms. Classrooms don’t have the resources they need. We’re losing special education teachers. I mean, it’s just one thing after another. And I still believe that our schools, the individual buildings, those are filled with wonderful people who are trying very hard to do their jobs, but it’s up at the top that we have a real issue.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and when is the next – so it starts really with We the People, though, with elections for school board members. Because school board members are supposed to be basically the liaison, the representative of We the People. And we – I think we – The charge on that is we want to educate our children so that they can read and write and do arithmetic and know history. And we’re not educating. This really is frustrating when I hear the term we want to educate for the workforce. No, we don’t. We want each of our children to have the tools so that they can go after their hopes and dreams. And so we elect the school board members who then they hire the superintendent. And the superintendent is the one who’s supposed to do the day to day regarding making sure that those goals are met. And when is the next election for the school board, Molly?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, we have a while, but, you know, we’re already starting to work on it. But it is, it’s 2027. School board elections often happen on off years. In my opinion, that is designed by the teacher’s union so that, you know, off years have very low performance. voter participation and so the teachers union can up their purchase up their participation with their members and um you know i mean i I think these board members that Cherry Creek School District currently has, they aren’t independent. They are a circle of friends who are endorsed and who’ve endorsed and protected each other while our district has fallen into federal violation, mismanagement of funds. And honestly, we have talked about this. Every week, the superintendent sends home this email that is a And honestly, it’s just a bunch of kumbaya and look at all the things we’re doing instead of we’re taking a hard look at this. We’re doing an independent audit. We’re going to clean this up. We don’t need more placating hyperbole about how much they care and how wonderful this is. We need them to do their jobs. and get very serious about returning Cherry Creek to excellence, establishing the legacy and the foundation that this district was built upon.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and Molly, when you mentioned that, it is really frustrating. And I’ve seen this again across the board. We see counties, for example, Douglas County is sending out a Kumbaya magazine, as well as my municipality does that as well. And it’s expensive. It’s well done. It’s done with tax dollars. And it really is… It is really propaganda. People get it in the mailbox or parents will get this letter coming back from school. Again, all of this is done with tax dollars. And many times they try to appear as informational. We’re telling you what’s going on. But it is really ultimately it works out to election propaganda is what it what it does.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s a PR strategy. um you know look at all the wonderful things we’re doing um here’s the flyer promoting um and and not taking a hard look at the fact that children can’t read write and do math and um we at the study session on wednesday one of the board members angela garland who also happens to be running for arapahoe county commissioner um while she’s serving said uh many people many parents who call in to the district with complaints are liars i can you imagine as a parent if you you know of course we have concerns right now we have a spotlight on our district that is highlighting all kinds of issues and a toxic work environment unhappy teachers and and one of the board members calls calls parents liars. There just needs to be a clean sweep, honestly.
SPEAKER 03 :
There really does. And when we get to, in politics, to name-calling, What that means is, is that they cannot stand on the issues. And that’s why what you’re doing is so important, Molly. What we’re doing at the show is focusing on the issues. But it takes a lot of mental work and discernment and discipline to really understand the issues. And so when a elected representative refers to the electorate as liars, that is a big red flag. Now, it is important if there is a mistruth to bring that up and say, this issue, this is not correct or whatever. But to just do the blanket name calling, that is so eighth grade girls. And I didn’t really enjoy eighth grade that much, Molly Lamar.
SPEAKER 07 :
Exactly. Exactly. that’s the part about it that you know the whole days of our lives reference um we don’t we don’t need name calling we we don’t need to um board members or parents throwing insults at one another we the adults really need to take charge grab this situation by the reins And so I’ll give a plug for the school board meeting, the public school board meeting that’s on Monday. That’s at 7 p.m. It would be great for parents to show up and, you know, they can give their public comments. They’ll have three minutes unless. more than 20 parents show up and then they’ll have two. But I just want to encourage people to continue to write the school board, continue to show up and make your voices heard. And then I think the best thing that parents can do is stay involved in your individual building. Ensure that all of this nonsense is going on up at the top But really, at the school level, if parents are involved and they’re ensuring that their teachers feel appreciated and valued, we really can keep the focus on the children within those buildings.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, that’s great advice, Molly Lamar. And I appreciate you with these regular updates on what is occurring. And I don’t think Cherry Creek is unique to this because what we have seen is across the board, these superintendents are making king salaries. They’re being paid very well. And I think I saw something that you said that the superintendent and then his wife, she’s also being paid handsomely. I guess they’re on leave or something.
SPEAKER 07 :
He resigned, but she’s on leave, which is, you know, that’s just a taxpayer paid vacation. I have no idea with all of the fraud and mismanagement of funds and toxic behavior that she herself exhibited. Why is this woman still on our taxpayer dime?
