Yeah. No excuse. I guess we’ll see. OK, so speaking of this better be good. I didn’t think we would have to do this two weeks in a row because I know, Neil, you had brought up last week the Trump ballroom and all of what’s going on there. And I can’t believe it. Even Bob and I before the podcast were talking, you know, this thing, the Democrats are not letting this thing go. And there’s so much misinformation now. But I do want to start with this. And I think, Bob, I’ll start with you because I think you’ll relate to this as much as anyone. Neil will, too. But you’ll relate to this really well. The biggest mistake, again, that our side is making in all of this is messaging. We should have been on the front side of this. We should have had a full bore ad running talking about the savings that this is actually going to be to the American public. I mean, I can go through all of the things that this actually does at the end of the day to save the taxpayers money. And yet none of that, none of that has been mentioned up to this point, which drives me nuts, Bob.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, I’ll tell you what, John, I get it. You know, you and I very much agree about the bad job that Republicans do in messaging. But there comes a point, honestly, when you have to look at something and go, should they really have had to be out in front of this? This is Democrats creating fake outrage about anything that they can possibly try to scandalize. And, John, it just drives me nuts. They do this all the time.
SPEAKER 04 :
They do. But since they do, why don’t we hit it off right on the front side? You know what?
SPEAKER 06 :
I get that. But here’s what I don’t want to have happen. I don’t want to make so much of a focus on here’s where the Republicans mismanaged the messaging of this. They should have got out of it early on. And then before you know it, we end up giving the Democrats a pass on their absolute hypocritical dishonesty here, their fake outrage. A perfect example, Eric Swalwell. Congressman Eric Swalwell, he posts that’s a litmus test for any Democrats wanting to run for president. They have to pledge to destroy, take a wrecking ball to the ballroom on day one of their presidency. So here’s what I would love for some non-corrupt journalist to actually ask him. If future presidents have an obligation to tear down White House additions or renovations from previous presidents, can’t you argue that’s exactly what Trump’s doing, tearing down FDR’s East Wing? OK, that wasn’t part of the original White House. And should other presidents do that, too? OK. Should the president right after James Monroe have torn down his rounded entrance with the columns? That wasn’t part of the original. Or Teddy Roosevelt’s West Wing in his East Terrace? Should that have been torn down? Or his swimming pool? Or Harry Truman’s huge family balcony, which is named the Truman Balcony, by the way? That’s been used by all presidents until now. And you can go on down the line. Richard Nixon’s bowling alley, Obama’s basketball court, Howard Taft’s Oval Office itself. What if Trump had created a brand new office for the president? Everybody would be going crazy. That wasn’t part of the original. How about Calvin Coolidge’s entire third floor addition to the White House? Should all of these have been torn down by the very next president? Here’s Trump giving a gift to future presidents and to the people so we don’t have to put up big, ugly, temporary tents on the grounds. And he’s paying for it out of his own pocket with other private donors. This is fake news. outrage from the left. And that makes my eye twitch. I understand what you’re saying about the branding and the messaging for the Republicans, but it just makes my eye twitch that Democrats get away with this nonsense.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, and I can’t disagree with that on the same token. And Neil, you’ll probably relate to this. I do feel like there’s better ways to communicate what we’re doing and why. And I get everything, Bob, that you just said. I fully understand that. I’m not giving them a pass at all because they’re a bunch of wackadoodles. I have no other, but a bunch of Marxists. Let’s just say it. Let’s say it for what it is. They’re a bunch of Marxists. They continue to prove that over and over again. Yeah. Knuckleheads. Exactly. But, but on the same token, Neil, you know, you look at, and this is the stuff that just frustrates me right now. You look at what the actual cotton, because they’re all talking about how, You know, it’s for him and his big donors and this, that, and the other. And at the end of the day, this is a huge tax savings to the American public when it’s all said and done. Because right now, all of the events that we hold were either, to Bob’s point, we’re adding tents. We’re doing something along those lines. Security measures change. We’re going off campus. All sorts of things along those lines.
