In this insightful episode, we delve into the understanding of God’s will through prayer as described in scripture. Darren quotes passages from 1 John and Deuteronomy, emphasizing the importance of asking within God’s will to receive His blessings. This episode also highlights the covenant God offers and the necessity of doing things His way without shortcuts to experience true divine provision.

SPEAKER 03 :
On this encore show, Darren begins the program by quoting 1 John 5, 14 and 15. This is the confidence we have before Him that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him. What is important about this scripture is that not only does God hear your requests and answers them, but you must be in the will of God when asking. Darren reminds the listening audience of the blessing contract in Deuteronomy 28.1. The Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth and all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you will obey the Lord your God. It’s so important that you do it God’s way, that you don’t take shortcuts to get to God’s heart. Now let’s join the program. Yes, it’s good to have you with us.
SPEAKER 02 :
Some of you have a praise report, too. And I’ve been after this one gal to give us a praise report. She promised me she’d be on the air tomorrow. She’s going to call in. Her name is Teresa. Yes, Teresa. So you better start praying for St. Teresa that she’ll give us a call. She has a marvelous praise report. We’re going to have that at the top of the show tomorrow. I’m believing by faith.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 02 :
If she doesn’t, I’m going to call her.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, okay.
SPEAKER 02 :
I know where she works.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, Teresa, if you’re listening, if you don’t call in, Darren will call you.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, Teresa, you’d be in big trouble. Okay, well, we’re going to have a wonderful show today, and we’re going to have some scripture for you. I love the scripture in 1 John 5, 14 and 15. I quote this often. Barbara just slumps down and says, Yeah, you do, but it is a wonderful faith scripture, and it says this, And this is the confidence that we have before him, That if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. If he hears us, we know we have those requests we’ve made of him. God makes every provision for us to be confident in his presence. So we can pray with confidence knowing that if he hears us, he answers us.
SPEAKER 03 :
And what would be an example of God didn’t hear you?
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, if you’re praying, for example, I’ve had some people say, well, you know, I’m dating this gal and she’s still married. And, uh-oh. And I really hope she gets divorced. In fact, we’re both praying that she’ll get divorced so that we can get married. I think that’s praying against the will of God because you’re praying for somebody else’s wife or somebody else’s husband. That would be an example. I believe a prayer God wouldn’t hear because that’s not within his will. Or I’m lusting after. No, they wouldn’t say that. That’s right. Somebody else has a house. I just want that house. I believe I deserve that house more than they do. And so I’m praying that they’ll move in and then sell it at a bargain basement price so I can buy it. Yeah, because I just believe that would be a great place for me to have prayer meetings. And hey, come on, guys. God wouldn’t honor that. That belongs to somebody else. And it says, don’t lust or envy. or desire someone else’s property. That’s in the Ten Commandments. Don’t do that. Don’t envy.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you say, oh, I don’t do that. Well, whatever you talk about, for the most part, every day, the thing that fills your day, your conversation every day, that’s the thing you love. That’s the thing that you desire, you long for, you’re filled up with longing for.
SPEAKER 02 :
Excuse me.
SPEAKER 03 :
Go ahead. Well, and as a born again believer in Yeshua and in Jesus Christ, you should be filling up on his words and the word every day.
SPEAKER 02 :
Now, this says here, if you diligently obey the Lord, your God, being careful to do all his commandments, which I command you today, the Lord, your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. Now that’s Deuteronomy 28.1. If you want to know God’s blessing package, and He’s saying, I’ve got a deal for you, okay? He doesn’t say it in those words, I would. But He’s saying, take a look at Deuteronomy 28, and take the first 14 verses, and you’ll find out He wants to bless the work of your hands. He doesn’t want you to be a borrower. He wants you to be a lender. He’s going to bless you in the country and in the city. He’s going to bless your kids and the offspring of your animals. In other words, your business is going to take on some longevity. It’s going to get established. He wants to bless you. So get it out and read it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you know, Jesus kind of condensed it down into two commandments. All 600 of these rules and regulations that we see in the first five books of the Old Testament, Jesus gave two. He said that this is the foremost commandment of all, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and your soul and your might. And the second… is as unto the first, to love your neighbor as yourself. And your neighbor is that person that you come across, that one who is thirsty, that one who is hungry. That’s our calling. The Holy Spirit has anointed us to open prison doors, to take care of those who are in need. And so he kind of condensed everything down into two commandments. Praise the Lord.
SPEAKER 02 :
You need to love your neighbor as yourself. That’s right. For sure.
