You know, we just, John, bottom line is you’re on the other side of the Mississippi. We just kind of feel like you’re way out there. It doesn’t matter where exactly.

The way our winter’s been, I think I was on the West Coast. We have had very little snow and it’s been 60 degrees plus.

Global warming is true in Denver, just not football in Michigan.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. You know, I was going to say something about surviving the Super Bowl, and people might go, well, I’m sure they’re going to talk about Bad Bunny and that whole thing. And we are. But I think what I first mean is that was the most boring Super Bowl game I think I’ve ever seen. And I barely got through it. Barely. I don’t know. Did you guys watch it?
SPEAKER 02 :
I watched it and it was until the end, of course, to the last quarter, it was, yeah, it was just, I mean, I get it, you know, it’s defense and all of that, but man, just boring as all get, which really quick for all those that say the NFL scripts games and so on. Yeah, no, they would have made that game a lot more exciting had it been scripted. You mean good grief, a wrestling match was better than that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, I mean, let’s face it. When you see that the score is 12-0 and you realize, oh, my goodness, there’s been four field goals and that’s about it. Nobody’s punched it in.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, that’s not scripted, guys. Come on. Anybody says that doesn’t know what they’re talking about. You know what?
SPEAKER 03 :
Second half of the fourth quarter was not bad.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, it was good.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, that was about it. I agree. Yeah, I agree with you. That was about it. I was flipping channels.
SPEAKER 04 :
John, the way Bob got through it was he had this special app that put Detroit Lions uniforms on all the Seattle players. Oh, there we go. Exactly.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, you know what, Kate? Did you see Kid Rock wore a blue Detroit Lions blue Detroit hat during his TPUSA thing? Is he from Detroit? Oh, yeah. I didn’t know that. Oh, yeah. He’s very connected here in Detroit.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right. Well, we got a lot to talk about today, none the least of which is feedback. I don’t want to beat a dead horse here. There’s been a lot of conversation about the Super Bowl and the choice of the halftime entertainment. I’ll put that in quotes with Bad Bunny being the choice of the NFL. Turning Point USA put out an alternative program featuring Kid Rock and a few others. uh and i just i wanted to get your general impression if you guys watch that but just you know i i watched it because i knew i had to i didn’t want to it was not of interest to me but i did have it on i was watching the alternative you know uh event with kid rock and so forth on my cell phone and there was a lot of commotion in the room there was a lot of people there so i didn’t get much of anything regarding either but i did see both And just wanted to kind of talk about it today because obviously it’s been a major issue on Christian radio stations and in Christian media. So, guys, your thoughts about this thing? Some people are saying, hey, look, Bad Bunny didn’t burn the American flag and didn’t do anything, quote, overtly bad. And I know that’s debatable. But anyway, so what’s the big deal? And what are you, just anti-Hispanic people or something, anti-Latino people? Anyway, we can talk about it, but let me start with John on this one. John, any thoughts about what we saw there?
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, I talked about this earlier in the week as well. I’m sure you guys did. I’m probably going to get criticized for this, but I rated both shows a 5. I didn’t think either one of them went over the top. The last song Kid Rock did in the very last part of the last song he did was great. That was a 10 across the board. But as far as the actual… you know presentation and all of that went it was a meh for me on on both sides of the aisle i will give the folks at the nfl and uh the the producers of that particular show kudos for the set and all of that yeah the words and what we’re finding now and there might even be some fcc fines coming down for bad bunny because of the the language that none of us could hear because i don’t speak spanish and don’t know too many people that do now given all of that again i give the set a 10 The performance, I don’t know Bad Bunny from Good Bunny, so the reality is I don’t know anything about that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, the difference is Good Bunny’s go to heaven, Bad Bunny’s go to hell.
SPEAKER 02 :
There we go. I don’t know. And real quick, I do want to say this, and I think this is my criticism of our side at times. We have to be better, and what I mean by that is TPUSA, great. They did a great job, great show, all of that. Too long. They know exactly how long that halftime segment for the NFL is. It’s published. You know what it is. Don’t go over because what we did where I was at, I was at a sports bar watching it because I don’t pay for TV. Anyways, I was at a sports bar, and the owner there, to their credit, did TPUSA, and the sound was up for TPUSA. There was one TV on with Bad Bunny where you could kind of see that show, but there was no sound on for it. But we had to switch over at the very beginning of Kid Rock’s last song, which I had to watch the next day because the Super Bowl already started. TPUSA, get your act together. You know how long the thing’s supposed to be. Time it correctly. Yeah, a grammatically great point. Sorry, guys. To me, that’s our biggest criticism on our side of the aisle.