SPEAKER 06 :
Dignitaries have to use porta-potties, Ron, right now when they have a state dinner.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. I mean, you look at all of that. Number one, it’s embarrassing. Number two, the cost side of it is huge to do everything we’re talking about. And if you go off site with the president ever, we know we already know what that amount of money adds up to. So, Neil, at the end of the day, I mean, to me, all I’m asking is we could have done a little better job on the front side talking about that side of things and not giving the I guess you could say given the Democrats some of the ammo they have.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, some of the ammo. I mean, basically they handed them the microphone. You know, I mean, the reality is that if you just start building, you start the wrecking ball situation and you just start building without any forewarning, then you’ve handed the microphone to the Democrats to say whatever they want about it. There was no… preliminary messaging and yeah Bob you make good points I’m not totally against what you’re saying but I think as we’ve often said here sometimes it’s possible to hold two truths in balance because people gain confidence when they feel like they understand what’s happening when when there’s some reason behind what’s going on there’s a lot of reason why this is a good move and why it’s probably going to be appreciated for decades or centuries although no one on the left is ever going to admit that. So, you know, all of it good in that sense, but not the fact that the Democrats are able to use this messaging the way that they are. I mean, they literally have taken a wrecking ball to the idea of the project because we handed them the microphone. And I don’t think it’s smart. Colin Levy, by the way, in the Wall Street Journal wrote an op-ed piece, said we now live in a democracy in which the president is with neither public notice nor permission demolished part of the white house and no one tried to stop him. The white house isn’t private property. It is quaintly and truly the people’s house paid for by taxpayers and enduring over centuries. Well, some of what he’s saying there is true, but if you get ahead of that by explaining what’s going on and why it’s necessary and how the taxpayers are going to benefit and for what reason this is happening, whether people agree with you or not, you don’t need their permission. at least throw it out there on the front end. And I think that is a mistake that Republicans made on this one or conservatives made. Yeah. Neil, you know what, though?
SPEAKER 06 :
There is… Let me just devil’s advocate for a moment. It is possible. It is possible that Trump… And the Republicans, but especially led by Trump, deliberately didn’t want to get out in front of this and deliberately didn’t want to front sell the need for this, but instead deliberately wanted to hand the microphone to the Democrats and see if they make an issue out of this because they know they’d be able to come back and expose the Democrats for being petty and say, well, then why didn’t we have this attitude about previous presidents that make renovations to the White House? Presidents do that all the time. I mean, even the liberal left-wing Washington Post, their editorial board this week wrote a piece complimenting Trump for doing this and criticizing the Democrats. And they themselves pointed out this is something needed to be done. You shouldn’t be having dignitaries using – porta-potties, and previous presidents do stuff like this all the time. Trump isn’t doing anything wrong. If anything else, he’s doing something that’s needed. This is the editorial board of the Washington Post that just said this. Part of me thinks that Trump even told people, no, no, no, no, let’s troll the Democrats. Let’s egg them on to see if we can get them to make an issue out of this, because then we can counterplay, look how stupid and petty the Democrats are being about something that is smart and necessary and good to be done. So I Well, I think it’s possible that Trump deliberately did not want to get in front of this to make it like he was doing some big thing that he had to get the approval of the American public for. One thing really quick.
SPEAKER 04 :

I was just going to say, either he plays chess four moves ahead of the opponent, which is probably true, or we’ll find out at the midterm election because – The American people need to have some level of confidence that they matter, like that, that it matters that they understand what’s going on in our country and that things aren’t just happening. You know, in other words, the mainstream media and the Democrats have painted him as the power broker, the dictator, you know, this guy who comes in and he’s accountable to no one, whatever happened to the, you know. balance of power in Washington, D.C., blah, blah, blah. If that’s what they feel when they go to the polls, then it could cost them in the midterm elections.
SPEAKER 06 :
Obama didn’t ask our permission to build a full-size basketball court. He didn’t ask our permission for that.
SPEAKER 05 :
But he had the mainstream media cheering him on. It didn’t matter what he did. This is the exact opposite scenario.
SPEAKER 06 :
Let’s expose the Democrats for their hypocrisy.

At the end of the day, yes, this is needed. It’s being paid for, by the way, with private donations. Yes, there’ll probably be still some cost to the taxpayer when it’s all said and done. But whatever that cost is, it’s going to be absorbed by the savings over the next decades. And by the way, it could be 100 years, depending on how long the country tarries that this thing stands. At the end of the day, Bob, we’re going to get more than enough use out of it. It’ll more than pay for itself when it’s all said

And can I just say one more thing about this, too? The East Wing, this is not part of the original White House.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, it is not.
SPEAKER 06 :
This was built in the 1940s. That’s right. There was no East Wing before the 1940s. That’s right. This was added by FDR, and the East Wing was still built 80 years ago, and it needs to be rebuilt. So Trump isn’t getting rid of the West Wing. He’s renovating the West Wing. He’s rebuilding the East Wing. He’s rebuilding the East Wing. in a renovated way and making it bigger than it was before so that it can house a ballroom so dignitaries don’t need to use porta-potties. And he’s paying for it out of his pocket.
