On this Encore show, Darren and I talk about the wonderful life of being filled with the Holy Spirit. God wants you to experience a life of freedom because Jesus tells you in John 3 that you must be born again and then go on to deeper things in the Spirit because whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We get a call from Mike who’s confused about baptism in water and baptism in the Holy Spirit. So we read Matthew 3.11 where John the Baptist says, “…as for me, I baptize you with water for repentance.” But he who is coming after me is mightier than I. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Now let’s join the program.

We got a call early this morning from Nancy out in eastern Colorado. We prayed for her yesterday.

And she said our loan went through. She was very happy about that. Praise God.

But you know the part of the report that I liked? She says, pray that I will become, in so many words, a Christian I need to become. She’s a fairly new Christian. I praise God for her sincere heart, and God’s going to honor her prayers. I just know that. So thank you for praying for Nancy. Got a rather speedy answer there, and that’s like God. He likes to do it in a hurry.

That’s right. He sure does. He does when we’re obedient and when we want to do His will. He sees our heart, and He sees our heart first, Darren. And if it’s an obedient heart, if it’s a heart that wants to do His will, boy, He will bend over backwards to bless us and help us.

All right. Listen up, all you children out there, and every one of you has been a child. That’s one thing we have all in common. We’ve all been children at one time in our lives. If you have a mom or a substitute mom who has just really been a great influence in your life, and most of you have. Most of you can actually say, my mom was as… good as she could be for the circumstances. And we would like you to sit down and just send a note saying why your mom deserves a night out. And we will pick a winner on next Monday. That’s May 11th. And I think that’s May 11th, isn’t it? Sure. And I haven’t seen that one, looked at the calendar for a couple of days.

South of Lamar. I’m looking forward to being there. And we’re going to do a wonderful meeting. You know in those meetings we see people get healed and born again, set free. And we get to have a box seat, Barbara. It’s like a front row seat to see the miracle God in operation. And that always happens. The anointing is there. I’ve just got to tell you, it will be there at the high school in Springfield. And we’re looking forward to that. It’s going to start at 7 o’clock p.m. in the evening. And you tell your friends in southwestern Kansas and the panhandle of Oklahoma and down into north Texas there and southeastern Colorado, we’re coming. And I know they’re putting out some flyers and doing some newspaper advertising, but We’re going to have some new friends there. I’ve been talking to them on the phone. I haven’t met these people before. And it’s going to be exciting. We love to go out and do those meetings because the ways of God are always in operation. We see miracles. We see God just do wonderful things. And we’re looking forward to making some new friends and also meeting some of you personally that have been writing to us and calling us over this past year, year and a half, that We’ve been here on KLT Radio. Also, tonight we’re having a meeting at 120th and I-25. That’s North Denver. And we’re going to get into a study of the demonstration of the Holy Spirit on the dead things in our lives, Darren. And all of us have had things that have died, and we thought they were going to live. We thought we were going to have… dreams that died, vocations that died. And we’re going to see that reversed tonight in our study. It’s going to be exciting. We’re going to see how you can reverse that thing that you thought was dead in your life and bring it to life.

Amen, amen. You know, this walk with the Lord is a relationship. And it’s not a performance thing. It’s not something where you go and you just go through a ritual thing, go home and say, well, I spent some time. I did my attendance or whatever. I’ve heard people say that. We want you to know Holy Spirit and know the Lord God. And by the way, we’re talking about really the gifts of the Spirit this week. And we do have a two-tape series for you that would be very enlightening. It’s one of our best. It’s called Tongues Turning on the Power. Now, if you have to say to yourself, you know, I’ve been going in circles here. I’ve been doing the loop. I go to work, go to church, come home, go to work, go to church, come home, you know, and that’s your week. Why don’t you allow Holy Spirit to empower your life so when you pray, you see results? Well, on this two-tape series, you’ll find those secrets, I’ll call them secrets, and the ways of God. They’re really not secrets, just unknown to most of the body of Christ.

It’s available to all of us. That’s right. He’s revealed his mysteries to his children, his servants.

So one of the ways that you can get the mysteries really out of the mind of God is through the vehicle of tongues, through that marvelous gift. Some of you are struggling in your business, and you don’t have to struggle. God’s made a way for you to know the mysteries. And some of you, without the mysteries of God, your business is going to go down the tube. I’ll just tell you. I know how it works. I’ve watched it too many years.

That’s right. And some churches and ministries put down tongues as not needed for today. But if they’re not, Darren, why did Paul devote the whole 14th chapter of 1 Corinthians to tongues?

I don’t know. Well, anyway. Well, yes, I do know. I do know the enemy. I know the importance of it. The least of the gifts is very important.

You know, the enemy wants to keep us out of that territory. He wants to cheat us out of this wonderful vehicle of language. But anyway, it’s a marvelous way to learn and be guided by the Holy Spirit.