SPEAKER 03 :
And he’s got a great pension as well. And they’ve traveled internationally on, at least allegedly, they have traveled internationally on the taxpayer dime as well.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, we have those receipts. It’s still working. I so appreciate you continuing to expose this. There’s nothing more important than the education of our children. They really do deserve to know how to read, write, and do math to help them be functioning, productive, contributing citizens to society. And it’s just a shame that Cherry Creek has fallen to this. I have every ounce of hope and faith that we can give back. It’s truly, it’s why I do this work, but we do have what looks like a bumpy road ahead of us still. So just want to encourage people to stay involved.

Politicians think more zoning laws will fix housing prices, but the data says otherwise. Helen Raleigh, welcome to the show. Whoops. Helen, do we have you? Okay, Joe, I think that maybe we need to try this again here. So we’ll get Helen on the line here in just a moment. But she’s written this piece, and really one of the catalysts was this whole thing that happened in Lakewood regarding… This upzoning. And she said, should land use decisions rest with the families who live in these neighborhoods or with politicians who are pursuing an ideological agenda from above? And of course, this is not only happening at in Lakewood, but also the House Bill 261001 down at the statehouse, which has been signed into law. basically puts the state in charge of our local zoning. And so it’s going to be interesting to see how this all works out. Helen Raleigh, do we have you now? Yes, I’m here. Okay, great. I gave you a great introduction and wanted to talk about this piece that you recently published at The Federalist regarding these zoning laws. So where should we start with this, Helen?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, how about we start from the top? Since your earlier segment talked about how bad policies flow from top down, and then it takes people’s grassroots effort to push it back. So the U.S. Senate passed the 21st Century Road to Housing Act. The act supposedly aimed to make housing more affordable, but if anyone can take the time and read through the act, we’ll find out it contains many old bad ideas have been pushed by the Democrats. And one of these old bad ideas is the upper zoning issue, which the Democrats have been proposing and actually have implemented in several states and cities. For example, in California, Minnesota, basically once you have this mixed housing district and push the previously single family zone only district now to have more mixed density housing and up density higher density housing and that idea now has been flowing through colorado

Well, and they do this, Helen, under the guise of affordable housing. And so what has happened over the years, and I remember when I was on city council, these different municipalities will put up boundaries where they cannot, for example, Boulder is an excellent example where you can’t build outside of these particular boundaries. So the first thing it does is it’s reducing supply. Well, if you reduce supply- that can increase the cost. But then you bring in through, I have this in air quotes, economic development, and that is government picking winners and losers. And so economic development, trying to encourage different businesses to come in, so increasing demand for housing. And then, of course, all of the illegal immigration as well. So you decrease supply, you increase demand, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the prices are going to go up, Helen.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right, but there are other ways, Kim, to increase the supply of housing, to make a house more affordable, but a mixed zoning district is not the way to go. First of all, let’s analyze what caused housing to become so expensive. You gave a great example. That’s called an urban restriction, like what a boulder does, basically restricts housing from being built. That’s one way to cut back the supply, increase the price. Another contributing factor is the labor shortage. Last year, I actually interviewed the president, Ed Brady, of Home Builders Association. He basically said that our country is like, we’re short of about 8 million housing supply. And the reason we’re short, he said one of the main contributing factors is we don’t have enough workers, skilled workers to build houses. And he said if we can have enough workers, employees, workers being employed to build in construction, then that can solve the housing affordability problem. And the third factor is over-regulation. In Colorado, again, the Home Builders Association basically estimates all this green policy, driven by green energy policies, basically inflates the cost of building houses. So, again, there are many other ways to solve housing affordability problems, but Mixed housing zoning is not a way to go.