SPEAKER 04 :
Give me a break. And I’m guessing that, you know, one of the other things that might be involved here, maybe why the price tag has changed, which we don’t know because these are the things they won’t tell anybody. You know, are the bunkers being expanded? Is there more things being done security measure wise with some of this, Bob? And again, some of that you cannot make public. So bottom line is there’s probably things there that we don’t need to know. And no American does, by the way, because that that information gets leaked out to others. But at the end of the day, I’m guessing it’s not just a ballroom, Bob.
SPEAKER 06 :
It probably is not. And there probably are national security things that they can’t reveal. And these Democrats, at least some of them, they know this.
SPEAKER 04 :
They know that. That’s right.
SPEAKER 06 :
So, you know, whatever. This is a gift. By the way, Trump very likely will not even be able to use this ballroom for himself. He might, but if he doesn’t get it done in time, this is a gift for future presidents, for the American people, for dignitaries around the world. And he pays for it out of his pocket with some other private donors.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, maybe during his third presidency, he will.
SPEAKER 06 :
He actually ended the trolling of that, which is a shame. I wish he wouldn’t have done this because he has been trolling the media and the Democrats by tossing. I don’t know. Let me get some Trump 2028 hats here and toss into people in the Oval Office. OK, he is great at trolling. But reporter reporters asked him again, what about third term? He goes, you know, I’m not allowed to run. OK, it’s like, oh, not going to happen. I shoot. I wish he would have. I wish he would have kept on trolling them.
SPEAKER 05 :
So I don’t know what you just said reminded me of this, but I got to say this. You know, the left, the libs love to paint whatever picture they want to paint. And usually it’s not an accurate one. Here’s an example. We heard for a period of time from a lot of people saying, oh, look, this is Trump. He says it’s his main priority. And, you know, we’ve got we’ve got the government shut down right now. And this isn’t this is his main priority is he’s building this gilded ballroom. Well, here’s the exact transaction or, you know, what transpired. A reporter asked Caroline Levitt, in addition to the ballroom and the Rose Garden patio, is the president looking at any other renovations or significant kinds of projects here at the White House? Honestly, maybe hinting at the question of, you know, bunkers and things that are necessary for security. But anyway, that was the question. Caroline Levitt’s response. Not to my knowledge. No, he’s a builder at heart, clearly. And so his heart and his mind is always churning about how to improve things here on the White House grounds. But at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the president’s main priority. Yeah, he’s not looking at fixing the Rose Garden or repairing the hoops on the basketball court that Obama put in. This project is his main priority. Not main priority for all, you know, defense issues and other things addressed or, you know, affecting our nation. I just think it’s unbelievable how the mainstream media takes these things and runs with them as though it’s the gospel truth.
SPEAKER 06 :
By the way, Neil, can I tell you, even PolitiFact, liberal left-wing PolitiFact, fact-checked this from Hakeem Jeffries, from Chuck Schumer, from the Democrats in general about Caroline Leavitt supposedly saying this is his number one priority. Even PolitiFact said this is a false claim. This is misleading. She was asked specifically in the context of renovations at the White House, and her answer was this is his top priority of the renovations at the White House. So even PolitiFact is calling out the Democrats for this level of dishonesty.
SPEAKER 04 :
It says something right there. All right. Moving into speaking of, I don’t know if you want to call this dishonest. Well, it is the whole government shutdown, what the Democrats are doing. They’re being very dishonest on their side, claiming it’s our side that’s actually causing the shutdown. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There’s now, of course, you know, snap benefits and some things along those lines could potentially end. I’ve seen some different things that listeners have sent me. I’ve not looked this stuff up myself, but just things that have come my way on supposedly. And again, I, Whether these are conspiratorial or not, I don’t know. Supposedly, potentially some retaliation from SNAP benefit users on folks leaving the grocery store where they may be loaded up with their groceries. The SNAP benefits, of course, may end for some. And at that point in time, they’re supposedly again, I don’t know if this is true or not, but I think this is one of those things to be very. careful of if in fact this does happen supposedly there’s a movement where snap benefit folk will be in parking lots basically trying to abscond your groceries as you leave the grocery store guys bob i’ll let you talk first i uh oh boy i hate to say it but with left wingers i wouldn’t be a bit surprised i wouldn’t either because left part of the left-wing ideology is i’m entitled to whatever someone oh i bob i’ve seen some of them i’ve seen some of videos where some of these ladies especially because typically it’s not always women that are on snap but there’s a lot of women with babies on snap in fact i think that’s the wake-up call for americans is 40 million americans on programs along those lines which is absolutely by the way ridiculous i’ll get that we’re meant to be temporary Yeah, they were meant to be temporary. You might get into more of that here in the second half. But right now, you know, Bob, these are people that frankly shouldn’t be on it, in my opinion. In a lot of cases, we can get into the details of that a little later. But there are some of these people literally that are on camera, literally, and I don’t think they’re joking when they say this. It is your job as a taxpayer to feed my kids. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a video saying that in the last few days.
