It’s time for our broadcast from the International Gospel Hour. I’m Jay Webb, and welcome to our study today as we embrace God’s Word to help us meet the challenges of today. Let’s open our Bibles and open our heart for this time of Bible study with our speaker Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour, a broadcast of the Churches of Christ.
SPEAKER 01 :
Here’s Jeff. Well, thank you always to our J-Web. And greetings and hello, everyone. Thank you for joining us again for our studies here from the International Gospel Hour. Let me mention very quickly that everything you’ll hear on our broadcast as far as material or offers will always be free. We don’t want your money, friends. You don’t owe us a thing. We are honored that you would request our material. Over the past few years, over the many years, thousands upon thousands have requested material that we offer from our broadcast here. For example, in this broadcast, in a little bit, our J-Web will return. That is a tongue twister, is it not? He will return and talk about our free Bible study course by mail. Yes, that’s right. We’ll send it right to you. And he’ll tell you a little bit more about our friends at ApologeticsPress.org, a great website that will help you in your studies of the Word of God. Concerning our studies, welcome to our Psalmcast. This is where we spend time in the wonderful book of Psalms. And today, our choice is Psalm 16. “‘Preserve me, O God, for in you I put my trust. “‘O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “‘You are my Lord. “‘My goodness is nothing apart from you. “‘As for the saints who are on the earth, “‘they are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight. “‘Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another God. “‘Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, “‘nor take up their names on my lips.’ O Lord, you are the portion of my inheritance and my cup. You maintain my lot. The lions have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance. I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices. My flesh also will rest in hope. For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, or the grave. Nor will you allow your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore. May the Lord bless us with the reading and the hearing and the application of his word. Now, from the very outset, friends, this is known as one of the many Messianic Psalms referring to the Christ. Peter referred to it on Pentecost and applied it to the resurrection of Christ, Acts 2, 25-28. This prophecy was the main point of Peter’s message and the ultimate proof that Christ was who he claimed to be, the Son of God. Peter, or rather Paul, referred to the same prophecy while preaching at Antioch, Acts 13, 35-37. And he also applied it to the resurrection of Christ. For the remainder of our study, might we focus on verse 11. Once again, you will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore. And we will pick up there in a moment. But now, our Jay Webb.

From Psalm 1611, First, let us desire that path of life. May we be led and taught plainly through the word of God this day. In Psalm 2711, Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path because of my enemies. From Psalm 119, verse 35, Make me to go in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight. In Proverbs 2, verse 9, Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity, yea, every good path. Psalm 25 and verse 4, Show me thy ways, O Lord, teach me thy paths. Folks, do you see the word path through all these texts? That when we follow the way, the commands, the delight therein, the righteousness, the judgment, the teaching, that we are able to walk the path. It was Jesus who said in John 14, 6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. I am the way, so if I follow Christ who is the way. That keeps me looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12.2 Jesus leads us in the path of life. And friends, may we embrace walking in a path that leads us to life eternal and each day seeing what God provides. Again, from Psalm 16, verse 11, second, let us see the fullness of joy. On the path of life, God provides the joy for those that follow Him. You know, when you think about it, here’s an individual that hears the wonderful gospel of Christ. They hear of that wonderful message of the death, burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15, 1 through 4. They hear the message, the good news that will make the difference in their lives. That’s what they’ve been looking for. And you know it’s interesting when we see Romans 10, 17 that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. And there’s joy. There’s that excitement to grow, to learn more. And then we see where faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Then the person believes. You know, it’s interesting that in Acts 16 and verse 30 and 31, when the jailer asked, what must I do to be saved? Peter, or rather Paul and Silas replied, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you’ll be saved and your house. But you know, folks, the account doesn’t stop there. we see that the jailer was instructed what to believe and what to do in verses 31-34. You see, James 2.19 says, The devils believe, yet they tremble. So I don’t want the faith of a devil or a demon. I want a faith that will move me, just like the faith of Abraham moved him. Genesis 12, Romans 4, Galatians 3. Faith that moves us toward obedience and the joy of believing in Christ and wanting to know more. And then when we believe in Christ, we’re going to believe in His teachings, will we not? When Jesus instructed in Luke 13, 3 to repent of our sins and had repentance as part of the Great Commission to be preached to all nations, Luke 24, 44 and following, Imagine how they felt on the day of Pentecost when they were pricked in the heart that they had crucified the Christ. And the first word out of Peter’s mouth to answer their question, what shall we do, was repent. Or in other words, change your decision and change your direction. That is great joy, friends. That people can change their lives. What about joy in confessing our faith? Romans 10, 9 and 10. With the heart man believes unto righteousness, with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. What joy to confess that Jesus is the Son of God, like that eunuch did in verse 37. And if you ever consider one that is baptized, take the eunuch. They came to water, he was baptized. He came up and went on his way rejoicing. Think about those on the day of Pentecost when they were baptized, Acts 2, verse 41. And we find how they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and in fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers. You know, friends, there’s joy at every part of God’s plan of salvation for man. There’s joy at hearing, joy at believing, joy at repentance, joy at confession, and joy at baptism that washes those sins away, Acts 22, 16. And then the Christian begins that faithful walk. And then we come across such a wonderful passage as Romans 12, verse 12. rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. That when the trials come that would challenge our joy, we have the joy provided as we rejoice in hope, continuing steadfastly in prayer, and we squeeze those tribulations there in the middle. Notice with me, third, let us embrace assurance of the pleasures forevermore. The king will say one day to those on his right hand, Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matthew 25, 34. Friends, forget the so-called religious right. I want to be on God’s right hand. For that is a pleasure forevermore. Friends, have we prompted you to think about some things today that you’d like to study further and research a little bit more? What I mentioned earlier, now’s the time.