Do you know what the devil wants?

I took a breath and there you went.

That’s right. He wants to detain God’s people. He wants to corral them. He wants them to put them in a little tiny place. No, if you feel violence toward this teaching, let me make a suggestion to you and be real wise at this point.

If you say, well, that’s absolutely not for me, that’s fine. I can accept that. You have a will, you can make up your own mind. You can make up your own choices. You say, that’s just never going to be a part of my theology. Fine. But what if I’m right? And you coming against the teaching of the Holy Spirit means you’re touching the anointing. That is a scary, scary thing, folks. You’re walking on thin ice. So do yourself a great big favor and don’t touch the anointing of Holy Spirit. If you don’t understand it, it’s not for you. Make that decision. Fine. You can still get to heaven. You can be born again and get to heaven without this gift. I think you’re running on spiritual. Well, you’re running on a pen light better and you can have it all. So don’t touch the anointing, folks. It’s very, very serious. And just leave it alone. Just back off. And don’t fight it. Don’t condemn it. Don’t curse it. Just leave it alone. All right. Here’s a two-tape series for you. Matter of fact, we’ve added four tapes. I’ll call it four-tape series, which it is on marriage, divorce, and remarriage. We’re getting a lot of orders for this. There is a notebook that goes along with this. It will take you back to the original languages of Hebrew and Greek. and also the numberings for the Strong Concordance, so you can go and say, well, now, Darren and Barbara just blown a going, or did they base this on biblical truth? I can tell you it’s based on biblical truth, but you’re the one that’s going to have to take it and go for it. So it’s available for you. I started listening to the radio here for about five months now.

Well, welcome, brother.

Yeah, December 31st, 1997. I came to Jesus.

Wonderful.

Anyway, I started going to church and everything, and I got baptized March 15th.

SPEAKER 05 : 10:59

Good.

SPEAKER 04 : 11:00

And the question I had for you is, what is this baptism in the Holy Spirit?

SPEAKER 03 : 11:07

Well, Mike, you called one of the right places. We can tell you about that. But let me ask you, did you get water baptized?

SPEAKER 04 : 11:12

Yeah, March 15th.

SPEAKER 03 : 11:14

Did they put you clear under the water? Yeah. That’s called immersion.

SPEAKER 04 : 11:17

Yeah. Well, that’s when I went out to church the last week.

SPEAKER 03 : 11:21

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER 04 : 11:24

I was down in a class for members, so I was going to join, be a member, you know.

SPEAKER 05 : 11:27

Right.

SPEAKER 04 : 11:28

And he asked everybody down there if they was baptized in the Holy Spirit, and I just thought it meant being baptized. And they talked about being tongues, and I tried to do that at home, but I didn’t understand. You know, that’s one of the things that I don’t understand.

We can help you with that, but let me give you this, Mike. When we get our bodies baptized… then there’s also our spirit, the inner man. That’s part of us that’s on the inside, and that also needs to be baptized. And that’s what the minister was talking about. But that’s good that they introduced you to that, because that’s where the power is, brother.

Yeah, I understand that, and I was kind of surprised that, you know, I didn’t know what was going on, and I thought, well, because I knew the Holy Spirit was alive in me, because the Bible became illuminated, and things were teaching me and talking to me, all kinds of stuff.

Well, let me say this to you. The preacher is the one that puts you under the water.

SPEAKER 04 : 12:21

Yeah.

SPEAKER 03 : 12:22

Okay, now Jesus is the one that’s going to baptize your spirit with Holy Spirit.

Oh.

SPEAKER 03 : 12:29

And did you ask him to do that?

SPEAKER 04 : 12:30

Yeah, I’ve been asking, but the only thing I asked the preacher that day was, you know, he said, you speak in tongues. And I said, well, is it supernatural? And he said, well, yeah, but I feel like I’m the one that’s doing it.

Well, that’s right. You use your mouth and your tongue. You use your lips, your mouth, and your tongue.

SPEAKER 04 : 12:50

Oh, I thought it was something to be supernatural.

SPEAKER 02 : 12:52

Oh, no, no. You use your lips, your mouth, and your tongue, just like you’re talking to us right now, except you turn off the English. I need to give you some scriptures. Do you have a pen?

Yeah, I got one right here.