SPEAKER 03 :
And I really think that ultimately, and of course, building all of these rental units. I heard a report or read a report recently that we have, I think like a 16 year high or it’s been a number of years. since we’ve had this much vacancy in apartment buildings and they continue to build them. And as I’m learning more and more about it is it’s because there is government incentives to do so. We need to get these government incentives out of the market and let it become a, a real, a real economic market. And, but I think the goal is, is to push people into these high density apartment buildings near transit areas, and get people out of their cars. That’s not the proper role of government to try to determine how we live our lives, Helen Raleigh.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, you’re right. And also, I think the government, the bureaucrats misread what motivated people to buy housing, especially single-family housing. Not all homeownership is equal. Only apartment is that it’s different from owning a single family housing. I think the key issue here is, you know, single family housing means something very special for homeowners. You know, you don’t have to share the walls with your next door neighbors. And you have this very, you have the privacy, you have this, you know, extra shelter space. And this is special. And that’s why Americans are waiting to pay premium for single family housing. And also, when people like you and I, you know, average Americans, when we sign a 30-year mortgage by a single-family home, we basically made a commitment, not just a financial commitment, but also a commitment to the community and to a certain lifestyle. When the government comes in, you know, like, for example, after buying a house five years into it, when the government comes in to say, oh, oops, now we’re going to build a mix of families, different density housings in this previously single-family exclusive district, zoning district. Not only they’re destroying the home value, they basically changed the total lifestyle, and also they are putting extra demand for the infrastructure that wasn’t built to support the high-density housing. So all of this is almost equivalent to a breach of contract, a breach of government that the homeowners sign up to. So this creates a whole choose our problems that homeowners, that this is why for single-family homeowners, what we see in Lakewood and many other municipalities in Colorado, that homeowners are rising up to push back to this kind of up-zoning legislation.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and what happened in Lakewood in that special election was this last Tuesday, and the grassroots citizens were victorious in this. And it was across the political spectrum. It was Democrats and Republicans and unaffiliated and different age groups that came together to get these questions in the special election, and they were victorious. And that is really exciting, I think, Helen Raleigh.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes, I think I really congratulate the residents of Lakewood. They put up a really tough fight. I learned from talking to interview some of them when I was writing these pieces that the city council really did not make it easy for them. They changed the way they framed the questions on the ballot. It was very confusing. And they also put up all these different deadlines and also broke the original rules ordinance into four, make it harder for them to put them on a ballot. So I really congratulate the Lakewood residents for putting up the really tough fight. I think they set up a really good example to show other municipalities. This is not just about property rights. It’s really also about the fundamental question. Should the land use decisions to rest with the families and the communities who actually live there? Or should it reside with the politicians who try to pursue some kind of ideological agenda from the top down. So I think that the other residents from other municipalities really can draw inspiration from Lakewood.

Absolutely. And people can find this piece at the Federalist, and its politicians think more zoning laws will fix housing prices, but the data says otherwise. She’s a senior contributor at The Federalist, and she’s the author of several books, including Confucius Never Said, Backlash, How Communist China’s Aggression Has Backfired, and her latest book, Not Outsiders, Asian Americans’ Political Activism from the 19th Century to Today. Helen Raleigh, I had seen this headline, and you have written a piece on this, and you published this earlier this month, that Spain killed a 25-year-old rape victim and harvested her organs. This is chilling, Helen Raleigh.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, this is a very heavy subject, so a little trigger warning for listeners. This is really heartbreaking, and I was very shaken by this story. So basically, this young woman in Spain, her name is Noli Castelo Ramos. She’s only 25 years old. She basically grew up in this foster care system because of her family. She came from a very broken family background. Parents separated. Dad had an alcohol issue. So since age 13, she’s been in this state-run foster care system. The system was supposed to take care of her, but the system neglected her, and she endured all kinds of abuses, especially sexual abuses. In 2022, while she was staying in one of those government-run care centers, she was raped by three young men, and she tried to commit suicide multiple times. last time she jumped from a building, tried to commit suicide. She survived, but was paralyzed from waist down. So Spain passed a physician assistant suicide law back in 2021. And this law was initially sold to voters as a way to allow people who suffer, who are terminally ill, who have no hope to recover, terminally ill, very, very ill, But then the law gradually expanded to allow adults as young as 18, like this young woman, and if they suffered like a serious or chronically disabled condition or psychological, even psychological condition, then they can request for assistance at that. And that’s what she chose to do. Her father fought a legal battle to try to prevent her from doing this. But here’s the even more chilling part. Hospital staff reportedly told Ramos’ father that she must die because her organ already committed to supposedly, quote unquote, save other people. So this really gets me angry and outraged because this young woman was neglected by this supposedly state-run system. She’s supposed to take care of her. They neglected her her whole young life. But in the end, when she decided to die, she suddenly presented value to them because now they can harvest her young organs. Because her young organs can mean millions of dollars for procedures to save other people. So now they’re paying attention to her, then she must die for them. And this whole story is very, very upsetting.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and it could happen here as well. I remember it’s been a number of years, but Colorado has, I think, an assisted suicide law. I need to check that out. But it can go down a very dark road. And one of the things you said, that the progressives have a very dark worldview.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. And I think, yes, I think it is a whole popularization of us. physician’s assistant suicide, you know, has been promoted as this solution, as a empowering solution. You know, after Ramos was killed by, well, I say she was killed by physician assistant suicide, that some of the art, some of the newspapers, some even celebrate, you know, celebrate her and say, oh, you know, she won the legal battle for the right to die. And there is no winning And I really think it is all driven by the progressive world will that indoctrinate our young people that, hey, life should be free of pain and suffering. And if you suffer pain and if you endure pain and suffering, death is a way out, is an empowering solution. It is really not because suffering and pain is part of life. And when the progressive demean religion you know, these demeaning family connections, and then they promise to take care of our kids and send them to state-run care system and neglected them, and then eventually offer them death, you know, a quick death as an empowering solution. This whole world, well, it is dark, and it is very, very troubling.