SPEAKER 04 :
We need to do better. And if the biggest point Kid Rock was trying to make was that Jesus has impacted his life, then don’t miss that part of it. Correct. Thank you, Neil. Bob, you watched, I guess, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Yeah. I watched the Bad Bunny thing live and then I recorded, of course, TPUSA. I did the opposite.
SPEAKER 02 :
Did you?
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. Yeah. I mean, look, I agree with you. TPUSA timed it wrong. And it’s like, no, no, no. You got to get that right, especially with Kid Rock’s message, which I love that he put the Jesus dying on the cross. And I’m good. I’m glad he did that. But you got to make sure that everybody sees that and not cut out the people that switch back to the game. Yeah. The Bad Bunny thing, look, I mean, I’m not a fan of his. I didn’t like it. I thought it was grossly inappropriate. It’s the Super Bowl. This is supposed to be an all-American game, okay? They call it around the world American football. And, you know, here’s a guy who’s anti-American. He’s got a history of being anti-American. In 2025, his tour, he refused to perform on U.S. soil, he said, because he will not. And he said he won’t sing his songs in English, and if you want to listen to his songs, learn English. When it was announced he was going to play the Super Bowl in October, he said he’ll make an exception and play on U.S. soil for that game. But he also said, you know what, you’ve got four months to learn Spanish. So he’s very much in-your-face critic of the U.S., and I just don’t think it’s appropriate for the NFL to have somebody who’s anti-U.S. to get up there, especially in the middle of everything going on with the ICE controversies, to clearly take a political side. It’s like, once again, here we go. And I’m sitting there thinking, the guy should have went to the bathroom before the game because he was holding himself the whole time. You know what I mean? So there we go, another one. It’s supposed to be a Super Bowl halftime show, and you’re holding your crotch and doing the gyrating as he did sometimes, including some of the dancers. It wasn’t a long time on the dancers, but you saw the girls and guys standing behind them like on the truck, grinding them from behind in sex acts, and even two men doing it to each other as well. No, Super Bowl halftime, I say shame on the NFL for bringing somebody like this in here who is such a hate monger. And can I also say this is the same guy who in an interview with Time magazine said F Donald Trump, president of racism, said you’re hate and tyranny. And then he said, don’t stop the fight. Don’t lower your fists. All right. So this is what he said to Time magazine while he’s got the big banner up there saying, you know, it’s all about love, not hate. I’m like, oh, my goodness. So just completely clueless. I was turned off by it.

A couple other things about the Super Bowl. I don’t want to beat a dead horse, and one side of me says, like, are we making too much of this? So one question I think that I want to ask is for the Christian community in general, across the board, Do we make too big a deal of these things? On the one hand, we absolutely need to be people who bring light into the darkness and despair that the world is feeling. We need to stand for truth and righteousness. When Christian values and American values are under attack, Do we raise our voices? I believe we do. But sometimes I wonder if maybe all of the hullabaloo that we create in these things creates more interest in who is this guy, Bad Bunny, and what are we supposed to know about that? And I just wonder, ultimately, in the end, if it maybe creates a distraction for us as believers. I mean, we’ve got a mandate to go and make disciples that was clear what Jesus said your number one priority is. And just spending time hurling rocks at people like Bad Bunny, as opposed to promoting Jesus, It could be problematic. And Bob, let me start with you on this, the apologist here, if you don’t mind. I just would love to get some of your feedback because some people are saying, look, why do you guys make such a big deal of this stuff? The world, these are lost people. What do we expect from lost people? Let’s talk about Jesus. And I guess Kid Rock did at the end of his final song. But, you know, do we make too much of this kind of thing?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, frankly, no, because I think that it’s not like we’re out there boycotting right now and leading large national campaigns against the NFL and whatever. No, we’re voicing our opinions. We’re saying as Christians and Americans, we have an opinion. And this is our opinion. And our opinion is we don’t think it’s appropriate for you to, number one, show that smut to our children during a time that’s supposed to be family time. And then secondly, we don’t appreciate the smears on America. And so I think it’s perfectly appropriate for us to offer our opinions. And frankly, look, I get a little bit tired of – Anytime something is pushing a left-wing agenda, then that’s defined as being uniting and bringing the country together. But if something pushes a conservative agenda, then that’s considered divisive and controversial. I mean, would the NFL allow – A performer who is known as an outspoken Christian evangelical conservative MAGA hat-wearing Republican, if they were known for that, no, not a chance. And if that did happen, then the left in this country would have an