SPEAKER 02 : 13:02

Okay. Matthew 3, 11. Now, this is where you’re talking of two baptisms. John’s talking here, and he says, As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance. Now, that’s what you went through. You went through under the water for repentance. But he, Jesus, who is coming after me, is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Okay, then you go to Acts. In the 8th chapter. And also write down 1 Corinthians 14. That’s the big chapter on tongues. As you read that, Holy Spirit will explain that to you. But in Acts 8, and it’s the 12th verse, Acts 8, 12. But when these people believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God in the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. That’s exactly what you went through, Mike, in water. And then even Simon was baptized because he saw all the signs and miracles. Well, when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John. And they came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. Now, they were already saved. They’ve already been dunked under the water, baptized. But then these two apostles came. and they were going to pray for the Holy Spirit to fall upon them, because he had not yet fallen upon any of them. They had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. So then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. This is the baptism of Holy Spirit. There’s two baptisms, and you’ll read that in Acts 8, 17. So your life has not just ended because you’ve been water baptized. It’s just beginning, brother. And there’s a whole bunch of new stuff.

It’s already changed so unbelievable.

Well, you just wait.

You just told me five or six months ago. You just, yeah. I never walked in a church before in my life. I was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness is what I was. I left when I went in the Marine Corps. My life, I was just tired of doing it on my own. It just fell apart. Yeah. I just give up one day, and boy, it’s been different ever since.

Good. Well, Mike, on New Year’s Eve, or I guess that’s when you got… December 31st, about 2 o’clock in the morning, I was coming out of Kansas City.

SPEAKER 04 : 15:22

I drive a truck.

SPEAKER 03 : 15:24

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER 04 : 15:24

And I never did listen to the radio or anything, and so I just had this powerful, powerful… I was just sitting there praying that I was sorry, you know, that my life was a mess. And the next thing you know, I had this powerful urge just to find a Christian radio station, which I’ve never done.

Right.

SPEAKER 04 : 15:39

And after I turned it on, I haven’t stopped. I read every night. I haven’t watched TV. I listen to Christian TV, radio. I go to church.

SPEAKER 03 : 15:48

So what did you do in your truck there? Did you ask God to forgive you?

SPEAKER 04 : 15:51

Well, initially what happened was I did after I started listening to the radio. But initially what happened, seeing my bringing up when I was a kid, we weren’t even allowed to do that, listen to Christian radio or anything.

SPEAKER 05 : 16:02

Right.

SPEAKER 04 : 16:03

And what initially happened was I was I was thinking of that show, believe it or not, The Ten Commandments.

SPEAKER 05 : 16:10

Sure.

SPEAKER 04 : 16:10

And I was thinking of that scene where Moses came down off the hill and they were partying and worshiping pagans, you know, and that partying scene. And I thought in my mind I didn’t want to do that anymore.

so you’ve been a party guy huh well yeah i drank a lot yeah okay and uh how old are you mike i’m just 40 almost 41 okay are you still driving truck yeah good yeah well we got a lot of truckers that listen because our signal goes clear out to almost to russell kansas on i-70 from denver oh yeah yeah i know i’ve

I’ve since then quit over the road and went local just so I could dedicate myself better.

Wonderful.

But like I said, I was thinking of that scene, and then I got that urge. And then, of course, after I listed a few radio deals, then I did. That’s how I did it.

That’s wonderful. Well, let me tell you, I can sense here in the studio that you are born again. I want to tell you that.

Oh, I never knew what that was. I always heard. And, you know, I’d always heard people. And it felt like I was always knocking at the door because I always knew, you know, God was there. But I would always see it in people’s faces, the people that were saved in that.

But I never really knew it yet.

And then after it happened, then I really knew that there was something to it.

SPEAKER 03 : 17:39

Well, you’ve got a runaway on your hands there, don’t you?

Oh, yeah. Oh, I can’t slow down. I’ve been trying to hold back. I’ve since got my wife involved in it, too. And everybody in the family, I’ve got two kids and a wife at home, and they think I just went off the deep end. But anyway, my wife is even going with me now, and she’s supposed to get baptized here in a couple weeks.

So she’s received the Lord Jesus as her Savior? Yes.

Yeah, she said she did. She don’t have it like I do.

SPEAKER 02 : 18:05

Well, no. Each one of us is different. We can’t judge anybody else.

You former Marines, you always do it the hard way.

So what’s the biggest change you’ve seen in your life since your salvation experience?

SPEAKER 04 : 18:18

Oh, you name it. There’s just absolutely everything. I mean, everything. You just name it. My life.

SPEAKER 02 : 18:27

Are you loving your wife more?

SPEAKER 04 : 18:29

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We’re fighting all the time, and we don’t do hardly any of that anymore. Every once in a while, I catch myself doing it, and I just stop, you know.

And how old are your children?

SPEAKER 04 : 18:37

I got one that’s married now. Oh. And I got one that’s just turned 16, and I got one 12.

Oh.

And we just got a youth pastor with the church that I’m going to, so I’m going to start getting them going, too.

Well, you’re going to get the whole… Everything’s turned around. My attitude, my life… It’s just incredible. I just never imagined. And I’ve got a long way to go. Like I said, I’m brand new in this. But it sure does feel good.

