Mike Triem talks with Jeff Archey of International Gospel Hour about the ministry’s long legacy of Bible teaching and what listeners can expect from the daily and weekly broadcasts on KLTT. Jeff shares how the short weekday program offers a convenient devotional for individuals and families, while the Sunday broadcast provides a deeper, more in-depth study of Scripture. He also previews several upcoming messages, including studies on the thief on the cross, looking unto Jesus, and a special lesson for youth.

It’s Mike Trim. I’m here with Jeff Archey with International Gospel Hour. And Jeff, we’re so grateful to have you back again with us.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, thank you, Mike. It’s always good to be on the air with you and hope things are going well out that way.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, you know, it’s been warm and I think it’s supposed to stay warm for the most part. We’re getting some rain. And while weather can be boring to talk about, for us, we really need some rain and snow. So, you know, that’s If you want to pray for that, be grateful.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, indeed.
SPEAKER 02 :
We’ll pay for it with fires if we don’t later in the year. So for our listeners, they’ll hear this in the weeks approaching Easter. So one of the things I wanted to do is remind listeners that at 1230 p.m. on Sundays and then Monday through Friday at 745, I think I have that right, p.m., right?
SPEAKER 01 :
Yes, that’s correct. 745 p.m.
SPEAKER 02 :
And two different programs, you know, some of the people here, these interviews, Jeff, are not familiar with the different formats. So tell us quickly, what’s the daily program like? And then what are they here on the weekends?
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, the daily program, Mike, is, of course, around, oh, it’s around 13 minutes or so. We call it kind of a daily program. It’s very convenient if you’re on the road, if you’re traveling. Then also you can use it as an evening devotional with your family. And you can spend time in the study. Within our studies, we usually mention a couple of tools that folks can use that we will always send or make available absolutely free. All of the things that we offer from our broadcast are free. And on Sundays, we do a 30-minute broadcast. It’s a little bit lengthier to where we will discuss a subject, say, a little bit more in depth. But it doesn’t take away from the depth of the weekdays either. So then on Sunday, we talk about, you know, we offer about three different things people can use and divide up our study together where it’s easy to continue to listen and to have a part with the program. And just a good tool of study, a little bit longer on the Sunday broadcast, rather, and sometimes you’ll find it on a Saturday. But that’s really the difference between really the length of time, but we try to keep the quality top-notch because it is the Word of God. We’re dealing with Scripture and souls have been, and we want to offer our very best no matter what the time.
SPEAKER 02 :
Jeff, when you and I were picking out the times and seeing what we could do, I think one of our thoughts was in the evenings, that’s a great after-dinner time, or for some people that eat later, it might be before dinner, for a devotional with family members. You know, or just individually, if there’s not kids still at home at 745 p.m. and KLTT. And then on the weekend, we loved that around noontime. So after church, typically for a lot of people these days, that gives them a time to kind of have that more in-depth Bible study. So we just love that those two kind of work together.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, thank you, Mike. It’s good to be out there. We’ve always been blessed with our relationship on KLTT and, of course, with Crawford Broadcasting and other stations around the country. And so we’ve been very blessed and appreciate each and every listener.
SPEAKER 02 :
But we, Jeff, like to always talk about some of the upcoming messages. I don’t know how much you can look ahead in terms of what you plan to teach on International Gospel Hour. Can you give us some idea of some of the future messages leading into the next couple of weeks of March?
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, sure. Well, we’ve got something coming up, of course, on our full Sunday broadcast. Now, Mike, is it okay if I mention some dates here? And folks will have to, whenever they hear the interview, know whether we’re coming or going. Is that all right?
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, yeah, I think so. I think if you want to mention dates that are probably, you know – Later in the first week of March and beyond, that should be perfectly, perfectly safe. And if one’s already passed, just, you know, Jeff will mention ones that you can listen to. So just tune in when you can.
SPEAKER 01 :
Exactly. If I happen to mention one that’s already passed, just let folks know. If you go to our website at internationalgospelhour.com, you can access it if you happen to miss one. And so we’ll just let folks know that. But on Sunday, March the 8th, we’re going to relaunch a lesson by Winford Claiborne, who was our second speaker of the International Gospel Hour. I have a number of his… transcripts of lessons that he did and a lot of these lessons we bring back and relaunch if you will that haven’t been heard and probably oh 12 or 13 years but the quality is still good and Winford was an avid reader he would read up to 250 books a year And he would have books scattered throughout his house. He’d read a little in one room, read a little in another. And so we’re blessed to do that. We’re going to be talking about the thief on the cross, Mike. And that program is coming up on March the 9th. We’re going to talk about the last words of a condemned man. We want to take a look at what he said and take a look at that thief on the cross and what he said. and then also place salvation for us today within the right context. Oftentimes, we look toward the thief on the cross, but I often share with people, if you’re looking at the thief on the cross for your salvation, you’re looking at the wrong cross. You look at the cross of Christ, and you see what Christ taught and instructs for us today and to do. What about when we go back to Numbers 21? This one’s coming up called a program, Just Look Up, to where they would look up at that brazen serpent. But think about all the passages. Looking unto Jesus, Hebrews 12. Lift up mine eyes unto the hills. And think of those passages. And so we have a number of those studies we’re going to do. And we’ve got a special study for youth on the 18th of March. Whose son are you? And this is taken from when Saul asked the question of David. when David had taken out the mighty Philistine giant Goliath. And we look at the adults and the lives of youth and the youth’s ability. So we have a variety of studies that we think will be profitable for our listeners. And again, just grateful to be on the air and hope these will be of some interest to folks.