SPEAKER 03 :
And, you know, in Ephesians it says, Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. And I know sometimes that’s really hard. It is very hard in the circumstances that you’re in to love that person. Sometimes that you’re closest to, that’s the hardest thing of all. You can love your friend at work or you can love the… the buddy that you drive to work with and other things, but to get back home and love that person that you’re closest to is the hardest, but that’s the command of the Lord. And as we do it in the Lord, that means ask Him for the love. Ask Him for that agape love that Jesus had for the church and He died for it. Then God will pour that into you. I really truly believe that. If we have a desire to serve God in that way, He will give it to us.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. So here it is again. I want you to take a look at the blessing contract. God calls it a covenant. It’s another word for contract, but it’s found in Deuteronomy chapter 28. And other portions of Deuteronomy, even in Genesis. Get acquainted with those first five books of the Bible. Find out the foundations here of what we really believe. And God revealed himself continually of every expanding revelation through Scripture. But Jesus Christ came to fulfill that blood covenant for us. and he took the curses on himself, so those blessings of Abraham might flow right through Jesus, who was a seed of Abraham, one seed, and they would flow right through to the born-again believer. You need to know that. Some of you are short-cutting. You’re trying to take other shortcuts to being financially secure. We hear about it. We hear about people writing checks they shouldn’t have written, people lying, people getting into some real serious problems legally. Because they didn’t trust God to be their provider. They tried to do a shortcut. And it won’t work. It just won’t work. And if you’ve done that, repent and ask God to forgive you, first of all, for not trusting Him to be your provider. Secondly, for trying to do it in the flesh. And thirdly, trying to do it in some dishonest fashion. You just can’t do that. And God will honor your repentance. And he’s not going to lock you in forever if you did something stupid or something wrong. He’s not out there to just say, well, I can’t ever trust you again. You never find that in scripture. He’s always there to forgive you, pick you up, fix you up, straighten you up and get you going. And I’ll tell you, what a loving, giving Heavenly Father we have. He always wants to give us another chance.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right. In Jeremiah 18, we read this Tuesday night in class, how Jeremiah was told to go to the potter’s house. And as he entered the potter’s house, he saw the potter at the wheel. And the vessel that he had had been spoiled. So he threw it down and he made another vessel. And you may say, man, I have goofed up so much in my life. I’ve sinned so much. It’s not even worth anything. Well, God sees that. And what he’s going to do is he’s going to take the heart of you and he’s going to remold you. And it may be painful for a while, but God has your very best interest in mind. He really does. And he’s going to redo you. Now that is if you have a willing heart for that. Now if you have a stubborn and a willful and a prideful heart and you say, no, I like it just the way it is, God can’t do that. But if you give up your will to him like Jesus says, not my will but yours be done, Father God, in the Garden of Gethsemane, God is just going to take that and just… take that old vessel that didn’t hold very much, and he’s going to make a big pitcher out of you or something that can just be filled up and overflow to your friends and your family. And I believe people around you are going to see the change. I really do. I want to say this to you.
SPEAKER 02 :
We know many people that have gone through, I mean, really, really, really hard times. I mean, they were down to where they practically didn’t have any food in the house, couldn’t pay the rent. I mean, the story goes on and on. And this is not just one time, but many. And the ones that took this scripture to heart in Psalm 119, verse 71, and it says this, it is good for me that I was afflicted that I might learn thy statutes. Now, when you’re in the deep doo-doo, folks. I mean, you’re in real problems. You don’t know how you’re going to get out of your sin, maybe cynically. God, how in the world can you use this mess? I’m in such a mess. I’m in so much pain. I’m in so much grief. I’m in so much trouble. And you’re telling me you’re going to get some glory out of this and that I’m going to be a better person if I ever get out of this rat hole? Well, if you’ll turn to the Lord. And repent and say, take all the iniquities out of my heart, Lord. And go over to Hebrews chapter 10 and about verse 19 through 23. And where he said, sprinkle my evil conscience with the blood of Jesus. Take away the iniquities out of my heart. And if you say to him, Lord, I don’t even know what iniquities are in my heart. And see, we really don’t know. We don’t have privilege to be able to take our hearts out and examine it and all that stuff. God’s the only one that can examine the heart and come out with a truth report. But ask him to cleanse your heart, the inner man of the heart, your deepest conscience, your most private thought life, your deepest motives. Say, God, I just, there’s something wrong. I keep attracting failure. I keep attracting problems. I keep getting into messes. Lord, cleanse my heart because I realize now that I’m the problem. I’m the one that’s causing this or I’m attracting this. I don’t want to continue this failure loop and this spiral down, down, down. God, if you can use something in this mess here to make me a better person, please do it and do it now. And I’m going to stop thrashing around and blaming God and everybody else. I’m going to say, God, fix me. Now, when you do that with sincerity, God will reach down and begin you on your way to recovery.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 02 :
It may not come by tomorrow morning. It may not come in 30 days. But if you’ll throw in with God everything you’ve got and take everything He has, you’ll be a winner.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right. Praise God. Our number here is area code 303-433-8000. I was just looking to comment on what you’re talking about, Darren. In Hebrews 12, He’s talking about the son whom He loves. He disciplines and He corrects. And He says, “…My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord.” nor faint when you are reproved by him. For those whom the Lord loves, he disciplines and he scourges or beats. That word beats is in here. Every son whom he receives, it is for discipline that you endure. And one of the greatest hindrances to growth nowadays, even in the secular media, Darren, is that we don’t have to hit our children anymore or beat our children. And I know that sounds almost, oh, back.
