Welcome, everyone, to The Calling’s radio show to all the dreamers. I’m your radio host, Chrysandra Brunson, founder and CEO of The Calling. And it is such an honor to be with all of you today. You know, at The Calling, we have realized that so many people are afraid to go after the dreams that God has put inside of their hearts. because they are afraid to fail. And that is just plain wrong, because if God has given us a dream and we’re not living it out, we are wasting it, and we do not want to die with regret. That’s why we love to inspire, empower, and equip people to live out God’s dreams on their lives, to reap the best kind of harvest, a long-lasting legacy to have immediate impact on themselves and their families. Rex, thank you so much for being on here. We are just so honored and humbled. Oh!
REX CRAIN :
Well, thank you so much for having me. What an exciting opportunity to be here and all the great stuff that you’re doing and the way you’re being a voice to unlock and unleash so many great things inside of people.
CHRYSANDRA :
Aw, thank you, Rex. Well, you are not only just a world-renowned guest, but you’re the dearest of friends and role models and examples to my heart and to millions around the world. Rex, can you just share some of the roles and the impact that you have had in this world thus far, in these early years? Okay.
REX CRAIN :
Yeah, exactly. You know, I come from a background of playing professional sports. So I was an athlete and playing professional baseball. And I felt a real sense of calling in a conversation. I believe that conversations can unlock so much. So this is what’s pretty cool. I was on an airplane and I met a 76 year old woman. And through a conversation, a world began to exist on the inside that I really wasn’t aware of. And I think there was clues to it, but the right conversation, it unlocked, it triggered, it ignited something. It awakened something in me. And I began to have this question in my mind going, am I cheating on my future with what’s really comfortable? And I began to sense that God really called me into being a speaker to help people find clues that they’d be able to walk out, live destiny. So that’s been something I’ve done for about 24 years now. It ages me a little bit, but that’s all good. Yeah. You know, it started predominantly in the community of the church world. And then that really, really broke out about 2007 within both business and government and different ideas of that nature. And today that’s a really neat opportunity. I get both opportunities to where I was just speaking at Facebook a couple of weeks ago to, you know, to speaking in a church tomorrow night, which will be fantastic and helping hurting people. And so it’s great because so much challenge is on this planet right now, as we’ve seen over the last couple of years. And people are feeling so uncertain about where things are financially, emotionally, relationally. And I think that stress and that strain is robbing people of even the resolve of their goals. Maybe they even set up here about three weeks ago to start a new year and a new them. And so this is a really great place to conversation today. And I hope that really unlock and maybe pivot that for people and they can turn maybe some regret into resolve and really become strong on the inside to be able to handle life on the outside.
CHRYSANDRA :
Wow. Well, Rex, I know, and I know that everyone can even tell right now that you are one of this world’s greatest speakers and influencers on the planet. And the calling and I have been so humbled that you’ve been a part of so many of our events and a really special part of our heartbeat as an organization. You spoke at Red Rocks Amphitheater with Switchfoot back in the day and Just to be able to hear how God is just allowing that to be a ripple effect. What would you say, Rex, is your pulse on humanity right now with what’s going on and what we need to hear to be able to keep on chasing after our calling?