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow. I just took a quick look here. And this is I was trying to find when Colorado it was 2016 that Colorado voters approved the End of Life Options Act. But it says this is from the Colson Center. It said in 2016, Canada legalized medical assistance in dying. Less than a decade later, the practice accounts for one in 20 of all deaths in the country. That’s astounding. And then you connected this dot regarding the harvesting of organs. And we’ve heard that that has occurred in China with the Uyghurs, but it’s happening in the West as well now.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. And Kim, think about it. It’s just a natural downward slope, right? The first, you know, again, there’s so much misinformation about it. The first word to… voters were told, oh, you know, this system of suicide law really, really just for people who you can imagine like really suffering from terminally ill, probably older, lived a full life and they really couldn’t endure the pain anymore. They just want to, you know, be released from this pain and the suffering. But then once you have this law in book, it happened in Europe, it happened in Canada, they quickly expanded to, oh, now it’s including young people. Not only the including young people, but also it they expanded from physical, you know, terminal yield to psychological impact. And now you suddenly this pool become much, much wider. And then, of course, as soon as they include young, expanded to include young people, including psychologically affected young people, and then several countries from Spain to Canada and the Netherlands, they also combined the system of suicide with you know, with organ donation. They call it organ donation. So this whole thing is a very, very dark past. And I really want to, you know, warn people that in the United States, there are 13 states and the District of Washington, D.C., District of Columbia, all have this physician assistance law. And a civilization, a civilization cannot survive if people especially young people, are getting killed in this way. Troubled young people. We just get rid of them, offer them a death as a solution. To me, a civilization does this, is morally bankrupt, and cannot numerically survive for long term. That’s why this story impacts me so much. You know, this young woman, she’s 25 years old. She has her whole life in front of her. Her dad actually posted the family videos after her death. showing that she was making physical progress. So for the progress to celebrate or for her death as a solution and prevent her from changing her mind, this is not an empowering solution. This is not voluntary. This is a very dark path that we should all be aware of.
SPEAKER 03 :
We really should. And you can look at these important words, and you can see the difference between a society that is healthy, and that’s one that creates and innovates, values life. And then what we see with this progressive worldview is it’s dark, it’s destructive, and it’s death. And as you say, society cannot survive with that. We’ve got about 20 seconds left. Well, we covered some very dark subjects this morning, but we also covered some inspirational stories. So I want people to focus on the inspirational story, what’s happening with Lakewood. And I think somehow, by some weird way, those two stories are related, which means that we all have, you know, we are all created by God. We all have God, you know, God is the one who empowers us, that gives us the ability to fight back, to live a fulfilling life, no matter how much challenges, you know, we’re facing ahead of us. But if we work together, if we rise up, want to defend our rights and our way of living, there are paths to success, there are paths to live a fulfilling life.

And what we see that is with many of these NGOs, non-governmental organizations or non-profits. where we have politicians and bureaucrats and interested parties. They can all come together, and there is emoluments for many people within that arena. But your challenge is to use emolument, and again, that is E-M-O-L-U-M-E-N-T in a sentence today. And our quote of the day is from the Medal of Honor quote book, which I would recommend that you have at home on your shelf of your Freedom Library. And you can get that by going to the website for the Center for American Values, which is located in Pueblo. And for all of you Republicans that are down in Pueblo for the assembly this weekend, I’d recommend that you add in a visit to the center and get the book. And that website is AmericanValueCenter.org. But this quote is from William D. Swinson, United States Army Medal of Honor recipient. actions that he took on September 8, 2009, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. And he said this, always rise to the occasion. And if we take that advice each and every day, it is amazing what will be accomplished. And again, that is by… William D. Swenson. Our bill of the day is, as I was reading this, I could feel my blood pressure going up. And this is House Bill 26-1360, Affordable Housing Financing Fund. The voters, and there was actually, I think this was Prop 123 is what I think it was. Several years ago, it was a proposition on the ballot. Our voter’s guide, hard no on that and our reasoning. It was, of course, the other side was well-financed, but it was both Republicans. We had Republican consultants that were being paid to get that approved. And then what happened was a big income tax for affordable housing. The sponsors on this bill, House Bill 26-1360, unfortunately, there is bipartisan support on this. Representative Kyle Brown, Democrat. Representative Rick Taggart, Republican. Senator Jeff Bridges, Democrat. Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer, Republican. Republican. And this is CUT’s position on the bill. And let’s get to that. And it says, again, House Bill 26-1360, says this bill directs the state treasurer to transfer $130 million from the state affordable housing fund to the general fund. CUT votes no on this bill. Voters approved this fund in November of 2022 to fund affordable housing from income taxes. We see now that only one-tenth of 1% of this money goes to affordable housing. DOLA, the Department of Local Affairs, and HCPF, the Department of Healthcare and Financing, receive approximately 40% of this tax money. And ODOT, which is the Office of Economic Development, receives approximately 60%. And that money is then used to dole out to special interests and picking winners and losers. That’s not the proper role of government. Cut continues, this bill just moves money around to meet the one-day balanced budget requirement. But rest assured, this transfer will not reduce funds available for administrative expenses, salaries for state employees, etc., etc. So we are a hard no on that. Oh, there’s nothing like a new baby. Oh, that’s congratulations to you and Rocia. But also, you’ve been busy because you’re running for State Senate District 4, correct?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am. Mark Daisley’s former seat. I had my assembly over the weekend, and I’m very happy to say that I am the only candidate to make the ballot out of three. I got 77.4% of the votes, so I will be the only one on the primary ballot come June.