SPEAKER 06 :
It is a sick Marxist mentality that people have. But this is a lot of what the left pushes, okay? It’s this kind of resentment, envy kind of politics of look to somebody who has something that you don’t and see that as injustice.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Economic injustice, social injustice, and therefore you have a right to take what they have. We do this with illegal immigration. Hey, you have a right to take land in this country. Go ahead and come here illegally. Take what you want. Go ahead and take whatever benefits you want. This is a left-wing mentality. And so the SNAP program, suddenly who’s the boogeyman? the person who’s actually going to work, paying their bills, buying groceries, which, by the way, pays for the salaries of the people that work in the grocery store where some of these people are just too lazy to go get a job in the first place. I’m not saying everybody, but a lot of people are just too lazy to go get a job. They don’t want to, and so they choose to live off the government because we make it easy. We enable laziness in this country.
SPEAKER 04 :
We do. We do. Well, and, Neil, really quick, there’s a sense of entitlement, as I just said a moment ago, where there’s some of these people out saying, You as a taxpayer owe it to me to feed my kids. And I guess the way I read scripture, Neil, and you’re a former pastor, that’s not the way I’ve ever read it. In fact, Timothy is really big on making sure that you work hard, that you’re a good seasoned worker, you’re worthy of being hired, and by the way, that you’re able to feed your family because if not, you’re the worst of sinners.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, you read my mind. I don’t know where you came up with that because I was sitting here thinking, you know, as much as this creates an obstacle and nobody wants to see anyone starve to death or go hungry. But in the meantime, while this all gets worked out, and by the way, the Democrats are just obstructing on this whole thing. That’s right. They could say tomorrow, let’s go ahead and deal with this issue at a future time and the government would be back in business. Snap checks would be sent out. The whole thing would happen while they figure out long term what this decision is going to be. But a lot of the policies that are in place right now are due to expire because they were COVID era policies. And so some of these benefits were hyped up during the COVID thing. pumped up to astronomical proportions and they’re about to go back to normal levels and people are saying the republicans are stealing food off the plate of you know hungry deserving people well it’s not true anyway the church has a tremendous opportunity to step up to the plate right now and be the church look around your community see who’s hurting and make a difference bring light into their darkness that’s the gospel in action and i think christians ought to be looking at this licking our chops saying this is a wonderful opportunity for us to build the kingdom of God. And let’s get busy. Let’s do it.

Guys, I have no idea. I talk about this on several of my radio programs. which is you always have to be diligent in what you’re doing. Please be aware. Have your head on a swivel. The last thing you want to have is some sort of an altercation out in a parking lot. Will some of these grocery stores be adding some different security measures and things along those lines to help with some of this stuff? Honestly, guys, I don’t have any idea, but I do know this. For all of our listeners that are out there, the best thing to do is be vigilant and I would also probably tell you to shop maybe at off times where you may not even encounter some of these individuals, if in fact that’s the case. Some of you that have the ability where you know there’s more of that type of a shopper around than others, maybe go find the stores that… you know, may not have those shoppers there. And again, I don’t know much about that world. I don’t do a lot of grocery shopping anymore. Guys, I hate to say that that’s not really in my wheelhouse. So I can’t tell you the last time I actually was at a grocery store. I know that sounds really bad, but I just, I don’t do any of that anymore. So I know that sounds really bad, but I don’t. Yeah, I’m really disconnected on the grocery store end of things. So, and I am, I’ll be the first to admit that my wife does all that. And I don’t, I don’t do anything along those lines. Neil Boron Live. And just to kind of recap and finish up the whole snap thing. And Neil, I want to go back to you on this because… I don’t know, maybe it’s pride on my end. I mean, I’ve been in some really rough times in my life. I mean, as a business owner, there are times where, and Bob, I’m sure, can relate to this, but there are times where you don’t know if there’s another meal coming. You don’t know if there’s another dollar coming in in the business. I’ve been in those situations. I know what it’s like to struggle. I know what it’s like to not have a pot to you-know-what in. I mean, at the end of the day, I’ve been in those situations. I will also say this, though. In the worst of times… I never went to anyone, government included, for any kind of a handout. I figured out how to work harder and do whatever it took to make ends meet, do whatever you needed to do, be more resourceful, learn from those mistakes, don’t let them happen again. Those are the sorts of things that I learned. And Neil, to me, we’ve made this whole snap end of things. 