REX CRAIN :
Well, I think the pulse on humanity, I think people, their confidence got shook. And obviously the last couple of years, so much uncertainty where things that we counted on, things that we believed in, we questioned everything. And so, so much skepticism got inside of the heart of humanity, especially the heart of even people who believe in the beauty and the wonder of their dreams or in the good goodness of God and where they begin to question. And that’s created such a sense of powerlessness. You see this, right? You see this across the planet. And I feel like powerlessness is the root of all negative emotion. You know, people feel powerless to change their past. They feel guilty, condemned. And, you know, they feel powerless to change their future. They feel scared. But when people feel powerless to change their present, you start to feel depressed and angry, cynical, and it starts to put you in a shutdown mode in your heart. The Bible says a hope or a dream that’s been deferred or diminished, it breaks your heart. And I think that’s where people are and they’ve lost that courage and they’ve lost that sense of, I have the power to create this, I have the power to cause this. And they’re waiting for something or someone to come along and make it happen, including God. And I think the reality is Most people, the help they’re looking for is at the end of their own hand. And the scripture says, when you have a slack hand, you become poor. And if you have a hand that’s really, really diligent, determined and disciplined, you can make your life really, really rich. And so I believe more than anything right now, helping people reclaim the life they were meant to live and taking their future, even their present out of the hands of other people’s opinions of how they’re supposed to live their life. You got one incredible opportunity and, you know, don’t be vague, thoughtless and foolish about it, but sense what’s vital and of real value. And you have such a short span of life. I don’t want to waste it living out someone’s idea or role for me. I don’t believe God is auditioning other people for my role. And I believe his calling is calling us out of a place of powerlessness to reclaim because nothing’s going to change till I do. Your future is going nowhere without you. No one’s dreams going nowhere without you. The dream came from free, but the work and the hustle comes from you. And I think that’s a powerful idea, recognizing that I do have a place in pivoting and making a new set of decisions that will allow me to reach beyond my current place of maybe sadness, frustration, or maybe a place I’m just even just coping or just coasting along back to a place of creating and causing the future.
CHRYSANDRA :
Couldn’t say it better, Rex. And I think that we’re going to be able to have this so everyone can listen to that again. Everyone’s tuning in. You guys, I know everything that Rex is saying, you want to repeat because it does completely shift and change your life. Rex, how can you see all those seeds being planted in your heart?
REX CRAIN :
Well, I think this would be great because this would echo something that you do so well at and teach people is your calling leaves clues. And I think most people have studied similarities to other people. And we’ve made life so about watching other people that we’ve never studied our calling or are different. I believe our calling is in our difference. Your similarity to somebody else, it creates comfort, but it’s your different and your calling that creates your rewards. So I look at there’s a couple of clues. And if I’m going to live my life worthy of my calling, that means I’m going to step up to what God has spoken over my life. I love that. It’s not where you are. It’s really who you are. But here’s the clues. Number one is there are certain things in me that I love to learn about, think about. And I think that’s a clue to me. I don’t like to go study electronics. I don’t like to go study cars or change. I don’t like to study how to fix teeth or certain things. But I believe that there is a gift in you. And part of that is in your calling where you discover what is the reoccurring thing that I love to talk about, think about, learn about. For me, I love to talk about how do we help people feel better, make better decisions, get healed in their life. I hate watching people. struggle and suffer when they could do something, make a wise decision and get out of a bad spot. That’s constantly in my conversations. I read about it. I study it. I think about it. And so I believe that’s a clue to some of the wisdom or part of the gifting that I’m called to create. I also believe that most of all, we would discover that calling is really is understanding what draws the compassion out of me. If I can understand what draws the compassion out of me, or you can understand what draws the compassion out of you, not just simply like, Hey, that sucks. That’s going on the world. Oh, that really bothers me that that person’s hurt. But it really gets under your skin where it drives you. Like it really bothers you. If I can discover what draws the compassion out of me, I will recognize what God has created me as a human to bring healing to me. your caring at a high level qualifies you to be a cure that means you can stop waiting for a social worker somebody else to get involved some other advocate some other pastor some other leader i don’t need to complain about what’s not happening the fact that i care about handicapped people the fact that i care about people going through cancer the care that i care about maybe kids learning to read or people having hurting teeth or people may be in situations where they’re really oppressed. The fact that I care, it qualifies me that God has anointed me. He’s empowered me to bring healing and to bring cure there. Don’t let your life and your calling be about recovery alone. Let it be about discovery. In fact, most of your healing will happen as you get involved in other people’s recovery, where you’re making a difference. AA gets this very, very well. And they do it in a humanistic way. But how much more about Jesus? He takes people, gave him sturdy projects. You have a cussing Peter, a Dalton, Prozac, some Xanax, Judas, computer nerd, Andrew. And yet, well, they’re all going through a healing process, a renewing process. He had them bringing healing, hope, and unlocked a world of possibility. And it changed their destiny. And finally, a big clue to your calling is in conquering. I believe the biggest challenge that you have before you, part of your calling is conquering. God wants to bring that thing that looks so big to nothing through his grace and power. And you have the ability to conquer it if you’re willing to challenge it. Some of us, we would love God to do it for us, but he doesn’t want to do it for you. He wants to do it with you. And if you recognize that some of my biggest challenges, God’s already prepared an opportunity for me to bring those freaking things down, to defeat those things. Then in part of that, and that calling is challenging those things with the power of Jesus’s name, the truth of it. word, the power in the blood, and being able to run at those things and take those freaking things down, whether that’s a debt, whether that’s divorce that plagues your mind from the past. Maybe that’s a broken relationship. Maybe it’s guilt over decisions you made to compromise your integrity. But when you stop sitting, settling, and waiting for those things, your calling can begin to really emerge saying, I’m coming out of my shell. That’s why the Bible says, wake up the mighty men and women. Let the weak say they’re strong. not feel they’re strong, not hope they’re strong, declare they’re strong. I want to challenge every person to wake up today, no matter where you are, whether you’re in a cocoon of defeat, maybe you’ve been losing to abuse, losing to painful relationships, losing to maybe like a problem with an eating disorder. Let today be a day you make a decision. I’m not going to stay here. I’m going to get up again. Like the Bible says, a righteous person falls down seven times without bounce back power. They’re going to get back up again today and reclaim that life and take a shot and conquer that freaking giant in front of you as part of your call.