SPEAKER 02 :
Sounds barbaric.
SPEAKER 03 :
Barbaric, yes, back in the old ages and dark ages. But here it says that when we do discipline our children, when God does discipline us, it is a discipline that we can endure because the end result is so good. It goes on to say, God deals with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? See, in the days when Paul or the writer of Hebrews wrote this, discipline was a normal way of life. If somebody did something wrong, they were disciplined. Nowadays, it is totally being turned around. You do something wrong, you say, I’m not guilty, and they take you through the process of what they call law, and you may get out scot-free for something that you did. But in the day that this was written, that was not so. Fathers did discipline their sons. But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. And, Darren, we’ve got a lot of that in this day and age. We’ve got illegitimate children.
SPEAKER 02 :
I believe it’s the King James that used the word bastard at that point. Yes. You know, I knew a man one time that was in the, well, he was with another man, and this other man’s child was absolutely a total mess. And this godly man said to this other Christian, he said, why are you raising a bastard child?
SPEAKER 05 :
Ooh.
SPEAKER 02 :
and took this man to the scripture, really brought accountability to the situation, saying, why are you raising a child without discipline? Why do you let him sass you?
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 02 :
Why haven’t you disciplined? Look what you’re going to answer for to the Lord for not disciplining your child. Pretty strong words.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not only to the Lord, the father and the mother. If they don’t discipline their children, they are going to lose in the end. They’re going to read great judgment on themselves, not just their son and daughter.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me tell you, discipline when they’re young or you’ll spend the rest of your life raising them. You don’t want to do that.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 02 :
One thing I’ll tell you, I just bless God that with our five kids, Barb. They’re adult children. Now, they haven’t been perfect kids. Nobody has perfect kids. And we don’t have perfect kids. Well, I’ll tell you one thing. We’re not spending the rest of our lives raising them, and that’s great freedom. Wonderful freedom.
SPEAKER 03 :
We can go on with the ministry that God has called us to do. And that’s what we desire for you, to go on with a greater thing that God has called you to do. In verse 9 it says, Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them, or we’re supposed to respect them. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father’s spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time. That is, our earthly fathers, when they discipline us, they discipline us for a short time. as seems best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, and that’s true. When you do get a spanking, when you do get beaten by your dad, it is not fun. But there are those who have been trained by it, and afterwards it yields peaceful fruit of righteousness. That’s what our goal is, righteousness, Darren. Right.
SPEAKER 02 :
Now, I think one of the things that we have here is that people, spanking brings things to closure. You spank the kid for what he did wrong. But then don’t keep nagging him about it. You brought it to closure, and the kid can get up and receive forgiveness of sorts and go on.
SPEAKER 03 :
I bet I can guarantee a mother or father that just yells at your kid and says, You’re going to get it. You’re going to get it. You’re going to get it. They’re going to get it in the end because the kid will never follow after them in respect and honor.
SPEAKER 02 :
Exactly. Exactly. We ought to keep our word to our kids. Yes. Let’s talk to John. How are you doing, John?
SPEAKER 04 :
Pretty good. How are you doing today?
SPEAKER 02 :
Good.
SPEAKER 04 :
Good. I’m very inspired by your radio program there. Every day you always have something… of God that tends to bless me.
SPEAKER 02 :
Thank you. Oh, good. We try, brother.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, amen. I’ve heard you in the past, too, as well, way back when you had Darren’s Coffee Shop. Oh, yes, I drank a lot of coffee, I’ll tell you. Well, great. Well, I had a quick question. I’ve had a word in the past, and I know God’s called me to be a businessman, and it seems like we’ve been, my wife and I both, you know, my wife understands the calling that we have on our lives, and It seems like it’s such a struggle to get to that point. I know there’s patience that’s built up as you walk with the Lord and et cetera and allow him to… Now, you mean patience until the business is successful? Until it’s successful or whatever avenue that God tends to take us down. And that’s the hardest part. And, you know, it’s like I’ve got a few scriptures that I tend to lean on, but yet sometimes I feel like we’re in the midst of like, well, are we rushing this too much? I mean, is there too much… What’s the word I want to use? Are we missing it? I guess that’s my biggest key. I just don’t want to miss it.