SPEAKER 03 :
So that means what you can do now is focus on the general. Correct.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, I do have a pretty serious Democrat challenger. They are trying to flip a seat blue, so we definitely don’t need to take our guard down on Senate District 4. It’s definitely one we want to keep at the solid ours territory, and we want to pick up some gains elsewhere so we can flip that Senate majority back in our favor.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, because right now with this one-party rule down at the statehouse and in the governor’s mansion, as we’re watching this legislation down there, there is just really onerous legislation that hurts everyday people significantly, Teddy.
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s a mess. It really is. We have people that are not acting at the best interest of their constituents or Coloradans across the state. We have a budget and a deficit that has exploded. We have $1.5 billion in deficits. We’ve managed to get that down to $500 million, but we’re still about $500 million short. So maybe that’s, you know, you were just talking about this bill earlier. Maybe that’s why they’re trying to put it into the general fund. That being said, we need to doge the state, find all the corruption and waste, because there’s got to be a ton of it, and we’ve got to cut pet projects from politicians.
SPEAKER 03 :
I totally agree. And we need to cut income taxes. Of course, our tax day is right around the corner as well. And it’s really a wealth transfer from everyday hardworking people on these income taxes. And when we look at the fraud that we’ve seen in Minnesota, it looks like in California, we need to be looking at that here in Colorado as well. We need to lower taxes. and get government back into its proper role, Teddy Collins?
SPEAKER 09 :
A hundred percent. I mean, if you think about it, there’s no doubt that we have more fraud than Minnesota. We really need a dose of the state. We really need to figure out where our tax dollars are actually going. And we need to get government out of the way. We talk about Colorado being one of the least affordable states to live in. Well, that’s because of red tape regulations and rules. We’ve got to cut those. We’ve got to allow the citizenry to keep more money in their pocket so they can spend it in our economy. And we’ve got to entice businesses to come here versus late.

And really amazing article. articles and essays there. So let’s start with this first one. And you are writing a book about this, yes, but it’s wisdom from the founders in their own words. So tell us about the book.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay. The book is entitled Born of Ideas and subtitled How Principles, Faith, and Courage Forged America. And it tells the story of the key events and people and ideas that from the Mayflower Compact of 1620 through and including the Bill of Rights of the late 1780s.
SPEAKER 03 :
And is this available, or when will it be available?
SPEAKER 16 :
Right now, it’s scheduled to go online on websites like Amazon for purchase in early May, hopefully May 1. But you know how these things go. So within a few days of May 1, for sure, it should be available online. all the major book websites, bookseller websites.

Well, and how timely with our 250th birthday.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yes. That’s right. We have a great opportunity coming up to remind ourselves of why America is so great, so exceptional, and why its founding was an incredible shot across the bow of the tyrants of the world at the time.
SPEAKER 03 :
And we’ve got a lot of tyrants right now. A tyrant doesn’t have to be just one person. What I see, for example, there’s tyrannical legislation coming out of this Colorado state legislature. And this Democrat Party is not the Democrat Party of JFK. This Democrat Party is really moving towards socialism. socialism, communism. We have avowed communists that are getting elected into office. And so it doesn’t have to be one person. It can be a body of people as well that can be tyrants. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 16 :
It can be an agency. It can be a department of government that runs roughshod over its mandate and your rights. That happens all the time.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and so this piece that you had published March 21st, Wisdom from the Founders in Their Own Words. And I’ve never really read Abigail Adams much, but you have in here a letter, something from a letter that she wrote to John Adams in November of 1775. Now, we’ve got to remember, 1775. things were very hot regarding the revolution. And so that was, that was just kind of give us the time that she was writing this. And then let’s talk about this particular quote.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay. When she wrote this letter, it was November of 1775. And that’s about halfway between the first shot that was fired at Lexington and and the battles of Lexington and Concord in April of 1775, and the Declaration of Independence, which would occur a few months later in July of 76. And there’s a great line in it in which he says, I am more and more convinced that man is a dangerous creature and that power, whether vested in many or a few, is ever grasping and, like the grave, cries, give, give. The great fish swallow up the small, and he who is most strenuous for the rights of the people when vested with power is as eager after the prerogatives of power. So she really understood the nature of power.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and Lawrence, I served on city council for four years, 2012 to 2016. And there are many well-meaning people that run for office. They get elected. And one of the first things that happens is whatever the entity is, is the bureaucrats bring the electeds in and explain what the entity is doing. They bring in all the different departments and the departments explain why they need money, why they need to be there. And what can happen is that electeds then start to forget that they are there as representatives of the people, and they start to think that they are there to serve the people. the city, the entity. And so I’ve seen very well-meaning people can get hijacked. And I realize that we as citizens have a job, and that is to stay engaged with these electeds so that they’re not in this bubble, this silo, that they’re only getting information from, I call them PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties. We need to make sure that we bring the citizens into all of this as well, Lawrence.
