SPEAKER 01 :
Good morning. Welcome to Victoria’s Faith. I’m Cherry Campbell. This morning I’m going to begin sharing with you message number four, the final message in a series of messages that I’ve been sharing with you that I preached in our Victoria’s Faith services called What Made David a Man After God’s Own Heart. So join me now in our live service for the beginning of message number four, the final message in this series, What Made David a Man After God’s Own Heart. We are now on part four of what made David a man after God’s own heart. And like I said, this is the conclusion, the final part. But I’m quickly going again. We’re going to read our text scriptures. First Samuel 13, 14. This is one of the times Saul disobeyed God. He disobeyed God more than once. And Samuel rebuked him more than once. So this is one of the times that Saul disobeyed God. Samuel said, but now your kingdom will not endure. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people because you have not kept the Lord’s command. And then this is referred to again in Acts 13, 22. After removing Saul, he made David their king, and he testified concerning him, I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do. And we first looked at what made David a man after God’s own heart. First of all, the heart. God looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16, 7, The Lord said to Samuel, Do not consider his appearance or height. I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. The heart is always the very primary key factor. However, out of the heart, your mouth speaks out of your heart, you act and you do things. So the heart will then be revealed in what you do. But we saw that David kept a clean heart before God. He said, create in me a clean heart. He loved God. He loved God’s word. He cherished God’s word. He was a man of prayer and fellowship with God. He was a man of praise and worship. He sought the Lord. And when he sinned, he repented wholeheartedly. And when he repented, he received by faith his forgiveness and he received his righteousness by faith. And then we also saw what made David a man after God’s own heart. He sought the Lord’s will. He inquired of the Lord, what should I do? And we see that I was talking about obedience and then he obeyed the Lord. But in obedience, why do many, many, many Christians are not obeying God? Contrary to what you may think, you may think that everybody that comes to church on Sunday and even those Christians who don’t go to church are obeying God. Right. They’re not even going to church. But those who go to church, you may think, oh, everybody here is just perfectly obeying God. No, no, no. Obedience to God requires faith and willingness. And it requires that you overcome fear. What stops people from obeying God? Fear and unwillingness. Either they don’t want to do what God has told them to do. I just don’t want to do that. Or they’re afraid to do it. They don’t have the faith because to obey God requires faith. Most everything he tells us to do requires faith. faith. So you have to step out in faith. You have to overcome fear. So fear will stop you from obeying God. Faith will empower you to obey God. But you have to keep your heart right with a willing heart saying, yes, Lord, I’m willing to do your will. And we also saw that procrastination is one tool that millions of Christians employ and Unwittingly, I’m sure. Unwittingly, not consciously. Well, I’ll do it tomorrow or next week or next month or next year when the economy changes, when my kids get out of high school and they put it off to the future. Guess what? We also saw that delayed obedience is disobedience. If your kids are watching television and you tell them, get up, go clean your room and do your homework. And they sit there and they watch television for 30 more minutes. Have they obeyed you? No, they haven’t. Delayed obedience is disobedience. And yet many, many, many of God’s people, his own children, they don’t take seriously when God instructs them to do something. And they look for a better time. Well, my kids are still in school. Well, the economy is not good. I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to go there. I don’t want to talk to her or him. And the flesh gets in the way. Unwillingness gets in the way. Fear gets in the way. And many, many, many of God’s children are in disobedience because of unwillingness, procrastination, fear. These things are stopping people. You’re going to have to have faith to step out and obey God. And you’re going to have to be consciously aware, make conscious decision to act immediately. When you know God has said do something, do it. Don’t procrastinate and have a willing heart. So we saw that he sought the Lord’s will. He inquired of the Lord. How many times do you inquire the Lord? Are you saying, Lord, should I do this or this, this or this? Many Christians never even ask God. They just make their own choice. But do you realize that asking God can help you immensely make the right choice every time? God can always show you the right choice. And so he obeyed God. He stepped out in faith. He acted on his faith. Now, that was a quick review. And then tonight, I want to just show you three more points about what made David a man after God’s own heart. Next, he was a man who knew his covenant with God. It was very real to him. And years ago, actually, I can remember the year. I can remember the day. January 1st, 1996. What was that? Many years ago. The Lord spoke to me on New Year’s Day and told me to take communion every day for 30 days and to meditate on the blood covenant, my blood covenant with God. The blood covenant, the covenant he made with me, ratified in the blood of Jesus. To think about its provisions and all that it means. And I did that. And I’ve been thinking about it ever since. But those 30 days made it a foundation in my faith. Now my faith in God is based on blood. His word, yes, it’s based on his word. His word is the rock I stand on, but guess what? His word is ratified by blood. He confirmed his word with an oath, it says in Hebrews chapter 6. He confirmed his word with two immutable things. Let me read it to you. Hebrews chapter 6. This scripture has meant so much to me. It is an anchor for your soul. Well, why does it anchor your soul? Because your soul is what wavers. Your soul is a place Satan has access. He can’t access your spirit, your inner man. Satan has no access to your spirit. But he does have access to your soul, which is your mind, will, and emotions, and to your body. He can attack your mind, will, and emotions, and he can attack your body. And he attacks your mind with fear and doubt and anxiety. And so the covenant becomes an anchor for the soul, for your mind to be anchored, your heart to be anchored, your faith to be anchored. Hebrews 6 says, Let me start in verse 12. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, I will surely bless you. And give you many descendants. And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Men swear by someone greater than themselves and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. You can even say puts an end to all doubt. Verse 17, because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear. You can even say his promise, the unchanging nature of his promise, very clear to the heirs of what was promised. He confirmed it with an oath. Amen. Amen. Amen. Because God has directed this is a time of increase. It is the season of increase. And if you are believing God for increase in your life, in any area, financially or in your work or in any area of your life, this is good ground for your good seed. And as you partner with God in the work of the kingdom of God, God blesses you and increases your seed sown. That is the spiritual law of sowing and reaping. You can read about it in second Corinthians chapter nine verses eight, nine, 10 and 11. You can also read about it in Galatians chapter six verses six through nine. God has given designated the law of sowing and reaping as the method for increase in the spiritual kingdom. And it also works in the natural realm as well. So this is good ground for your good seed, for you to believe God for the increase in your life.