40 million Americans, it’s far too easy to not have to go out and work.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and just handing food out to people really doesn’t solve any long-term problems. And somebody might think I’m, you know, really a mean guy for saying that kind of thing. But the Bible says if you don’t work, you shouldn’t eat. I mean, the principle of working to be able to meet your physical needs and your earthly needs makes sense. It’s a biblical thing. But ultimately, our supply comes from God. the word of God says that the righteous have never been forsaken, nor has God’s seed ever begged for bread. God supplies all of our needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus. So the church needs to be all about teaching people that ultimately our supply comes from God and from the people of God, that we as believers can get on board and do what Matthew 25 talks about. You know, when Jesus is saying, look at, you know, when you fed me, when you clothed me, you were doing those things for me. And why? Because this is the call of God on the people of God to represent the kingdom of God. So I just think, by and large, we really need to be sensitive during difficult times where anyone might be struggling to understand that’s an opportunity for ministry. And not that we put a mark on them and say, well, oh, look, that person over there is struggling. So I’m going to go whack him over the head with the Bible and try to lead him to Jesus. No, that we would simply love them. and be there for them and meet their needs and teach them what it looks like to follow Jesus. Because when we can start telling stories about the lack that we’ve experienced in our lives and how God showed up to meet it in our lives, we give them hope. And hope deferred makes the heart sick. The bottom line is we need to be able to offer people hope. That hope is ultimately found in Jesus and we can demonstrate it in real time by loving them and caring for their needs. And we need to agree.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, I agree. And again, it is an opportunity. Neil, I appreciate you saying that it very much is. I also feel like it’s an opportunity where maybe maybe I’ll just say it here. If you’re on assistance, you need to take a really hard look in the mirror and say, why am I doing this? Why am I relying on someone else? to meet my needs. And no, it is not anybody else’s obligation to meet your needs. This is your obligation to meet your needs. And I think sometimes, Bob, people need to take a really hard look in the mirror and say, what am I doing here?
SPEAKER 06 :
You know what? They absolutely do. And it doesn’t mean that we’re cold-hearted.
SPEAKER 03 :
No. Opposite, Bob, because the joy of actually doing things for yourself and being able to get ahead in life far outweighs being dependent on someone else. That’s right. That’s

we are to care for widows and orphans. The idea is that people who actually genuinely really are not able to care for themselves, of course we care for them. But the truth is, and this is because of a lot of the liberal left-wing progressive Marxist ideology today, that you’re entitled to something somebody else has and you don’t have to work for it. And so, therefore, people are violating 2 Thessalonians 3.10, okay? If a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat. Well, no, it’s like, stay home, sit on your mom’s couch, play video games, and collect free money from the government. John, look, I’ve owned businesses in the past. You know, as a businessman, I know what it’s like to struggle to make payroll. I know what it’s like to be the last one paid. Right. in a company and sometimes not get paid at all. And I know what it’s like to really struggle and not know where my next meal is coming from. So I get the financial devastation that people experience sometimes. And you know what I’ve always done? Anytime I find myself in financial difficulty, John, I work harder. I try harder. I take on an extra job if I have to. I find extra ways to raise money. And I don’t mind saying, OK, that, you know, you can say, oh, Bob, that’s easier for you as a white man. Hold on. Did you know you guys might not even know this. Did you know that I’m actually one eighth Cherokee Indian?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, I did not.
SPEAKER 06 :
I actually am.
SPEAKER 04 :
You’re related to Elizabeth Warren.