SPEAKER 16 :
Oh, absolutely, Kim. And what you just described, politicians being sort of co-opted by the permanent bureaucracy. It happens all the time at every level of government, and it’s one of the many reasons, I think, that Ben Franklin warned us that if we wanted to remain free, we had to engage in the process, keep an eye on the politicians, and utilize what he called eternal vigilance.
SPEAKER 03 :
And that means that we need to be active. We had something really exciting happen out here in Colorado. Colorado is really a pretty dark place right now from a political standpoint. But the people are starting to pay attention. And there were a number of volunteers that came together in Lakewood, Colorado. to get four questions on a special election. The election was just this last Tuesday to push back on this upzoning, this density. They do it under the guise of affordable housing. And the city council, the PBIs, And this city manager, they had passed these ordinances, which would change the fabric of their community. So these citizens came together and got these questions on the ballot. And they were and they were also outspent almost six to one, but they were victorious. And so this is in the spirit of our founding. It’s so exciting.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, absolutely. I because I live in Georgia, I haven’t followed Colorado yet. events, but I’m encouraged to hear that. Kudos to the people who are paying some attention and getting active on behalf of things they believe in.
SPEAKER 03 :
And so they did it in 1775, 1776. We can do this 250 years later. Before we go to break, I just wanted to talk about one of the other writers that you had here. It’s somebody that I don’t know, and that is Mercy Otis Warren. And you quoted something from Observations on the New Constitution in 1788. So tell us about Mercy.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay, Mercy Otis Warren is, Unfortunately, somewhat forgotten, but she really deserves to be recognized eternally as a great figure of this period. She was known at the time as the conscience of the American Revolution. She was a playwright and author. And behind the scenes, she was very active, encouraging the Sons of Liberty, holding secret meetings for the Sons of Liberty at her home. She was writing plays that took aim at the king and the governor of the British governor of Massachusetts. And just an amazingly productive woman. She ultimately wrote the first major history of the colonial period, especially the run up to the Declaration of Independence. And when Thomas Jefferson was president of the United States, he made her book required reading for his entire cabinet.
SPEAKER 03 :

Oh, yes. Yeah, you can find books by her or her main book anyway, maybe some of her plays as well, but also books about her, good biographies out there on almost any major bookstore.

And I think it was regarding an interview that you did about socialism is force and why Jesus was not a socialist. So let’s talk about that.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay, I’ve actually written a book as well on the subject entitled, Was Jesus a Socialist? And that’s available from any major bookseller website. Well, you know, much depends upon how one defines socialism. An awful lot of people seem to think that socialism is nothing more than taking care of people, giving them things, relieving them of responsibility and worries. Well, there’s an awful lot more of that going on under capitalism than there ever is under socialism. But the main thing is to recognize that socialism, by definition, is the concentration of power and the use of force to achieve certain objectives. Sometimes socials will emphasize the central planning of an economy. Other times they stress the redistribution of wealth. or the government ownership of the means of production, but whatever it is that they promise, the only way they can and do attempt to accomplish it is through the use of force. Socialism isn’t a list of tips for helpful living that you can accept or decline. Under socialism, the state tells you what to do, where you can live, or any number of other things about your life. It is not volunteerism, and Jesus never said, advocated the use of force for any of those objectives. He never said, turn it over to the government. He never said the government should take over your property or redistribute your wealth. In fact, he explicitly rejected requests that he received from people to redistribute wealth.
SPEAKER 03 :
And that is one of the things, though, that with government programs, they try to make it sound like it’s charitable. For example, I just mentioned a bill. I think it was House Bill 1360. So the voters approved an income tax for affordable housing. This was back in twenty twenty two. And of course, it’s guys just trying to help people. But then this year, Colorado has a big budget deficit. So they are taking $130 million from this affordable housing fund and putting it into the general fund. And so it’s disingenuous, it’s dishonest to be using… It could be for the kids or whatever. They use that narrative to actually… talk people into putting in tax increases. And what we should do is lower taxes. People can have more money in their own pocket and they can make those decisions on how they want to be charitable. Lawrence Reed.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah. The promises of socialism, that’s the vote buying part. That’s where politicians say, hey, don’t forget me at election time. I’m going to do some good for you. I’ll give you stuff. I’ll vilify the people I’m taking it from and give it to you, and you should remember me at the polling booth. We shouldn’t forget that the $9 billion in welfare fraud in Minnesota started out as wonderful promises to help people, whether it be for daycare or food stamps or any number of other things. This is the way it’s sold, and then it becomes a vote-buying scheme, and politicians look the other way when corruption emerges because The whole point of the welfare state is to enable power-seeking politicians to get votes and accumulate power on the promise that they’re actually helping other people.
