Welcome to Seeds of Revelation, a short devotional presented by Rabbi Schneider, a Jewish believer in Jesus, the Messiah. Well, you know, my friend, you can celebrate Hanukkah. I know you probably thought of it as just a Jewish holiday, and maybe you’ve seen the picture of the Hanukkah menorah with the nine candles burning, and maybe you thought that’s a beautiful sight. But you know what? Jesus celebrated Hanukkah. We read about it in the Gospel of John chapter 10, where Yeshua was in Jerusalem celebrating the feast of dedication. That’s where the word Hanukkah comes from. It’s the Hebrew word for dedication when the Maccabees, the Jewish resistance army called the Maccabees, recaptured the temple that had been desecrated by the Greco-Assyrians, and the Jewish army recaptured that temple. They rededicated it back to God. They lit the menorah in the temple, the candle, and it supernaturally burned for eight days, even though there was only enough oil that it should have burned for one day. So this is why we light the candles for every single day for eight days. But you know, you can celebrate Hanukkah Just go online, go to Amazon, look for Hanukkah menorah, get the Hanukkah candles, and you can begin celebrating Hanukkah lighting a candle each night for the eight days of Hanukkah. You can watch a little video and you’ll see exactly how to light the candles and which one to light first on the first day, et cetera. And it’ll just help connect you to your love for the Jewish people. Because, you know, in Messiah, Jew and Gentile are one. And God has called his church, his Gentile church, to love and pray for the Jewish people. The apostle Paul in the book of Romans, he was grieving for the salvation of the Jewish people. In fact, Paul in Romans 9 through 11, all he talked about was the salvation of the Jewish people. And he said there that he would be willing to give up his own salvation if his own country would get saved. So as we celebrate Hanukkah this year, I want to encourage you, go get a menorah. Light the candles for eight days, and as you do, celebrate the fact that Yeshua, who’s the light of the world, is shining upon your life, that you now have the Holy Spirit within you. There’s a light from you that’s continually burning. And when you’re lighting those candles, pray for Israel’s salvation. Because it’s not until there’s a mass of Jewish people that have come to faith in Messiah Jesus and are calling out to him, Baruch haba b’shem Adonai, which means blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. It’s not until this mass of Jewish people are asking him to come back that Jesus is going to return for you and for his beloved Jewish people. God bless you, my friends, and happy Hanukkah.