SPEAKER 06 :
Me and Elizabeth Warren, that’s right. Elizabeth Warren and I are related. But I actually really am. My grandmother from Arizona, she’s dead now, but my grandmother on my mother’s side was one-half Cherokee. My mom was one-quarter Cherokee. I’m one-eighth Cherokee. To be a member of Cherokee Nation, you need to be one-sixteenth Cherokee. So actually, I am a minority Cherokee. Technically, I – by the way, can I just say I do have a say. It should be the Washington Redskins. And no, I’m not offended. OK? But anyway. But I could have been on government programs this whole time. I mean my entire life I could have milked government programs. You know the amount of money that I’ve taken from claiming minority status in America from the government? Zero. Zero. Not one single dime. You know why? Because I’m able-bodied, able to work, and it’s my responsibility to go out and make a living. And if I struggle financially, it’s my responsibility to go out and get a second job, third job. Whatever I need to do, the opportunity is there. And that’s a biblical principle. Work ethic comes from Scripture. It really does. And so that’s what my attitude is on this. So I’m not being cold-hearted to people. I have been there. I know what it’s like to be in poverty. yep and the answer is not to say well then i’m entitled to what my neighbor has yeah when my kids were little guys there was a lot of pancakes for dinner if you know what i mean because they’re cheap and easy and we didn’t have any other money so that’s what you fed the kids back then bob absolutely that’s i look i i get it we’ve done that bologna bologna sandwiches yep okay yep uh we i mean i’m You did what you had to. One of these days, John, you and I are going to have to share war stories because I bet you’ve got some pretty bad ones. I got some pretty bad ones.
SPEAKER 04 :
I do. And again, I’m by no means trying to outdo anybody or put ourselves on a pedestal or anything. I’m just letting people understand that, yes, I know what it’s like to be in need. I know what it’s like. to empty every bank account, Bob, to make payroll and wondering, is any of that money going to come back at the end of the day so you can actually feed yourself? Yes, I know what those things are like. On the same token, I guess I was raised in such a way to where I didn’t want to live, by the way, this is me, I didn’t want to live by the golden rule, which is the guy with the gold rules. When you start taking handouts from other people, you no longer control your life, they do.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 04 :
And that is true if you’re borrowing money from your family, from your co-worker, taking an advance from your boss. I mean, guys, I don’t care how you look at it. And that’s different, by the way, I believe, than borrowing money that you’ve agreed with set terms to pay back. That’s a different scenario than actually accepting, quote unquote, a handout. With that handout, there’s always strings attached. And in the Marxist movement, there are huge strings attached because they want to control your life. That’s why they offer it. Bob, the one thing that you can take control over is the life of a newborn baby.

You know, we really can. It’s like, well, what can I do? You know, all these abortions happening in America. There is actually something you can do. All right, guys, moving along here. And this one is, you know, this topic that we need to cover. We’re heading into the, you know, we record on Wednesday mornings for those of you that may not know this. So most of you will be able to listen to this prior to Halloween, which is just a couple of days away. And so, Neil, I want to start with you. What is the proper response as a Christian to Halloween?
SPEAKER 05 :
I think we should sit in our basements, turn off all the lights and pray that nobody waxes our windows.
SPEAKER 01 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s what we did when I was a kid. No, you know, this, this topic drives me crazy, John, because it has roots in the whole legalism question. And what I mean by that is I have no problem. If somebody’s got a real issue with the idea that You know, living and breathing on October 31st makes you a follower of the devil, and they just don’t want any part of anything that looks like Halloween. OK, fine. Follow the conscience that God has given you on that. Romans 14 says, Be fully convinced in your own mind. Why? Because each one of us will give an account of ourselves to God. But here’s the thing. I don’t think any Christian should be, quote, celebrating Halloween if that means celebrating the devil, celebrating witchcraft, you know, whatever. However, October 31st is the day that the Lord has made, and we’re to rejoice and be glad in it. God didn’t create 364 days a year. He created 365. He didn’t say go and preach the gospel most of the year except on October 31st. We’re to be Christians every single day of the year. And so what should Christians do on Halloween? Everything that we were designed to do on every other day of the year. We should be making disciples in whatever form that looks. So if God lays it on your heart to invite people over to your house to have a party and give kids candy or something, whatever your conscience allows in that sense, do it as unto the Lord and know that you’re fulfilling the mandate of the kingdom, which is to tell others about the good news of the gospel. And here’s the rub. that when you say you’re doing anything on October 31st, people go, oh, that’s it. You’re celebrating Halloween. You’re worshiping the devil. No, I’m not. And Bob, it’s, I don’t know what the phrase is, if there even is a phrase, but you often talk about trying to hold two truths in tension. You know, the bottom line is evil exists in the world and we should never celebrate it, never promote evil. But we’re to bring light into darkness and we have a mandate to bring light into darkness. October 31st is a very dark day. As Christians, we need to shine the light that day And those are two truths that ought to hold each other in tension. So, yeah, anyway, that’s my take on it. I’ve got a lot more to say, John.