SPEAKER 03 :
And so I think that we are at a point now that with looking at, for example, the fraud in Minnesota, that first of all, Americans are very charitable. And but that charity has been used to increase taxes, increase programs. This is, I think, a defining moment in our country is that I think people have got to say enough is enough and start to reclaim the American idea and get government back into its proper role.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I certainly hope it’s a wake up call to that effect. bringing this back to the words of Jesus, he was approached, and this is in Luke 12, 13 through 15, he was approached by a man who said, Master, speak to my brother that he divideth the inheritance with me. In other words, use your power, your influence to redistribute wealth. I didn’t get enough or as much as I want. And Jesus didn’t say, well, look into that. Instead, he rebuked the man for his envy. And he did so with the opening remark, man, who made me a judge or divider over you? Now, don’t you wish welfare state politicians would say that at some point, that, hey, maybe I’m setting myself up here to do something I’m not supposed to do, to judge and divide people and take from some and give to others. Jesus explicitly rejected that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and I think that it also goes to the Ten Commandments. And I remember Dennis Prager said that he felt that of all the commandments, if you were going to have to choose one, he said that thou shalt not steal. is a really important one. And so thou shalt not steal other people’s money, their lives, their opportunity. And that really is what socialism is. It comes down to force and taking from one to give to another. That, in essence, is, I think, stealing, Lawrence Reed.
SPEAKER 16 :
We should note that that Eighth Commandment, thou shalt not steal, ends right there with a period. It doesn’t say thou shalt not steal unless you really need it. Or thou shalt not steal unless you think you can spend it better than the person who earned it. Or thou shalt not steal, but you can hire a politician to do it on your behalf. It says thou shalt not steal, period. And the Tenth Commandment, two commandments later, says thou shalt not covet. In other words, count your blessings, don’t count the other guy’s.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and that’s I think another socialism is is based on envy. It’s based on coveting and then using government to take from one person because of envy and coveting. And so that’s the the. That’s where that’s at. But in capitalism, true capitalism, not cronyism, where business and government work together, but in capitalism, where there is this free exchange of value for value, then people’s lives improve under that. And I think that people don’t quite understand that. And getting free stuff means that it has to be taken from somebody else, Lawrence.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, that’s right. And we all know the story of the feeding of the 5,000 in the Bible, where 5,000 people came to hear Jesus speak, and most were quite hungry. The disciples had almost nothing to give them. And what did Jesus tell them when they asked him, how are we going to feed these people? He didn’t say, well, go find a neighborhood of rich people and take their stuff, or go rob a grocery store. Instead, he used his own unique power to to create wealth, he didn’t take anything from anybody else. And if he were to come back today and ask any audience, well, what did you do for the poor? You know, I was concerned about them. What did you do? If somebody raised their hand and said, well, I voted for the politicians who said they would take care of that, I think Jesus would be sorely disappointed. He would say, what? I didn’t tell you to farm that out to the I’m interested in what’s in your heart. I said you should do something. Don’t turn it over to the politicians. If they solve the problem at all, it’ll be at three times the cost.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and… Lawrence, there is certainly a group of people that, and it’s a small group, that need help. But I think that we can take care of that from a charity standpoint. But then all of these other programs where people do not have to work to receive this government money is really turning people around. into almost like pets instead of a dignified human beings because there is great dignity in work and there’s great dignity in trading your, your work for value, uh, to help improve a business. And, um, I think, no, go ahead.
SPEAKER 16 :
I was going to say, it’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? That you go to a state or national park and you see signs that the government puts up that says, uh, don’t feed the animals, it’ll make them dependent. But they don’t behave that way when it comes to people. And politicians have discovered that, wow, if I can make people dependent upon me and what I vote for, I can guarantee my reelection. It’s a racket is what it really amounts to.
SPEAKER 03 :
So final thought, what do we do about this, Lawrence Reed?
SPEAKER 16 :
We have to educate people. We have to respond to those who make false claims. such as Jesus was a socialist, or the welfare state will take care of you, or you can’t do it, you need us in government. All of those things are seriously flawed. And at a time of a $38 trillion national debt, we ought to be saying no to every new spending request, or at least say, if you’re going to spend more, cut someplace else, at least dollar for dollar.

