In a world constantly searching for newness, return with us to the rich, traditional faith of old-time religion. Today, we emphasize the importance of respecting the Bible as our authoritative guide, recognizing the reality of sin, and understanding the deep redemption offered through Christ’s blood. As we commemorate 90 years of International Gospel Hour, we continue to uphold the steadfast truths of old-time religion, standing as a beacon of hope and salvation for generations past, present, and future.
SPEAKER 01 :

SPEAKER 01 :
We’ve been online or on the air rather and online since 1934. As of this recording, we are in our 90th year and to God be the glory. Individuals such as you help us to remain on the air and we thank you for your interest of the things that be of God. You know, friends, today people are looking for something new. And when we think about, give me that old-time religion, well, in a previous broadcast we noted two important necessities of religion. And they’re nothing new, but they have stood the test of time. One, to believe and respect the Bible, because that’s where it all begins. And believe in the virgin birth of Christ. Truths, again, that stand the test of time, and truths on which we stand. Now, speaking of religion and truth, would you consider with me Acts 17, verses 15 through 23? of what happened when they were looking for something new. In Acts 17, 15, So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens, and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed. Now, while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the Gentile worshippers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What does this babbler want to say? Others said, He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods, because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection. And they took him and brought him to the Arapagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? For you are bringing some strange thing to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean. For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or hear some new thing. Then Paul stood in the midst of the Oropagus and said, Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious, for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription, To the Unknown God.” Therefore, the one whom you worship without knowing, him I proclaim to you. Now notice, friends, they were called very religious, and they would worship God without knowing him. Friends, would you not agree that we need to know the one whom we worship, and why? Friends, when we talk about old-time religion… Well, we want to affirm it has to be something at least 2,000 years old. And in the earlier broadcast, we noted a couple of things of believing in old-time religion. We want to share with you a couple of more. We’ll do that in a moment. But first, we want to pause, and then we will come back and continue our studies.

SPEAKER 01 :
Friends, if we believe in old-time religion, then we must believe in the reality of sin. And you know, some no longer believe in that. A lot of times we find people will say, I made a mistake, or I’m just maladjusted, and I’ve got problems, and I’ve got this and that. But friends, we must realize that sin will condemn our souls. It is called a transgression of God’s law, 1 John 3 and verse 4. Everyone sins and falls short of the glory of God, Romans 3.23, even of old in Ecclesiastes 7 and verse 20. For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin. we have to deal with sin in our lives. Even John told those Christians in 1 John 1 in verse 8, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. And in verse 10 of the same chapter, If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Friends, those who believe in old-time religion believe We’ll believe in the reality of sin. Now let’s come to what we’ve studied so far from our earlier broadcast and just now. Those that will hold to old-time religion, well, let’s believe and respect the Bible as our authority in all that we do. And within the Bible, we are instructed how to live. We’re also taught of that virgin birth of Christ, how he would come into this world as the perfect sacrifice for sin. And when we see the reality of sin, friends, we need the answer for sin. And that brings us to our next point. What must we believe if we believe in old-time religion? How about let’s believe in the saving blood of Christ? Ephesians 2 and verse 13, Paul told them, But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. He’s speaking there to Christians, is he not? He’s letting them know of the blood of Christ that’s in their lives. The blood of Christ that Jesus said was the blood of the New Testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26, 28. And in Acts 20 and verse 28, speaking there to the elders or the overseers of the church at Ephesus, he told them to take heed unto themselves and unto all the flock over the which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers to feed the church of God which he purchased with his own blood. It is through the blood of Christ that the church is purchased. Those that are added to the church are those with remission of sins upon their obedience to the gospel, Acts 2.38 and Acts 2.47. And when we think about the blood of Christ, what a joy that the blood of Christ will make peace for us when it’s in our lives, Colossians 1 and verse 20. The blood of Christ will grant boldness or confidence or assurance in Christ when the blood of Christ is in our lives, Hebrews 10 and verse 19. The blood cleanses us from all sin. This is affirmed in Hebrews 9 and verse 14, as well as 1 John 1 and verse 7 to the Christian. to those that will have their robes white, will wash them in the blood of the Lamb, Revelation 1 and verse 5, and how Revelation 7 and verse 14 affirms that the blood of Christ is there to cleanse us from our sins. Therefore the blood is redeeming. It redeems us. For in Ephesians 1 and verse 7, in Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our sins according to the riches of His grace. and also affirmed in Colossians 1 and verse 14. You see, we were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver and gold, from our vain or empty lifestyle or conversation received by tradition from our fathers. Peter in 1 Peter 1, 18 and 19 says, “…you were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” Listen to Hebrews 9 and verse 12. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, he entered the most holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. And oh, think of that beautiful scene in Revelation 5 and verse 9 where they sang a new song saying, You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain and have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation. Friends, if we’re going to believe in old-time religion, we’re going to believe in the saving blood of Christ. Now let’s think of the four things that we’ve noticed from a previous broadcast and even today. Friends, if we’re going to believe and embrace old time religion, let’s embrace the very things that are trustworthy and not to try to find some new thing out there that the Athenians were looking for from Acts 17. When Paul came to preach them, he said, I’m going to speak of the one you worship without knowing him. I am going to take you back to the one who is true and who is proven. His Word, the Bible, believes. We must believe it. We must respect it. We must believe in the virgin birth of His Son. We must believe in the reality of sin and the saving blood of Jesus Christ to redeem us. Friend, it’s guaranteed. These things we are teaching, it’s old-time religion. And it’s necessary for us to have old-time religion, what we’ve talked about, if we want to be saved, and it has stood the test of time. Friends, I want to pause here. Maybe we’ve talked about some things that are going to prompt further study on your behalf. That’s why we are blessed to mail out, and we do so several a week.
