Here’s Jeff. Well, thank you to our J-Web and greetings to all of you. It’s great having you today as we study together the Word of God and to consider the question or the statement, why so many are lost? You know, to be lost in sin is truly an eternal tragedy. Sadly, the majority has always been unsaved. When we look in the scripture in Noah’s day, only eight entered the ark of safety, 1 Peter 3.20. Multitudes followed evil men, Exodus 23.2. And they even forgot the value of their souls, Mark 8.36. Out of 603,000, only two, Joshua and Caleb, entered the promised land. In the first century, only a handful followed Jesus while the masses of humanity agreed to his crucifixion, John 6, 67. And today ungodly folk wax worse and worse, 2 Timothy 3.13. It is extremely unpopular to be a Christian in our era while the ambassadors of licentiousness prosper on every hand. And it takes courage to stand up for Jesus in our society today because there are so many that laugh the Lord to scorn, Mark 5 and verse 40. May we always have the charge from the old hymn, To Christ be loyal and be true, He needs brave volunteers. to stand against the powers of sin, moved not by frowns or fears. In spite of God’s marvelous grace, Titus 2, verse 11, the precious blood of Christ, 1 Peter 1, 19, the power of the gospel, Acts 20, verse 24, the concern of genuine Christians, Romans 10, verse 18, and the compassion of the Lord’s church, 1 Timothy 3, verse 15, friends, still millions, yes, billions, are marching toward hell. God has a perfect plan capable of saving lost mankind, James 1, 21 and 22, but few seem willing to accept it and humbly obey. All are invited, Matthew 11, 28, but multitudes rudely reject the Father’s will, John 5, verse 40. In the judgment sorrow will flow like a river and anguish will be propounded because golden moments were squandered by indifferent folk who had the opportunity to be redeemed but chose rather to reject the glad tidings of salvation. Acts 13.46 O friends, the old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me. For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear it to dark Calvary. Praise be to God that He has given us redemption through Christ. In the last paragraph of the Bible, it even implores urgently, Whosoever will, let him come. Friends, let’s study the question further. Why are so many still lost when redemption is nigh? Well, perhaps these are the major reasons. First, many attempt to guide themselves. However, Jeremiah 10, verse 23, Romans 10, 1 through 3, and Deuteronomy 12, 8, express the folly of sinful men’s attempting such an impossible task. Number two, postponing obedience is a grave mistake. Mankind has no premium on time, and life, at best, is brief and uncertain, Genesis 27, 2. The folly of delay is one of Satan’s greatest ploys, Proverbs 27, 1. And we must seek the Lord now, Isaiah 55, 6. A third reason, well, many will not walk the narrow way. But friends, all truth is narrow. We still have the same letters in the alphabet, the same multiplication table. Pharmacies are accurate in filling the doctor’s orders. And friends, God’s way cannot be altered either. The way that leads home to heaven is straight. The road to hell is haphazard and nebulous. Many sinners wish to write their own prescription for glory and invest their own standard of truth, Proverbs 14, 12. But that final day will be a disaster for them. I’ll give you a fourth one. Because of false teachers. Elders of the church are commanded to convict gainsayers, Titus 1, verse 9, because many false prophets are in the world, 1 John 4, verse 1. When we allow error to overwhelm the beauty of the gospel, we do greatly err, Ephesians 5.11. Only truth makes us free, John 8.32, and the pollution of false doctrine contaminates the stream of righteousness. We cannot allow the servants of the devil successfully to peddle their wares, 2 Peter 2.1.

Might we suggest indifference? Perhaps this is the crux of the whole matter. So many who are well aware of their responsibility to their Maker just never get around to obedience. But, forcefully, John 12, 48 informs us that those who reject the teaching of Christ will meet those very commands in the judgment. Those who teach that it makes no difference what we believe will come to realize the absurdity of such a doctrine. Luke 6, 46 What if Christ had been as indifferent toward the way of our redemption as so many today? But He wasn’t. Oh, how much He was willing to bear, and with what anguish and loss Jesus went to the cross, but He carried my sins with Him there. Such matchless love ought to compel us joyously and thoroughly to respond to the message of Calvary. Rather than indifference, John 1.11 says, We ought energetically to rush to the bleeding side of the Savior and rapt attention to heaven’s demands. I have a great delight in the wonderful things above. God in His power and might is showing His truth in love. So, friends, may all right-thinking people cease from spurning God’s grace and press eagerly into the realm of the redeemed. So many are lost, but that need not be the case. Let us obey now what we know now. Friends, indeed, let us do so. This is an urgent matter, and we have dealt with things that steer people away. Well, friends, we want to be able to steer many, everyone as possible, to the cross of Christ.