SPEAKER 03 :
You won’t if you’re following after God. You won’t miss it. Right. What are the scriptures that you’re standing on?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I’ve got Psalms 112, and then I’ve got the Ephesians, it’s chapter 3, the last verse of chapter 3, it says, unto him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly in all things.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, praise God. Those are good ones.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, and then the other one that I always look at is Jeremiah 3, 33, 3, you know, where it says, call upon him and he shall show you great and mighty things, things that have been hidden to you. You know, and I know as a Christian that he desires this, especially if he’s called you into helping the finances of the kingdom of God. He really wants to bless, you know, bless you. I mean, like Abraham, and you look at all these different, you know, even Paul. I mean, I felt that Paul was very, very blessed.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me ask you this. Are you a tither?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes. It was very difficult for many years because I wasn’t, you know, I think my wife kept telling me, Marvy, you need to give me your first fruits, and it was very difficult in the very beginning.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, we need to pay these bills, but yet… I began to finally start understanding that over the past year or so.
SPEAKER 03 :
Do you have other partners in the business besides your wife?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, it’s just pretty much me right now, and I rely on a lot of subcontractors that help out a lot.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me give you some specific scriptures on blessing. You heard us talking about Genesis 28? Uh-huh.
SPEAKER 03 :
Or Deuteronomy 28.
SPEAKER 02 :
I’m sorry, Deuteronomy 28. If you will go back and study how God spoke to Abraham… Okay. And how he laid out the covenant. He said, if you do certain things, then I’ll do certain things. And then I would look at the balance of Deuteronomy 28 from verse 15 on and see if there are any curses operating. Right. And if there are, those need to be broken. Okay. Then I would go to Deuteronomy 28 and 18, which is, I’m sorry, Deuteronomy 8. And have you got a pencil there? Okay, I would memorize, if I were you and you feel like you’re called to be, you know, a money man in the kingdom of God, I’d take Deuteronomy 8.18. Okay. It says, Now, I would get the revelation on that scripture. that God had given you the power to make wealth. And he wants to do that to show that he’s confirming the covenant. Then I would take, in the New Testament, I would take 2 Corinthians 8, or excuse me, chapter 8, verse 9, and it says, Jesus Christ became poor that you might become rich. And those words mean exactly what they say there in the Greek and, of course, in the English. Then the next chapter, 2 Corinthians 9, I’d begin at verse 6 and I’d take it through about verse 13. It talks about giving. It talks about God’s favor. It talks about, in verse 10, about God multiplying the seed. And you get that concept in your heart that God wants to bless you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Exactly. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay, and then I take Romans 8, 17. I’m just pulling these off the top of my heart, but it says that you’re a joint heir with Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2, 6 says you’re raised up and seated with Jesus in the heavenly places.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. Isaiah 48, verse 17 says… That’s a good one. the lord your redeemer the holy one of israel i am the lord your god who teaches you to profit who leads you in the way you should go and you know you have a special calling there and you and your wife and so he’s going to teach you in the way that you should go he really is exactly i know you know because i would have to hold true to a lot of these scriptures there because the fact that you know it’s like you know you start getting ahead you see all kinds of things and it’s like
SPEAKER 04 :
operating in the flesh versus operating in the spirit. That’s the hardest thing, because the fact is, like, come up with an idea, and it’s like, oh, yeah, I can do that. I can do that. I go, God, have you told me to do it, that you’ll walk with me side by side and allow it to happen? And, you know, I come up with all these different ideas. Of course, different business proposals are always thrown at me in regards to even changing the profession I’m in, and whether maybe God might do that, and I have to be sensitive to that. But it gets very, very tough, because it’s like, God, you know, it’s like, okay, you know, I just need to continue to stand firm. I mean, you know, because I’ve got an idea right now that might work, but yet I’m not sure if it’s God or if it’s me. And, you know, and then you look at your business and think, okay, God, I’m going to make this more profitable, be a good steward with what I deal with, but yet I also want to make sure that it’s your will.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me give you two scriptures.
SPEAKER 03 :
It sounds like he’s got a good hold on it.
