Good morning. Praise the Lord. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Welcome to Victorious Faith. I’m Cherri Campbell. This morning, I’m going to begin message two in a series of messages that I preached in our Victorious Faith services called Who is the Holy Spirit? So join me now in our live service for the beginning of message two. Who is the Holy Spirit? Part two. We’re actually going to spend a few services talking about who is the Holy Spirit. And in our last message, just a real quick summary review. We said, who is the Holy Spirit? First of all, he is the third member of the Trinity or the Godhead. And I gave you the example of an egg having a shell, the white, and the yolk. They’re all three separate. They can even be separated from each other. They have distinct and different characteristics and qualities, and yet none of them alone is an egg. All of them together make one egg. Also, another example of a trinity, God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one God. He’s not many gods. He’s one God, but three persons. And the example of the egg is the best example that God gave me. But also, the other example is we human beings are in his image, made in his image in Genesis 126. But we are also triune, three-part beings. Now, the world doesn’t know that. Most of them think we’re two parts, and many Christians, they talk about body and soul. Body and soul, body and soul. But the Word of God, the New Testament, mentions spirit, soul, and body. You’ll see all three of those named in 1 Thessalonians 5.23. Your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. So we see all three of them named, spirit, soul, and body. Your whole spirit, soul, and body. So your spirit, soul, and body together is what make you whole, one person. And so we are three in one, spirit, soul, and body. And Hebrews 4.12 talks about the dividing of soul and spirit. The word divides soul and spirit. And so we saw that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and And we see all three named in Matthew 28, 19. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We see all three of them named there. We also see all three named in 2 Corinthians 13, 14. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And we see in Ephesians 4, verses 4 through 6, one Spirit, one Lord, and one God and Father. So we see them all three named there. And then we talked about the Holy Spirit is a person and personal pronouns are always used in reference to him. Now, I think it might be in the King James Version that sometimes it uses the word it referring to the Holy Spirit, but that is incorrect. All other modern translations will always use the word he or him in reference to the Holy Spirit. Also, we see in John 14, 26, the counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom? the Father will send. Whom? That’s a person. Who? Whom? The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name. That’s a personal pronoun used referring to the Holy Spirit. Also, we see in Ephesians 1, 14, the end of verse 13 says, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance. The promised Holy Spirit, who? is a deposit. Who? He’s a person. And then in John 16, verse 7, Jesus said, If I go, I will send him, the Holy Spirit, to you. Verse 13, When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own. He will speak what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come. Right there, I think we have seven uses of he or his in one verse. So those are personal pronouns referring to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a person, not an it. Get that out of your mind as an it. And he’s not like Casper, the friendly ghost. He is the Holy Spirit breath of God. He’s a person. And then the last part that we talked about last service is, is I gave you a definition or description of the characteristics making up a person. What characterizes a person? And we saw that a person is a living being possessing a spirit, which is breath and inner being, We talked about that. And a soul, mind, will, and emotions, and has personality. However, animals also have breath, soul, and personality. You know, dogs have personalities. Cats, horses, they have personalities. They also have breath, so they have to have a spirit. Some people think, well, is an animal a spirit? The word spirit and breath are the same in both Greek and Hebrew. Old Testament written in Hebrew, the New Testament was written in Greek. And the word breath is the same word as spirit. So whatever has breath has spirit. Simple as that. So an animal has breath, they have to have spirit because it’s the same. And they have intelligence, mind. They have emotions. You know, dogs can be happy or sad. They can wag their tail happily or they can whine sad. And they have a will. They can choose, I’m going to go get that bone or I’m not going to go get that bone. And they have personality. So, yes, animals have those characteristics. But a person has other unique attributes, right? They have character. What is character? Character is a combination of both personality and morality. Like a good character and a bad character has to do with morality. That’s just a bad character. That has to do with morality. They’re not honest or they’re doing bad things. A bad character… immoral, bad morals. But character also has to do with personality. It’s what makes up a person’s personality. So character is a combination of personality and morality. A person has character. Animals don’t necessarily have any morality. A person has the ability to speak. Well, angels can speak. But people can also reason or calculate things. They can make moral judgments. Animals do not make moral judgments. And people have beliefs. Beliefs. They believe in various things, whether it’s religious or scientific or whatever. Whatever they think about things is beliefs, right? And people have God’s gift of creativity. Some people have more, some people have less. But pretty much just being able to bake a cake is having an ability of creativity. Being able to build a doghouse or plant a garden is an ability of creativity. Drawing a painting, writing a song, writing a poem, building a structure, getting an idea, an invention. People, that is unique to people. And I don’t even know that angels have that. I have not heard of that. I don’t think they do. We’ll learn about angels more when we get to heaven. But I haven’t read anything about them being creative. They do what God says. They say what God says. And people have a sense of purpose in life, or at least they know they need one, and they’re seeking it. But why am I here? Why am I alive? What am I supposed to be doing with my life? There is an awareness of a need to know purpose, right? Because we are created by God, the God of purpose, with purpose. God is not a purposeless God. He never made any human being without a purpose. The fact you were born proves there is a purpose for you to live. had a purpose for you to accomplish on this earth. God declares the end from the beginning, it says in the Bible. So he had your purpose and your destiny planned out and written down before the earth was created. Your life and every human being that ever would live your whole life. It says in Psalm 139, every day of my life was recorded in your book before one day came to be. God knew your whole life. Not that he makes your choices from you. That is not predestination. It is pre-knowing. Somebody asked me recently about predestination because God wrote down our lives. Does that mean we’re destined to certain things? No. He gave everybody a free will and a free choice. That’s why there is sin. Sin wouldn’t exist if we were all just machinery robots doing what God programmed us to do every day, and we’re doing it because it was what we were programmed to do. We’d be robots. No. He said, I set before you today life and death, blessing and cursing. You choose. He says, this is the path I have for you. Many go off. On a different path. They don’t want his path. He gave every human being free choice. And you can choose his path or not. Sin is rebellion. Sin is disobedience, doing what he told you not to do. So the very fact that sin exists proves that God is not controlling people. Every time you sin, it was your choice, not God’s, to sin. Whether it was sinning with your mouth, sinning with your mind, sinning with your actions, whatever the sin was, it was your choice. God didn’t make you sin. It’s because you are a free agent. You are a free agent. Now, you do have a Lord, either Satan or God. It’s who you submit to because every time you sin, you are submitting to the devil. Satan, you’re submitting to Satan. Every time you sin, you’re submitting to Satan. And you’re making him your Lord and master and ruler, at least for that moment.
