SPEAKER 01 :
Savior, Redeemer, the Christ, Messiah, all terms of greatness in terms exclusively of Jesus Christ. Let’s look at the Son, the Superior Son. And that’s coming up from the International Gospel Hour. Stay right here.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hi, this is Jay Webb for International Gospel Hour. Welcome to our broadcast today. For over 90 years, Churches of Christ have proclaimed God’s Word through our broadcasts. Just ahead is another Bible-based lesson with Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour. Let’s begin.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, thank you to our J-Web once again. Greetings to all of you, and it’s so good to have you with us for our studies today from here, from the International Gospel Hour. You know, as of this recording and of you listening to us, we are in our 91st year, and to God be the glory. You are listening to one of the longest-running weekly religious programs in the history of radio, and we are blessed to have that distinction. May God continue to bless us in our labors, and thank you for the interest you have in the things that be of God. Today we are going to return to the book of Hebrews. Let’s begin with Hebrews 1, 1-3. That says, God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds, who, being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. one cannot help but to see the superiority of the Christ. As we just read, superior to the prophets of old, those prophets we read of in 1 Peter 1, 10-12, of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. O friends, what beauty! And you know, when we continue in Hebrews 1, verses 3-7… One sees Jesus’ superiority to the angels, those created beings of the Father, and especially in verse 5, For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son? Well, the answer to that is none. In Matthew 17, verse 5, God declared Jesus as His Son, in whom He was well pleased. Hear ye Him. So, of course, God said no such thing to an angel. But in a moment, let’s see what God said unto the Son. We’ll be back in a matter of seconds. But first, a few words from our J-Web.

You’ll also notice the video app will have two lessons, two video lessons, of the late Brother V.E. Howard, our first speaker of this broadcast. To God be the glory, and may it be of help to you. And now let’s look at Hebrews 1, 8-13. But to the Son he says, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Therefore, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions. And you, Lord, in the beginning have laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain. And they will all grow old like a garment, like a cloak. You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will not fail. But to which of the angels has he ever said, Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? Oh, friends, let’s look at this text. Christ is superior for to the Son, he says. To the Son, Jesus, he is called God. Thus the power of deity. Noted in the prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 7 and verse 14, and Isaiah 9 and verse 6. The teaching of Jesus as Emmanuel, God with us, when He was born into this world, Matthew 1, 21 through 23. And in John chapter 1, verses 1 and 14. In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Into verse 2, the same was in the beginning with God in verse 14. How the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. The Son Jesus is God. In verse 8, to the Son Jesus, He acknowledges His throne. We go back to the preaching on the day of Pentecost. The day the church came into existence as there were those added to the church, the pre-denominational, non-denominational body of Christ of which we encourage people to be a part this day. In Acts 2, 33-36, Peter and the apostles are preaching, Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this which you now see and hear, For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. And that also answers the question proposed in Hebrews 8 and verse 13. But to which of the angels has he ever said, Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool? Again, not to the angels, but to the superior Son, to the Son, Jesus Christ. And in verse 10 of Hebrews chapter 8, to the Son, Jesus. He is acknowledged for laying the foundations of the world. And we note this from Colossians 1, verses 15 through 17, speaking of Christ. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for him, and he is before all things, and in him all things consist. Friends, when we look at that first chapter of the book of Hebrews, the Son Jesus Christ is superior, all authority, over all and above all. He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence, Colossians 1 and verse 18. One day I received a phone call wanting to know about the earthly headquarters of the church of Christ. And I declared there are no earthly headquarters of the church of Christ, for our head, Jesus Christ, is in heaven on the right hand of the Father. Therefore He has left us His Word that we will study and see His will for our lives. For all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable, for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. So friends, let’s learn about the Christ through His Word. If you will, let’s spend some time in the Bible. Want to pause here for just a little bit? Our J-Web has a very special online study for you we think you’ll find quite profitable. Then I’ll come back with an optional study for you in just a few moments. For right now, here is our J-Web.
