Well, thank you to our J-Web, and hello everybody. Greetings unto you wherever you may be, tuning in to our broadcast. Whether you’re treadmill walking or maybe a walk through the neighborhood, maybe just time where you’re sitting down with a cup of coffee, friends, we are always honored for you to join us for our studies today from the International Gospel Hour. You know, the book of Hebrews, chapter 11, is that beautiful hall of faith chapter. And in Hebrews 11 in verse 4, we find a reference to Abel, by it he being dead yet speaks. In other words, Abel’s life of faith continues to speak to this day, although he has been dead for centuries. How blessed to hear the speaking of preachers of days gone by. And from time to time here on International Gospel Hour, we turn back the clock for outlines of yesteryear, sermons that still speak today, although the beloved servant that proclaimed the word has gone onward to his reward. Today I wish to bring forth a lesson by the late W.A. Bradfield. Brother Bradfield has passed on. He passed in 1972. But I am blessed with a kind book of his autobiography written by Andy Irwin. Friends, let’s think about God’s remedy for sin. In 1 Corinthians 1, verses 18 through 25, Paul said, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. But to us who are being saved it is the power of God, for it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For the Jews request a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom. But we preach Christ crucified to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness. But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. You know, Proverbs 14 and verse 12 reminds us there is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. And in Jeremiah 10 and verse 23, it is not in man to direct his steps. Think about Isaiah 55, 8 and 9, where God said, My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways, says the Lord. Friends, God’s remedy for sin relies upon God. When man tries to do things his way, when man follows things that are not authorized of God, he will not find the remedy. How about Naaman in 2 Kings chapter 5, the secretary of war in Syria, who was a leper. And yet within that text there was a little maid that was interested in him. And Elisha the prophet gave him the remedy what to do in order to be healed. He was told to dip seven times in the river Jordan and be healed. If you remember, Naaman began to resist. But yet that little one said unto him, If you were told to do some great thing, would you not do it? Yet all you have to do is dip seven times and be healed. Naaman thought there would be other rivers that would be better. But the more he thought, the more his leprosy continued. When he did what God said and took God’s remedy, the prescription, and had it filled, then it made the difference. What about Joshua in Joshua chapter 6 in the city of Jericho? You know, God had given them the city, but he told them what to do. To march around the city, and then march around the city seven times. And to march around the city seven times, sound the horn, give the shout, take the city. And when Joshua and the children of Israel did what was said, that city fell. You see, when we have the prescription given by God fulfilled and filled, then it works. How about Numbers 21, the Israelites, of those who were bitten by that fiery serpent, the serpents that went through? God told Moses to put a brazen serpent upon a staff and put it up, and all they had to do was look toward it and be healed. Now, that may sound foolish to man, but God’s power did it. What if they failed to look? Then they would still be suffering from those bites. You see, when we feel God’s prescription, then we understand. What about the blind man in John chapter 9? He was told to wash and see. Christ spit on the ground and made spittle with his spit and the dirt and the mud and anointed the blind man’s eyes and told him to go wash in the pool of Siloam. And when the man filled the prescription, then he was able to see. Friends, we can see these examples in the Bible that if individuals simply did what God instructed them to do, if they would feel the prescription, the remedy for sin was taken care of. God’s remedy for sin today, you know, friends, when you think about it, there are two signs of salvation. There’s the divine sign, what God has given, and the human side of what we should accept. In Ephesians 2 and verse 8, Paul reminded the church, for by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. not of works, lest any man should boast. Here are individuals that accepted God’s grace, God’s salvation. We learn that from Ephesians 1 and verse 13, and from their conversion going back to Acts 19, 1 through 5. When you and I think about an illustration, if you will, a story of a man that fell into an empty cistern, down into a pit, and a rope was let down to him, Well, friends, He had to do His part. He had to take that rope and hold on in order to be rescued. Friends, when God has granted us His grace of salvation that teaches and instructs us how to live, then, friends, I submit to you, we simply need to do His plan as well, to believe in Christ, to repent of our sins and confess our faith in Christ. And remember Mark 16 and verse 16, He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be condemned. When you think about it, friends, sometimes people will resist that command of baptism. But, you know, let’s think about this in another way of illustration. He that eats food and digests it shall have good health. But he that does not eat, he’s going to die. If I were to tell you, friends, and if we were in an assembly together and I were to tell you, he that goes out of this building and crosses the street will receive $100, but he that does not go out of the building, well, he’s not going to receive the money. We can understand God’s remedy for sin today when we obey the gospel of Christ. It’s not enough for us to know the truth. James 4 and verse 17. We understand that our lives are but a vapor. We’re here for a little while, then we vanish away. We must obey the truth. And again, the plan of obedience is very simple. When I believe in Jesus Christ, as He commanded us in John 8, 24, I’m going to believe in everything that He teaches. I’m going to believe in that life and who He was and what He taught. he taught us that beauty of repentance in Luke 13, 3 and 5 the beauty of confession in Matthew 10, 32 and 33 the beauty of baptism in Matthew 28, 18 and 19 as well as we mentioned Mark 16, 15 and 16 were added to his church that he said he would build and he did build it Matthew 16 and verse 18 and just like those who were added to the church on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 and verse 47 we can be added as well Friends, how grateful we are for these awesome outlines of the past.
