SPEAKER 02 :
Hi, this is Jay Webb for International Gospel Hour. We’re so glad you’ve decided to listen to our program today. In a world of challenges, we need God’s Word to help us face those challenges. Thank you for joining us in this period of Bible study with our speaker, Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour, a broadcast of the Churches of Christ. So let’s listen today.
SPEAKER 01 :
Here’s Jeff. Well, greetings and hello, everyone. Great having you with us. And thank you to our J-Web for his kind words. And you’ll hear from Jay throughout our broadcast. As a matter of fact, today we have a free publication coming up from our friends at Apologetics Press. And Jay will tell you about that in a moment. You know, we are truly blessed to have you, our listeners today. Your desire to pursue truth and to know said truth is noted from John 8, 31 and 32, when Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. The truth is sought with an honest heart and a diligent search, and we are thankful for your interest in the things that be of God. Today we’re going to talk about Jesus, the Prince of Peace. May I take us back to the Old Testament, to the Messianic prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 9, 6 and 7, who said, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and a government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end. Upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom to order it and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Well friends, there is no doubt of whom Isaiah is writing. This is the Christ. Every characteristic explains him. Every life, friends, wants peace. Let’s face it, we prefer peace more than turmoil. Christ over chaos, trust over troubles. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men, in Luke 2.14. These were the words upon the birth of the Christ. Peace has entered. Peace has resurrected. Peace on the right hand of God. Peace our intercessor. Peace is our Savior. Today, friends, let us see the Prince of Peace. I’ll be back in about a minute, but now a very special offer. through our friends at Apologetics Press. Here is our Jay Webb.

SPEAKER 01 :
When we talk of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, first we recognize that His message is peace. Now, as we consider this, we can look at Matthew 10, verse 34, and we may question this as Jesus did say, Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword. Now, let’s keep that in the context, friends. Jesus is sending out the twelve in what we have termed the limited commission. And within this, Jesus warned how the message would be received by some. And let’s face it, friends, the gospel message, as beautiful as it is, can stir and anger individuals. When one no longer lives according to the world, 1 Corinthians 6, 17 and following, Well, the world will have its problems. When one is subject to the words of Christ, then true peace will come. When we live according to the world, we’re going to have problems left and right. And not that we will not have problems when we live for Christ. But he supplies that true peace, his message, that helps us through those problems. In John 16, 33, he made this promise to his apostles, but it stands true to us. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you have tribulation, or you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. There’s the peace of which one holds. The powerful gospel as affirmed in Romans 1, 16 and 17 is also known as the gospel of peace in Romans 10, 15 and Ephesians 6 and verse 15. When one obeys the gospel of Christ through simple faith and repentance, confession of that faith, baptism into Christ and a faithful walk, then we have a peace that passes all understanding, Philippians 4, and that allows us to have peace and to deal with the things in our life through the help of Christ. In Colossians 1.20, And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself, by him, I say, whether they be things in earth or things in heaven. Friends, when you think about it, there is no other message of peace. It is a message that grants ease and peace to a soul. It gives hope and direction to every soul that is obedient. It is a message that we need to pursue. 1 Corinthians 15 verses 1 and following. And we need to obey the gospel of Christ that we can stand in peace. Second, his obedience is peace. As mentioned, obedience to this gospel message. through faith as commanded by Jesus in John 8, 24, repentance as commanded by Jesus in Luke 13, 3 and 5, confession as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 10, 32, and baptism as commanded by Jesus in Mark 16, verse 16, and faithful living commanded by Jesus in Revelation 2, verse 10. Friends, Romans 5.1 says, Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. When we build off our obedient faith, as we are in the context there of Romans 4, and the faith of Abraham, now listen to what he says. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body, and be ye thankful. Colossians 3.15 The body, the church, of which we are added when we obey the gospel message. How about Galatians 6.16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them. We are added to the body, to the church, upon obedience to him, and we walk according to the rule, messages of peace. What about Galatians 5.22 The fruit of the Spirit. Love, joy, peace. Long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. And you know, that’s where Peter told the Christians in 2 Peter 3.14, Wherefore, beloved, seeing that you look for such things, Be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless. Look toward the peace that’s within the church. Look toward the walking, the mind, the power of prayer, those things that peace will help guard and help us along. Now, friends, consider with me thirdly that his kingdom is peace. Now, when you think about the kingdom of God, the kingdom of God is not something that’s coming, friends. The kingdom of God came upon this earth as prophesied from 2 Samuel 12, verses 7 and following. And Jesus, as he promised to build his church, he also stated unto Peter he would give unto him the keys of the authority to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever is bound on earth would be bound in heaven. Loosed on earth would be loosed in heaven. And you find in Colossians 1 and verse 13 when he’s writing to the church that they were translated or conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of His love. Friends, I submit to you when a person is added to the church, they are added to the kingdom of Jesus Christ of whom He is King of kings and Lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6 and verse 15. You see, Romans 14, 17-19 says, For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he that is in these things, serve Christ, is acceptable unto God and approved of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. You see, God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints, 1 Corinthians 14, 33. That’s why Paul told the Christian to endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the pond of peace, Ephesians 4, verse 3. Friends, let us not allow the world to disrupt us, and to disrupt our peace that only Jesus can provide. His message is peace, His obedience is peace, and His kingdom is peace. Would you love to know more? Would you love to be a part of that kingdom? Would you love to be a part of that church? Would you love to study this further on your own to grow in your knowledge?