Good morning, everybody. I’m going to not give you everything that’s on my mind. But Saturday, tomorrow, we’re going to an assembly meeting. as a group of citizens to peacefully assemble and vote on various candidates, both what you would call establishment and what you would call grassroots. And it breaks my heart that so many of our Republican Party members are in the dark of what is truly happening, and they’re wrong. I have been involved for six years now with the incredible people surrounding Tina Peters. You know, the people right around her and then the people who are all over the board about Tina. And one of the most impressive people in the whole thing is Mark Cook. And he has a website called handcountroadshow.org. And it is so critical that every single citizen go to that website, and get familiar with his information and the shows he’s been on. You know, you can get links. Plus, he’s on Twitter at Patriot Mark Cook. And why it’s so important is he has done two big exposés of late about the fact that it’s not just that our votes are vulnerable in the machines through Internet. They don’t need the Internet to access every single piece of information in our vote, in our election systems, the voter rolls, the registrations, the ability to literally swap ballots from one candidate to another. This is an algorithmic truth. But what this is, is such a huge, huge tyranny because 72 nations have now had their elections stolen over the last decade or more And it’s proven our DOJ has data. They should have acted on it. And it will totally exonerate the fact that Tina Peters never interfered in an election. She preserved a

Okay, and Gammy is, as I said, she’s very well informed, and Tina did preserve records. She is currently in prison in Pueblo, and her sentencing has been sent back down from the appeals court to she needs to be resentenced. They said it was exorbitant, but no movement on that yet, and Governor Jared Polis needs to release her. is what needs to happen and he needs to release her immediately. Thank you, Mrs. Kim. I recently realized I connect dots sometimes, which is kind of dangerous for a person like me. But anyway, Colorado has, I think, a larger amount of unaffiliated voters than we have either registered Republicans or Democrats. I’m not sure if I’m correct on that.

You are totally correct. In fact, it’s a little over 50 percent of Colorado voters are registered as unaffiliated.
SPEAKER 18 :
And, Kim, this is kind of a wild dream of mine, but I sort of wonder, I’m curious how you or perhaps anyone else listening might feel. Since the RINO Republican GOP has been so useless in Colorado at best, and I think at worst they have allowed the Democrat supermajority to just run rampant here, Suppose, and I know this is a first stretch, but it seems to me Colorado would be far better served were we to simply craft a new party that would accommodate these people who are all smart enough to belong to neither major party. But I presume these people are able to vote and take an active interest. They just don’t participate because both parties are totally corrupt. Just curious what you might think about that. Well, thank you so much, Mark and Aurora. And it’s such an interesting question. I’m not sure that this big, broad amount of unaffiliateds would become involved in a political party. So in a way, I think what we’re doing at the show is that we are – We are looking at these issues so that we can really understand what the issues are and elect people that understand the proper role of government. It’s a good question. I’m going to have to actually contemplate on that, Mark and Aurora, because we are so blessed and we are living, as I had said one day, that I hope that we’re not living on the fumes of freedom. We are so blessed in our lives right now, but right underneath the surface, is a tyranny that will tear all of this away. And we’re seeing this with legislation down at the statehouse and then the governor signing legislation. So that’s why I would really encourage you to join CUT, Colorado’s Union of Taxpayers. That’s coloradotaxpayer.org so that you can understand what’s going on. So the first thing that we have to do is make sure that people are informed and understand what’s going on and also understand the principles. And then this just came in from Molly Lamar. She said Cherry Creek School District announces a budget cuts and shortfall. So again, this mismanagement, and it could be at a school district, but it could be at a state. When we look at what’s going on with our state, people are leaving the state because of high taxes, high regulations, more and more control of our lives, and we’ve got to get government back into its proper role. And our founders were able to explain what that proper role is. And that is explained in the vision of our declaration. So I’d highly recommend that you read the declaration. And then also the Constitution. It doesn’t take that long. And then we need to be interfacing with our electeds. And we need to be… recommending that government start to become smaller. And of course, it’s going to happen one way or another as they’re learning at the Cherry Creek School District. You’re either going to have good management and you’re going to do budget cuts, or because of bad management, you’re going to have to do budget cuts because people will… vote with their feet. And a lot of parents are voting with their feet and their children and taking these kids out of these government schools because we do want our children to be able to read and write and do arithmetic and know history and have a good education so that they can thrive and flourish. And so we’re at a real time of choosing, particularly here in Colorado. And so that’s why we do this show. And so that you can be informed on all of these particular issues. And I so appreciate each and every one of you. So our quote for the end of the show is John Hancock. And Colonel Rutledge and I are going to do a show on John Hancock. He said he’s reading a book and he said he’s a remarkable man. Of course, one of our founders. And also do check out America’s Veterans Stories this Sunday. We did a great interview regarding Bobby Jones and the Masters. Check all that out. But this is what John Hancock said. He said, “…resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. Continue steadfast and with a proper sense of your dependence on God. Nobly defend those rights which heaven gave and no man ought to take from us.” So my friends today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way.