Yeah, the tongues part. When I first started this, because the tongues part scared me a little bit, because I’ve heard from too many people, like my family, like I said, I’ve got four sisters that’s baptized Jehovah’s Witnesses. Oh, okay. And they really think that I’m full of the devil with that tongue stuff, you know. But I’ve been reading it on my own, and I just don’t, you know, I just don’t see it. I believe what I read.

Well, read through the book of Acts. That’s a good book. Have you read a lot of the Bible in your life? No. Being a Jehovah’s Witness?

Until this happened that night, I never read anything. I tried to read it, but… I never understood anything. It was all just mumbled words to me.

Do you and your wife have Bibles, Mike?

We do now.

Man, I tell you, I love it when somebody comes in. They come on full bore, you know, as they say, we’ve got the pedal to the metal and we’re going to go for it. But you know God is just going to lead you, Mike, because you’ve got a sincere heart. I hope so.

Now I feel guilty because I’ve got… Raise the kids up without none of that.

Yeah, but you know something? There’s a scripture. I want to give it to you in the Old Testament. And sometimes we think, well, you know, I screwed things up. It can never be undone, all this kind of stuff. But in Job 22, verse 25, do you write that down? I’m sorry. I said the wrong. It’s in Joel.

It says, I’ll make up to you for the years that the swarming locusts have eaten. That’s talking about demons. The creeping locusts, the stripping locusts, the gnawing locusts. See, he says, I’m going to make up for the past. And I’ll tell you, when you’re turned on to Jesus like you are, he’s going to save your bacon and do some great things for your kids.

The more I get into this and the more he’s cleaning, the more I see how bad off I really was. I didn’t think I was all that bad.

You’re a bad, bad dude. We’ve all sinned and come short, very short of the glory of God. So we’re all in the same boat, Mike.

The one I’m working on the hardest right now is the Proverbs chapter. Three, five, and six was just trusting the Lord with all your heart. Oh, yes. He’ll direct you and all that. I’ve got that written down in front of me in a truck, and I try to go buy that.

That’s good. Oh, praise the Lord. I’ll tell you something. We want your address before we get out of here. Okay. And we’re going to send you some good stuff. Okay. I know that one day he’s going to be driving down the road and all of a sudden that prayer language is going to come right out, right in the cab of that truck. Or when he’s taking a shower or sometime. Lord, I declare that’s going to happen very soon. He’s going to get the confirmation that you did what you say you do in the word. The one we ask that you give it to us. And I thank you that Jesus has baptized this brother, this new Christian. And Lord, I praise you for this phone call today. This is so encouraging. Thank you, Lord. Now, I ask you to touch their finances. And as they begin to tithe, show them that your blessing is on their household financially. Bring those dollars in that they need. And I thank you for this continual program of cleaning up Mike’s life. The cussing is dropping off and all that stuff they used to do. Father God, you are cleaning this guy up, and that’s good news. And we thank you. And we’re proud to be called a brother with Mike here in the body of Christ. Amen.

Mike, hang on here. We’ll get your address. Get some good stuff in your hands. Okay, thank you. Okay, man. God bless. You know, we got a letter today, a man asking for the sinner’s prayer. He said, could you print out the sinner’s prayer and send it to me? And in the meantime, I want to tell you how easy it is to come to Jesus. You ask him to forgive your sins and everybody knows when they’ve sinned. You don’t have to somebody beat on your head and tell you how bad you are. You know that. And you can just simply say, God, I ask your forgiveness. I need a new heart. I need a fresh start. I’ve done some bad things. I want you to take all the sin away. And I confess that Jesus is Lord. I confess he is the son of the most high God.

And that he died and he rose again.

He died, he went to hell, he rose again, and he’s now alive in heaven. And he’s my attorney, my advocate. And see, you can say that prayer a lot of ways, but if you mean it in your heart and you say, I want to turn my back on the devil, that’s what Mike did.

You know, he got saved on New Year’s Eve. He just turned his back on the devil and said, man, and today he looks back and says, man, I didn’t realize how bad I was.

And the Lord has helped to take some bad habits away. You know, the Lord doesn’t want us to take them away before we come to him or be cleaned up when we come to him. He will help us get rid of the flesh and all that carnality and the junk when we receive him. We don’t have to be cleaned up before we come to him.

Well, yeah, but it’s got some other news. Surprise, surprise. You can’t clean yourself up.

Oh, well, that’s absolutely right.

You can say, now I’m going to use willpower here. Let me tell you, folks, there’s no power in the will. If you don’t discipline your heart in the word of God, you don’t have anything going for you on your own. And you will make all those great plans to change your life, and you will fail every time. You’ve got to have something bigger than you are, and that’s Jesus. And I’ll tell you, when he comes into your heart, your life will change. I love to talk to people like Mike. That just blesses me.