SPEAKER 02 :
Now we’re speaking with Jeff Archey. Jeff is with International Gospel Hour. He is the primary speaker. As Jeff mentioned, there’s a wealth of archives at International Gospel Hour, so they can feature some of the past speakers that were Bible teachers for 40 plus years. Right, Jeff?
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, you know, Winford spoke for 20 years. Our first speaker, V.E. Howard, spoke for 60 years. We’ve been on the air since 1932. So when folks listen to the International Gospel Hour, they’re listening to one of the top two, definitely three, longest running weekly religious programs in the history of radio in this country. That’s staggering, Mike, but we’re very well blessed. I tell people we’re like an old stock. Just keep bearing with us, and we’ll get you some return.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, my. That’s 10 to 12 years before Percy Crawford started teaching. And again, I don’t know exactly the first date that Percy was involved, but it certainly was – before the TV program, some of the things that were in the origins of Crawford Broadcasting Company. Yeah, he came along in 1949. Yeah, so quite a bit later than the earliest speakers on International Gospel Hour. That’s 60 years. Wow. It’s nuts when you hear somebody who’s been celebrating their marriage for 60 years, and you’re talking about somebody preaching the gospel for that long. Incredible. Yes, he did.
SPEAKER 01 :
And did a great job. And, of course, we’ve been on the air. We’re in our 92nd year of broadcasting.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 01 :
And that’s stunning. Let’s talk about our remind people. Oh, go ahead. I’m sorry. No, that’s okay. I was just going to say, and always, to God be the glory. We’re so thankful for the open doors.
SPEAKER 02 :
That’s right. It’s not just a labor. It’s a labor for Christ, right? Exactly. There’s a reason why these incredible teachers kept going with it all these years. And a reason, I think, why God has honored that work so that International Gospel Hour can financially continue. Because let’s be honest, there are ministries, some very good ministries that have come and gone. And International Gospel Hour has, God’s given you now counting towards 100 years. That’s amazing.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, absolutely. And again, we give him all the glory, Mike. We’re so thankful to take the Bible and to study with people, and especially throughout the beautiful state of Colorado, the awesome reach of KLTT. It is amazing the reach you have out in that area. And we’re grateful for each and every listener that we have.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, I hope you hear from some of those outlying areas because that’s part of our heritage with the station. So tell me, kind of my last question as we close is, Talk to our listeners about the richness of having some of those traditional messages. I’m not sure if I’m using the right word, but those heritage messages that they don’t always get to hear, but when you hear them, even if the style might be a little different than what you’re used to, it’s so rich and it’s so worthwhile if you’ll just walk through a different teaching style, perhaps from years ago.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, and it is, and like Winford was such an avid reader, He blended illustrations in very well. And so it’s nice to reach back with those illustrations from some of his reading of years ago and to see how true things are. Now, on occasion, I will reach back and I have some transcripts that are actually from the 70s and the 80s of the late V.E. Howard. And it’s interesting when we’re sharing some of those that sometimes we have to make adjustments because an illustration that made sense then would not make as much sense now. But the scripture, the content is still just as powerful. And Mike, something else we do on our daily broadcast, and I love to do this. I reach back for outlines of preachers who have long passed away. And in the spirit of Abel in Hebrews 11 in verse 4, although they are dead, yet their faith still speaks. Preachers like the late Leroy Brownlow and Fred Dennis, who was well known throughout Ohio and West Virginia. Recently, I did a broadcast of the late R.N. Hogan, and he preached for a number of years in Los Angeles. And it’s a joy to reach back for those outlines and to share them. They’re fresh. They’re relevant. So grateful to have all that material that’s available because, Mike, a lot of our sermon outline books of those preachers are sitting in church libraries, and they’re seldom ever used. But the power of the Word still comes forward, and it’s an honor for me to share those. And I always acknowledge that when I share them on the air.

That’s a great explanation of why you do what you do when you share those messages. That’s really helpful.