SPEAKER 04 :

SPEAKER 06 :
No, look, I’m very much with Neil on this. Now, I can tell you, in our family and raising our kids, we never celebrated Halloween. We never dressed our kids up and had them go out trick-or-treating. However, I don’t— fault or take a pharisaical attitude toward families that do. I’ve had a lot of callers tell me over the years that they see it as a witnessing opportunity. They dress their kids up as Bible characters. They exchange candy for biblical tracts that they hand back to the families. So I think that’s great. I don’t have anything against that. It’s just for me and my house, we’ve just decided we don’t want to uh, celebrate Halloween and join the party, if you will, by having our kids dress up, even though we wouldn’t have them dress up as ghouls and demons, but still, uh, by and large, Halloween culturally today is one big celebration of evil and death. And so in that regard, I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t like walking in the retail stores and seeing the, the ghoulish evil imagery. And certainly some of the neighborhood, uh, decorations are getting over the top. I got a neighbor in my subdivision that has these bloodied, severed heads hanging on hooks all over the yard. And so there comes a point where it’s like, okay, it’s a celebration of evil, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to go hide in the basement. So you know what we do? We sit out on the front porch. We watch the kids come by. We have a big, nice thing of candy, and we give them candies that come along, and we let them see that, hey, we’re fun, normal people, but we didn’t dress up our kids and send them out around the neighborhood themselves. And that’s how we’ve tended to handle this. And I don’t mind using it as a little bit of a teaching tool for our kids when they were little. We were like, you know, we’re not going to be doing everything that all of our friends are always doing. Sometimes we do need to separate ourselves from the world. And so we’re not going to join the party by dressing up along with everybody, but we’re going to be friendly when they come to our door and give them candy and smile. And so that’s kind of how I tend to look at it. All I will say, though, to people is that if you’re going to pass out Bible tracts to the kids when they come, make sure that the Bible tract is rubber band attached to a nice big candy bar. Because if you just toss them both in loose when they dump everything out, they’re not going to know that that tract was accompanied by a candy bar. They’re going to think that some Christian didn’t give me candy and all they did was wanted to tell me about their religion. And so make sure it’s attached to a candy bar so that they know that we are being decent about it. That’s my only piece of advice.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, and for those of you that think, okay, John, what’s your opinion? You know, I’m probably a combination of you two. Again, grew up in a, you know, you guys all know, very legalistic, you know, end of things. And I still see a lot of that, to Neil’s point, you know, that are out and even posting on social media. I saw one the other day that, you know, if your church does anything to do with Halloween, you know, blah, blah, blah. And I’m like, oh, jeez.
SPEAKER 06 :
Harvest parties can’t even do.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it’s like, you know, can’t get drunk on treats and so on. It’s like, okay, you know, again, I guess I’m more of a, you know, you do you. I’m not going to judge another Christian for what they do. I mean, I personally, not a fan of the day. I don’t dress up. We don’t do anything along those lines. I’m fortunate to have a home whereby no one ever comes by because they’ll never walk the distance it takes to actually get to the front door. So at the end of the day, I don’t even have to participate in that and the things, guys. I’m very fortunate as far as all of that goes. Again, I’m removed from some of that in that regard and no my wife and i will not go you know seek out you know halloween parties and do things along those lines again for me it’s just and it’s not because the legalist side neil it’s it’s it’s not that resurfacing by any means it’s just for me not a big deal for me there’s other things i’d rather go do i just i don’t know just first i don’t even watch scary movies anymore i guess i’ve even moved beyond that you know i don’t watch horror films haven’t for probably three or four decades now, just not something that I do. And again, it’s, it’s not because I feel like somehow some demons going to, you know, affect me by doing so. No, it’s just, it’s just not my thing. You know, it’s just not something that brings me joy. And for me, if it doesn’t bring joy, why would I do it?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. And to each his own and that’s your decision to make and good for you. Like if that’s what is on your heart, then I say, pursue it with gusto. But again, you know what’s interesting and i gotta say this carefully because i don’t mean to throw rocks at anybody i’ve been the world’s biggest legalist and i’ve been the world’s biggest sinner and everything in between but paul talking to the philippians i think it’s in philippians 3 says you know that we have a righteousness that is not my own a righteousness comes not from the law but from faith in jesus christ the righteousness that comes from god on the basis of faith philippians 3 9 that’s where it is and you know the bottom line is that uh how we behave ultimately matters especially with consequences here on earth if you you know break the speed limit you should get a speeding ticket but But the point is that our righteousness ultimately comes from God. And so I think that, you know, we don’t score extra brownie points by locking ourselves in the basement and proving to our neighbors how holy we are. Because guess what? We’re not holy. Jesus is holy. We still struggle with sin even after coming to faith in Christ. And we still need his grace every single day. His forgiveness is secure to Calvary. But, you know, the grace that saved us is the grace we need to sanctify us. And we need to thank God it’s available to us every day. And let me say, you know, one other thing about it, because there’s an incredible passage in Matthew. Where is it? Matthew chapter 27. And I want to read for you verses 51 to 53, because people say, oh, we should avoid any appearance of evil and blah, blah, blah. OK, when in verse 50, Jesus cried out again in a loud voice and gave up his spirit. This is the moment Jesus died. at that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom the earth shook the rocks split and the tombs broke open the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life they came out of the tombs after jesus’s resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people the next verse is where the centurion says truly this was the son of god like something was going on I challenge any youth pastor listening right now to act this out on the front lawn of the church on Halloween night. And when somebody says, what are you doing? And they try to complain about the fact that you’re glorifying evil or something, just say, this is straight out of scripture. This is what happened the moment Jesus died. And it shows not only the power of the death of Jesus, but ultimately the power of the resurrection, because we know what happened three days later. So, you know, what a tremendous opportunity to talk about You might scare the jeepers out of some of the people living in the community.