I’m your host, Chrysandra Brunson, and we have the one and only Rex Crain on with us, who is a former Boston Red Sox player, world-renowned speaker, influencer, and again, the dearest of friends. And Rex, thank you so much for igniting our hearts. to be able to chase after and declare that jesus is he is the best in store for us today this moment right now and if someone is in that pit right now rex is that would you say the number one thing is to start saying declaring that over themselves
REX CRAIN :
I think I would do three things. And if I could give that to our listeners quickly, it was in a scripture that’s in the Bible where it says that God was telling a young guy who was a leader, but he was facing anxiety, uncertainty by the world around him, the people closest to him and where he was second guessing himself named Timothy in the Bible. And this came from a mentor, a coach of his named Paul. And he said this, he says, I don’t want you to give up on the real sincere faith that’s in you. No matter how you may feel today, faith doesn’t make things easy for you today. It just makes things possible for you today. And I want to remind you, faith isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision. And don’t give up just because you don’t feel it. You’re not what you feel, you’re what you decide. You can decide to believe again, decide to hope again, decide to commit again. Come on, even if you broke your commitment, decide to reclaim your integrity today. You can make the choice and God can make the change, but it all begins with a decision of faith. Your decisions, not your conditions, will determine how your destiny plays out. not your past. Your history does not equal your destiny. I’ve changed your psychology there. You’re a product of it, not a prisoner. But then you have to have three things. And Paul told this to Timothy. He said, I want you to stir up the gift that’s in you. Don’t be paralyzed by what you don’t have. Most people said, if I have this, if I knew that person, if I had the money, if I had the degree, if I had the knowledge, don’t let a lack of resources, keep you from activating what you do have your miracles, never in what you lost. You’re never miracles, never in what you have. Someone has taken from you. It’s in something you currently have. That’s why the scripture always tells you strengthen what’s in your hand. stabilize what’s in your hand if i’m working with a company let’s stabilize our resources not just create let’s stabilize what we have in our hand look at the relationships the love the goodness the abilities the ideas some of the compassion things that ignited inside you i still have this in my hand they did not go anywhere so i want you to stir that up a little bit inside of you god gives you a sound mind how do i live with a sound mind attach a great meaning to where you are Don’t attach the meaning of, is this the end? I deserve the pain that I’m going through. Man, will I ever recover? What if you had a new thought process that would induce creating a sound mind for you, which the Bible says is life to your body and mind. And you said this to yourself, this will end well. It doesn’t mean everything is well right now. This will end well. Why? Because God’s a finisher of what he starts in your life. So you might be in the middle of a mess, the middle of a mistake, the middle of misery. But suffering happens when you get stuck there. Pain. happens to everybody misery is a choice you don’t have to suffer today life’s too short to suffer decide i’m going to live in a beautiful state of mind because god give me a sacred gift this day is crowned with favor that means there’s new opportunity coming your way based on the goodness of god not your performance and the reality is this is going to end well Start saying that this is going to end well over my relationships, over my money. Number two, I need to recapture my spirit of love. And what I mean by that, you’re affected by the presence and absence of love. Today, don’t play hard to get with love. What are you doing with God’s love? Are you rejecting it or receiving it, making it your own? Receive that today. That means forgiving yourself. You can love what God loves, even your faults, flaws, and all. God knows that. And look for ways to show that demonstrate kindness, look for ways to improve people, to magnify the positive and think about if you’re a lover, what is the main feeling I want to cultivate in the relationships that I’m in? What’s the feeling? Let it begin with you. Don’t wait to see if it’s going to be a good engagement. Let it be with you. And then you’ve got to find that spirit