And if you’d like to just call us and tell us where you’re listening to our broadcast, we would love to hear from you. We’re going to consider our lesson text at 1 Corinthians 1, verses 29-31. The Bible says that no flesh should glory in His presence, but of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption, that, as it is written, He who glories, let him glory in the Lord. This is written to the Christians in Corinth, and within the context of division among these Christians, what a great inspired direction and declaration. to glory in the Lord, not in themselves, but to glory in the Lord. What a beautiful doctrine, where one learns how God provides so much to one in Christ, and therefore, yes, we’re going to glory in the Lord. To know Christ makes available to one His blessings and peace, as one is obedient unto Him. One will have no room to glory in himself, Because all the glory is in Christ and unto Christ. And you think about it, friends. Why would one desire to glory in oneself when one can glory in the Lord and it’s such a great life? So, we’re going to continue our study today. And let us glory in the Lord and see His provisions that, when used, will indeed help us to press onward in that way. But first, a few words from our J-Web.

Thanks again, Jay. And you know, friends, we are delighted to see the steady growth of all of our app downloads. So many of you have downloaded our app. And please feel free to download it today. It’s absolutely free from International Gospel Hour. And a little bonus is on there. You know, the first speaker of the International Gospel Hour was Brother V.E. Howard. From 1934 to about 1994, 60 years he was the speaker of. You will find on the app, when you hit the video prompt down at the bottom of the app, you’ll see access to the two video lessons that we have found that Brother Howard brought forth. A lot of his work, the vast majority, of course, was radio. There’s a couple of special things right there. Feel free to tune in and enjoy the preaching of V.E. Howard, in whose name we fondly remember here at International Gospel Hour. Friends, let us glory in the wisdom of the Lord. You know, the glory always goes to God. Galatians 2 and verse 20. Galatians 6 and verse 14, that we may glory in the cross. Even in the Old Testament, the words of the Lord through Jeremiah, in Jeremiah 9, 23 and 24, Thus says the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches, but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me. It’s interesting to see here in Jeremiah 9 and our lesson text from 1 Corinthians 1, 29-31, that this was said both times unto God’s people. who came to a point they would rather glory in their accomplishments and attributes rather than what the Father can grant, and even greater in what He can grant. Glory in us understanding God, knowing God, to live lives that reflect His loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness. The late Burton Kaufman observed, How incredible is it that a man, a creature of flesh and blood, created of the dust and to the dust certain to return, whose glory is at its zenith is only for a moment, whose days are spent in frustration, whose tears flow incessantly, whose very righteousness is filthy rags! How unbelievable is it that such a creature as man should glory before God! That’s the works of Brother Burton Kaufman of 1 Corinthians chapter 20, rather page 23 of his commentary of 1 Corinthians. Now, wisdom in this context of 1 Corinthians 1 is referring, of course, to Christ, thus the insight into Christ as He is our wisdom. So, to glory in the Lord, to boast of His goodness, to credit Him with all that we have, the glory in understanding and knowing God and living lives that reflect that type of living. You see, when we glory in His wisdom and not our wisdom, look at what happens. Now, It only stands to reason that if one desires His wisdom, His insight, and to understand those things He grants, that one will see, number two, let us glory in the righteousness of the Lord. I mean, if we desire His wisdom and we grow in that knowledge, we’ve got to pursue His righteousness. You see, in 2 Corinthians 5.21, the Bible says, “…for he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” That righteousness is through the gospel message. The death, the burial, the resurrection of Christ that was proclaimed in 1 Corinthians 15.1-4… And oh, think of that beautiful passage in Romans 1, 16 and 17 when Paul said, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, for in it is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith, for as it is written, the just shall live by faith. Thirdly, friends, let us glory in the sanctification of the Lord. If I grow in His wisdom, learn of His righteousness, I want to be sanctified by the Lord. To these same Christians at Corinth, Paul reminds them in 1 Corinthians 6.11 of the life that they lived in the past. Verses 9 and 10, he said, And such were some of you, but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. We learn when the church began in Corinth in Acts chapter 18, verse 8 tells us how Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household, and many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed, and were baptized. Friends, have you ever thought how simple that is? We hear the gospel which prompts our faith, Romans 10, 17. Faith, it is necessary, Hebrews 11, 6. And as we grow in the wisdom of God and see His righteousness, we have to embrace the command of repentance in Luke 13, 3 and Acts 2, 38 and Acts 17, 30 and 31. We have to embrace the command of confession, Jesus said in Matthew 10, 32. And to confess our faith in Christ and to be baptized into Christ just like those Corinthians did. And just like so many others within the book of Acts. Friends, we can glory in the Lord and not ourselves. I want to pause and defer to our J-Web now. as he will once again bring forth our free Bible study course that’s available by mail. Oh, we have sent out so many of these, and we will continue to send them out as often as they are requested. Here is our J-Web with the details.

SPEAKER 01 :
Friends, let us glory now in the redemption of the Lord. Psalm 49, verses 6-8 says, They that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother nor give to God a ransom for him. Friends, we have not enough in our lives to redeem ourselves. Therefore should we not glory in the Lord, who redeems us through His blood? 1 Peter 1, 18 and 19, and Ephesians 1 and verse 7. Oh, to glory in His redemption, what He has done for me and for you. That’s where, when one is obedient to the gospel, they can embrace those words of the old hymn, redeemed, how I love to proclaim it, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Friends, the only conclusion from our lesson text, we’re going to go right back where we started. He who glories, let him glory in the Lord. Glory in his wisdom, his righteousness, his sanctification, his redemption, only in him and only in the Lord. To God be indeed the glory.