SPEAKER 06 :

Wow.
SPEAKER 05 :
I mean, this is straight out of Scripture. Yeah, no, you’re right.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, you’re right, Neil. You’re right.
SPEAKER 05 :
People were terrified when that was going on. Of course. And who orchestrated that? God orchestrated that. So that’s kind of interesting.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And again, one of these days we’ll have to do a show on the whole occult end of things and so on. And it’d be probably one of those kind of forever shows, guys, that we could do. And one of the things we touch on that periodically, I think there’s a lot of, and this is my opinion, a lot of misconception around what can actually happen, what the Lord would allow to happen, I guess you could say. I also believe, Neil, that was a one-off event. I don’t think that happens any longer. It hasn’t happened since, frankly. That’s not one of those things that the Lord is letting those sorts of things happen on a daily basis. I don’t believe in ghosts, to be honest with you. That’s a whole other conversation we could have at some point.
SPEAKER 06 :
Ghosts and haunted houses is a whole discussion we could have, too.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, we can get into that. I know people think that I’m weird along those lines, and I am. I’ll be the first to admit, yeah, I’m weird on some things. I have my own reasons, though, as to why You know, I don’t believe in some of that stuff. And maybe, Bob, for me, because of that, Halloween, it just doesn’t do anything for me. As I said a little bit ago, it’s not that it brings sadness to me. It doesn’t bring any joy. And by the way, for those listening, you may not know this. It’s the second highest spent, quote unquote, it’s not a holiday, but it’s the second highest event after Christmas people spend money on, Bob.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I know. They do spend a lot. But, you know, this is also the season when everybody’s really into ghosts and haunted houses and whatever. We just got to remember, okay, Satan and his demons, they’re deceivers. They masquerade as a bunch of different things.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 06 :
So, you know, I mean, I grew up in what would be described as a quote-unquote haunted house. I used to see stuff that you would see in movies all the time growing up. And even into my teen years, I’ve seen people appear and disappear and things levitate. The kind of stuff you see in movies, right? I look back on this now and I realize that images, some ghostly image of some guy in a Civil War uniform, that’s not the spirit of the guy that died. What is this, clothing? Have an eternal soul that happened? What is there, some ghost wardrobe closet that they go into to get their clothes? It was, well, maybe he died in that. Well, if ghosts are spirits of people and they’re wearing what they died in, then most people should be wearing hospital gowns and ghostly images. Or what about naked people that died in the bathtub? You know, you don’t see the… So no, these are demons that are masquerading as ghosts to try to trick people into believing that the Bible’s wrong about what happens to your spirit when you die. Paul makes it clear there’s one of two places. I’d rather be in the body I’d rather be with the Lord instead of in the body, but I choose to be in the body instead of with the Lord. There’s two places you can go. That’s it. There’s not a third option. Jesus didn’t say to the thief on the cross, today I tell you, you will be rattling chains in a Roman castle. No. You’re one of two places you’re going to go. The devil just wants to convince people Scripture is wrong about what happens to your spirit when you die.
SPEAKER 04 :
Speaking of Scripture and all of that and the fact that we believe life begins at conception, Bob, talk to us about pre-born.

Well, we really do believe life begins at conception. It’s a mathematical fact. It’s a scientific fact. It’s a medical fact. And by the way, it’s scripturally true as well. So I would argue as Christians, we do have a responsibility to try to save babies’ lives if we can. And you’re like, well, I’m one person. What can I do? Here’s what you can do.