SPEAKER 02 :
You’ve got a good hold on it. The only thing is I haven’t heard you give me specific scriptures that are operational in terms of your business.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
So you give me general scriptures, and the ones I’ve given you are specific. That’s not that I’m trying to say I’m a better hot dog than you are. I’m just saying if you’re going to get specific results, you need to stand on specific scriptures. I would take 1 Corinthians 1.30 every day and say, Jesus, you’re made unto me wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, redemption. And 1 Corinthians 2.16 says you have the mind of Christ. I would say every day I have the mind of Christ, therefore I know exactly what to do.
SPEAKER 04 :
Got it. Well, you know, that’s one thing I do appreciate about your power pack. In the years I’ve moved so many times, I’ve lost them. In fact, I’m going to have to get another set of those from you. Because they helped me quite a few years. And then, you know, it’s like you get so caught up in our daily activities. Like, are we still before the Lord to be able to get these specific words that would allow us just to be able to focus on what God really wants to.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, I’ll tell you, you stay on the line. We’ll get your address. We’ll get a new set in your hands. In fact, we’ll send you one for you and one for your wife. How’s that?
SPEAKER 04 :
That’d be great.
SPEAKER 02 :
And what part of the world do you live in?
SPEAKER 04 :
We live out just south of Parker.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Great country.
SPEAKER 02 :
Beautiful area. Yeah, we enjoy that a lot. Well, let’s pray. Okay, thank you. Father God, I pray and ask that your mighty wisdom would be on our friend in his business, in his marriage, in everything he puts his hand to. Lord, you say in Deuteronomy chapter 28 that you will bless everything we put our hand to. That means that this is a day the Lord has made, and you don’t plan for us to have any losers. Mm-hmm. And I thank you, Father, we can get the devil out of our business, out of our minds. We can meditate the word of God. It can become active and vital and sharper than a two-edged sword on our lips. And, Father, I thank you for Zachariah 4-7 that says we can shout grace to the mountain. Grace to the mountain. Now, Lord, I ask that you would take our friend here and pull him right through the veil into that wonderful revelation knowledge that he so desperately desires. In Jesus’ name, amen.
SPEAKER 05 :
I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 02 :
Amen. Hang on. We’ll get your address. Thank you. Appreciate the call. Okay, we’ll get that gentleman’s address, and we’ll go to Francis. Line 2, how are you?
SPEAKER 06 :
Hi, real quick. I just ran into the central revelation for your ministry, and it’s fabulous. You know how you talk about fear being the enemy’s secret weapon? I have run into, over and over and over again, something I call the stricture of Joshua, Joshua 1, 8, and 9. That’s right. And, I mean, this thing is literally all over the place. Every book in the Bible mentions this thing. Every time God shows up, the first thing he says is, do not be afraid. That’s right. And I’ve also been studying, you know how critics say the Bible is a book of do’s and don’ts? Well, every time, see, I mark out what the Bible says to do and not to do. And every time the Bible says not to do something, it’s not even a proactive behavior. It’s a lack of a behavior. It’s, for example, a lack of truth when you’re lying. Or a lack of, again, a lack of courage and courage. This is absolutely amazing. I used to think you guys were very little more than a sanctified witchcraft, but now I’ve got the revelation.
SPEAKER 05 :
Sanctified witchcraft?
SPEAKER 02 :
Say that again. That’s great.
SPEAKER 06 :
Sanctified witchcraft.
SPEAKER 02 :
Why did you think we were that?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, there seemed to be a lot behind… I thought it was an idolatry to use all the various memorial markers. I’ve been following you since the coffee shop days, and I just had not gotten the revelation yet. Praise God.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, I’m glad you did.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me ask you this, Frances, and I’m not saying this to put you down. If you’ve listened to me this many years, you know where I’m coming from here. But what changed your mind? Where was the turning point in your life?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, it’s funny because I actually had to meet and interact with an actual witch for a while before my mind was changed about that. And then I realized that we’re Where God has put symbols together, it’s because we are hardwired to need them.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay, let me ask you this, Francis. We’re out of time. Is there any way you’d call me back tomorrow? Oh, sure. I’d like to hear from you. Man, we’re just getting into something good here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
Would you do that?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
Call me back. I want to talk to you. Yes, I will. We’re going to take a phone call right at the top of the show, but right after that, I’d like to hear from you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Okay. All right. All right.
SPEAKER 02 :
Hang on. We’ll get your vitals here. Well, I think we’ve got his vitals. Oh, you think so? Yeah, we’ve got his vitals. Okay, Francis. He’s sending me tape.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, good to talk to you, Francis.
SPEAKER 02 :
Call us back, brother.