of power inside you. God says that the power of his word, the power that raised Jesus from the dead, it works when you work it. You have the power. Jesus said to forgive the day. You have the power to speak God’s word and let it become the past. When I spoke at the Pentagon, they have an eye print to get you into some access. They have a fingerprint to get you into some other access. But only certain high clearance of access gets you there with your voice print. When you begin to speak God’s word, number one, 85% of your emotional states come from your voice and what you speak with your words. But you have access to the things of God when you begin to speak his word over your life. Daniel says angels came to him and got him out of a bad place because of the words he spoke, not the prayer he prayed, the words he spoke, Daniel 10, 12.
REX CRAIN :
And then you have power to heal other people. Stop waiting. Will God? No, no, no. Stop stepping into it. Take authority over the works of the enemy. Don’t, don’t let them exist. Jesus, whatever you permit will permit. Nope. I resist it. That gets pushed back. Get regressive. Like you woke up in the middle of the night with too many bed sheets on and Get aggressive and say, no, no, no. Enemy, you’re not going to take my mind. You’re not going to take my future. You ain’t taking my family. You ain’t taking my dreams. You ain’t taking my heart. You might’ve had me in my past, but that’s power. That’s defeated today. I’m reclaiming the spirit of power that God gave me. And I’m going to live up in this down world.
CHRYSANDRA :
Amen. Thank you so much, Rex. And when you realize, how did you see this shift happening in you, Rex, to be able to start declaring this over your life, to live in this victorious mindset, and to be able to see how that is unraveling in a ripple effect to our destinies of really what heaven on earth looks like?
REX CRAIN :
I had a great model that when I was coming out of baseball, he said to me, he says, Rex, don’t try to go learn all the different new rules of being a Christian. He said, go read the miracles and study and live in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, read it out loud. And after every miracle, say, if you can do it, I can do it. If you can do it, I can do it. If you can do it, Jesus, I can do it. And that get it in you, get it in you that the life of Jesus is possible for you. Cause I don’t believe Jesus didn’t come just to show us what he could do. I believe that Jesus came to show us what you can do because he now lives inside you. And if Christ is in you, then to demand, Hey, you know, I’m just a cell for an average existence. Come on. Is Jesus getting everything he purchased for you and what he gave, he gave it all. And I think having an understanding of, wait a second, Jesus didn’t tolerate storms. He didn’t tolerate things. He was confronted by people talking bad about him, negativity with governments. all kinds of situations around him but he did not let the world around him define the world within him and that inside hey i’m going to take back control and i’m going to live it the way god wanted me to live it so god does something number one genesis 2 7 says he formed a man and then he breathed into him today i want you to put form around your potential No one can do that for you. God works with you, not just for you. And that means you have to have a mind. Put some form around. What are you gonna do? What’s a new habit you’re gonna take? What will life be about for you in 2023? What are you gonna be aggressive about? And then breathe some oxygen into it. Get around other people. Get around the calling. Join us here when we’re on this live broadcast. Let people breathe oxygen on that dream, on that hope of your calling. Get around other dreamers so you start to think that way. You hang out with wise people, you stack up wisdom. You hang out with fools who belittle your dreams, you suffer harm. So let’s be wise. Get around that oxygen and then breathe energy. Breathe inspiration. Breathe action into it. Your faith works when you work it. Yeah, let’s stay an idea. You know, if you have a slack hand, you become poor. Let today be a day where you decide, hey, I’m going to do something, go for a walk, tell someone I love them, I forgive them. Declare something, get aggressive in your life. The Bible says your authority, your prosperity happens when there’s a shout inside you that God says, I take pleasure when my kid prospers. So today, maybe reclaim your shout. You know, do something today to put some force. and some inspiration, some action behind what you actually believe could happen.
