Friends, can you believe there was a time when there were children of God that no longer had delight in God? How could that be, and what can we learn? Well, that’s coming up today from the International Gospel Hour. Please stay right here.
SPEAKER 02 :
Hi, this is Jay Webb for International Gospel Hour. For 90 years, churches of Christ have proclaimed God’s Word through International Gospel Hour. You are about to listen to another Bible-based lesson with Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour, starting now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, thank you to our J-Web, and greetings to all of you. Great having you with us today. And it is indeed a joy, and well, it is a delight to have each and every listener of the International Gospel Hour broadcast. We appreciate you and may your desire to be to pursue truth with us, to know said truth as Jesus stated in John 8, 31 and 32. Such search for truth is sought with an honest heart, a diligent search, and through the word of God we can know God’s will for our lives. Let’s begin our study today with our lesson text of Jeremiah 6, beginning with verse 10 through verse 15. To whom shall I speak and give warning that they may hear? Indeed, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot give heed. Behold, the word of the Lord is a reproach to them, they have no delight in it. Verse 13, Verse 13, Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is given a covetousness. And from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely. They have also healed the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace, peace. when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. Therefore, they shall fall among those who fall. At the time I punish them, they shall be cast down, says the Lord. Friends, may the Lord always bless us with the reading and the hearing and the application of His Word. During the time of Jeremiah’s teaching, the southern tribe Judah was involved in idolatry and was simply disobedient to God. They were not faithful to God. Jeremiah the prophet pleaded and pleaded. God’s mercy was great, but would not correct the children of God because of their rebellion. Again, they would not heed his word, nor they had any delight in the Lord. Imagine that. walking away from God in whom all blessings flow. Gracious listening audience, let’s learn from this account and let’s see what happens when one has no delight or joy in the Lord. But first, a few words from our J-Web.

SPEAKER 03 :
Friends, there is no delight in God when one no longer loves or reads the Word of God. Now, back to our lesson text of Jeremiah 6, the latter part of verse 10. The Word of the Lord is a reproach to them. They have no delight in it. That’s totally opposite of the individual in Psalm 1 and verse 2 whose delight is in the law of the Lord. An individual that has no delight in God and no longer loves or reads God’s Word is allowing himself or herself to be brought into captivity to the law of sin, Romans 7, verse 23, which is that individual’s law. They create their own thinking. When an individual no longer desires to pick up the Bible daily and ceases to see God’s Word and His will for his or her life, Friends, beware and watch out because nothing good is coming. It is the beginning, friends. God’s Word is the lamp that leads us, Psalm 119, 105. And within God’s Word, the Word of God are words that will judge, John 12, 48. There is no other gospel according to Galatians 1, 6 through 9. And when one ceases loving or desiring the blessed word of God and will just go by whatever man may say, rebellion will step in and rebellion will eventually sit in. Is this where you are, dear friend? With no delight in God? Second, there is no delight in God when material gain is before spiritual gain. Now again, verse 13 of Jeremiah 6. Everyone is given to covetousness. Now, according to Ephesians 5.5, covetousness is also called idolatry. A covetous man who is an idolater. He has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Idolatry or putting other things before God is so evident today. When one desires the things of the world that places dedication and service to God secondary, they will choose carefree living over communion. They will place personal priorities over prayer. They want to gain the world over giving to God and so-called freedom over faithfulness. Friends, watch out. Beware. The Word of God is cast aside and the things of this world to fulfill our lust and satisfactions. It just moves one further away from God. There is no more delight. Their delight is in the things of the world. Friend, I ask again, is this where you are? Third, there is no delight in God when we do not test teaching. Verse 13, Jeremiah warned, from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely. From the prophet to the priest? Saying peace, peace, when there is no peace? Supposedly, the religious leaders are saying things that are not being tested. Well, plain and simply lying, if you will. That’s one of the things that the Lord hates, Proverbs 6, 19. It will cause a man to lose his soul, Revelation 21, 8. I mean, but what would one expect? I mean, if one has no delight in the word of the Lord, then why take it to test the teaching of man when they’re going to keep looking for things that will satisfy them, not what will satisfy God? Friends, not for one moment or one thought should error be allowed, Galatians 2, 4 and 5. And when one desires man’s thinking, denominational teaching, man-made creation over God’s teaching, what the Bible says, when theories and guesses mean more than certainties and grounding of the Word of God, and they’re desiring things to appeal to them and fit what they want, watch out, friends, that’s danger. With what we listen to religiously, friends, and I will include our broadcast here from International Gospel Hour, Do we search the Scriptures to see if those things are correct? Jesus told those in His time to search the Scriptures. He said, In them you think you have eternal life, and they are they which testify of Me. They were speaking against who Christ was. Jesus told them, Search the Scriptures. See if I am not correct. John 5, 39. In Acts 17, 10 and 11, those in Berea. They were more noble or more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. See what is said here, or any broadcast, and, friends, put such teaching up against God’s word, and test what is said, friends, but only with the word of God. You see, we will have no delight in God when we allow false teaching to go unchecked. Here’s a fourth one. There is no delight in God when we lose our sense of shame. Back to Jeremiah 6.15. They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. Simply put, it’s an abomination. Verse 15. An abomination is mentioned 117 times, rather, in the Old Testament. Quite simply, it is a detestable lifestyle. And yet we find those that wish to be highly esteemed among men that walk in abominations, Luke 16, 15. One is hardened through the deception of sin. Language does not bother us. Immodest apparel doesn’t affect us. Dishonest government officials are affirmed and voted for. Honesty has gone by the wayside. We see decisions made, men turning into women, women turning into men. Surgeries that move one from the creation of God to whatever man wants. And friends, it seems like we lose a sense of shame and we cannot blush. Well, when we lay aside the Word of God, we place pleasure for self above what is pleasing to God. We follow anything that will come along. Well, yes, friends, it will whittle down one’s sense of shame. Gracious listener, I ask again, is this where you are? It is high time that delight in God be restored, and it begins with our hearts. What we want to do, friends, is begin with a special free offer of study for you.