CHRYSANDRA :
I think that everyone tuning in Rex right now just wants to shout. And you guys, just for everyone tuning in, Rex has been part of the miracle of healing, Jesus healing me, a Lyme disease back in the day. He came and spoke at Red Rocks. He even traveled down to Haiti. Okay. And Rex, what has been one of your most favorite moments within the calling?
REX CRAIN :
You know, being able to be an incredible part of initially what we did at Red Rocks with what you did to be able to put 12,000 people in a venue and to see so many people’s lives impacted and changed and how the colleagues had so many different ways to minister and meet people’s needs and meet people where they are. So there’s been great engagement from being in a college there and speaking with you to doing some great things on the radio and watching your influence and impact. And then also, of course, traveling down to Haiti was amazing. And I actually did reflect today a little bit about having the opportunity to be able to pray and release God’s healing presence into your life on that Sunday back some years ago. And, you know, God’s promise for you was he healed you. And yet you were dealing with the problem of battling an issue that had been a reoccurring challenge. And watching, I think, being a part of that and being a part of God touching your life in a really powerful way. Those are some incredible memories. I like to visit those memories because there’s really great. There’s some really, really great history there. But I love what the calling is doing because it’s opening people up. And no matter where they are in their life, there is more. They can see more. They can say more and they can stretch into more.
CHRYSANDRA :
Well, we couldn’t imagine a better spokesperson, Rex, be able to communicate our message, God’s message for the calling and be able to do that in so many different outlets and all the things that are to come, the global conferences and just being able to unlock and unleash like your book that we want to tell everybody about. That’s what people can do in their lives. We are coming up towards the end of our show and time goes by so quickly, but we would love you back sooner than later. Can you just share if someone had to hear one thing to be able to change their life today to go after what their God given calling is, what would you tell them?
REX CRAIN :
Yeah, don’t lose your present to your past. That was then and this is now. The very fact that you’re breathing is evidence God knows the earth needs something you have. And the real battle is not between always evil and good. Sometimes it’s between less and more. Most of us don’t choose the worst life. We just don’t choose the best. But this planet in your life is made better by the person you choose to become. No matter how big the setback or disappointment has been in your life, even what you’re feeling right now, I stand behind this because I’ve seen it work in my own life. In the midst of intense setback and challenge, God said, I will give you a comeback and beyond, and it will be better than what you think if you’re willing to trust me. And trust that means I just sit there and waited. It means, yes, I’m going to do it. And yes, I’m going to invest in it today. Invest in your calling. Do you stop doing everybody else and doing everything else in your life? Decide to do you reclaim the driver’s seat of your life? There’s mercy and there’s grace. Sign the death certificate on your past. Bury him in the power of Christ’s blood. It’s truly powerful enough to cleanse you from your past. and your future and keep you cleansed and also give you God’s life, his DNA inside you. You come from a DNA, if you’re in Christ, of supernatural champions. Moses was a murderer, became a deliverer. Esther became a hero to her people. Nehemiah was a great builder in a time of challenge. And you have heroism inside of your DNA today. You have greatness inside of your DNA. And I want to challenge you, challenge that ability. Stop waiting for life to challenge you. You’re uncertain times. You can’t afford to wait. And when everything else is planned in the world, this demands that you make a new decision. What will you focus on? Will you focus on where you’ve been? Will you focus on what’s happened to you? Will you focus on what you can create and what you can do? Focus on immediately the meaning, a new meaning you can attach. Is where you are the end or the beginning? Is this misery or a miracle? And what is one thing I can immediately do to activate my faith to begin to act as if God’s really going to come through for me? I would put that back inside you and I would begin to rejoice because when you rejoice, your state changes. Fear and anger, your two most negative emotions get wiped out when you get into a place of rejoicing, gratefulness, and you express it. And so today’s decisions are tomorrow’s realities. Let this be a to say where you decide.
CHRYSANDRA :