absolute meltdown because that would be considered so controversial. Why? Because it appeals to the conservative half of the country instead of what we had, which appeals to the liberal half of the country. Right. Honestly, I look at it the same way as I do those stupid little sayings at the end of the end zones in the NFL. The NFL said all the teams had to choose between one of five slogans. Either choose love, stop hate, inspire change, it takes all of us, or end racism. And the NFL had to have those sayings. Now, you might say, well, yeah, but aren’t those sayings something everybody should agree with? Choose love, stop hate. Now, everybody knows these are left-wing slogans pushing a left-wing ideology. If we’re going to play that game, what if the NFL told the teams, you have a choice. There are six slogans you can choose from next year, and here’s what the six slogans are. Back the blue, God bless America, choose life, make America great again, America first, or peace through strength. Technically, everybody should agree with those. But if we’re intellectually honest, we know those are right wing slogans. OK, so it’s the NFL being liberal left wing and woke and basically flipping the middle finger to conservative traditional America. And by the way, can I say on one side note, here’s how disconnected the liberal left is. The Washington Post gave their analysis of Bad Bunny’s performance and their exact words were, quote, it was wholesome, traditional family values, end quote. Wholesome traditional family values. In Spanish, he was singing about his own body parts and taking his body parts and grab it like a bongo and telling women where he’d like to hide his body parts and homosexual stuff about if he doesn’t eat your blank out. Talking about rear end, but the A word. I mean, just really over the top, crude, vulgar stuff in Spanish. And this was, quote, wholesome traditional family values. as he grabbed himself and gyrated. So I just, it’s the Twilight Zone, Neil.
SPEAKER 04 :
I don’t know what the- Which raises a question because obviously I don’t speak Spanish. I spent a lot of time online trying to figure out who’s telling the truth. And with the way the internet is these days, you don’t know exactly what you’re looking at. So I was looking for every credible source I could find about what he actually sang in Spanish. Did he leave certain words out? I read one site that said, you know, we couldn’t really determine if he was swearing or not, because if he was, I don’t think the FCC can allow that, you know, that broadcast radio and television. We operate on the terrestrial radio.
SPEAKER 03 :
He didn’t use the F word. He didn’t use the F word in Spanish. What he did was he changed the name of one of his songs when he’s like, I want to F her in the car. He said, I want to bounce her in the car. So, I mean, he did edit some of that stuff, but he referred to his own male body part as the, well, the nickname for Richard, we’ll say. All right. To me, if that’s FCC acceptable or not, I mean, there’s a fair debate to have, I guess. But at a minimum, that’s not, quote, wholesome traditional family values.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, and anybody who says they believe in wholesome traditional Christian family values should have been looking at that aspect of what was going on. I think probably some of that didn’t happen because all of it was in Spanish, and there’s more to say about that in a minute. But John, your thoughts on this? I mean, sometimes Christians, when you say the word Christian, non-believers say that their first reaction, like if you say, Somebody says hamburger, right? I mean, like the word association game. You say Christian, people say judgmental. Is caring about this kind of stuff judgmental in your opinion? And what are your thoughts about what we’ve discussed?
SPEAKER 02 :
I think, you know, given the fact, here’s my take on it. Given the fact that this is the most watched sporting event of the year period, you know, over 100 million viewers. I think this one came in like 120 or something. So, you know, it’s just a tremendous amount of people that are watching. And to Bob’s point, Of all shapes, sizes, ages, I mean, you know, young kids, et cetera. I mean, and I get it. The halftime show is kind of one of those things where at least for us as a family in the past when the kids were little, you might turn the channel or you might leave the room or go do something else because no offense, they’ve never been. quote unquote, wholesome for quite some time. Doesn’t make an excuse that it’s this way. And my concern on this one isn’t so much him, but the fact that he was able to get by with things in Spanish that we couldn’t get by with on our programs on a daily basis. To me, that’s not fair. And I think that right now the FCC is looking at that as they should. And this isn’t to be judgmental. It’s simply the law needs to be applied equally across the board, whether you’re speaking in Spanish or or german or chinese or america or in english the reality is you’re not allowed to say certain things and even even insinuate certain things i mean i get it there’s jokes and late night tv and so on but this isn’t late night tv the fcc rules are different during this time of the day than it is for late night tv so any of you out there saying well yeah but you know jimmy fallon can say blah blah blah blah blah that’s different the rules change as you get later into the evening That’s not the way it is with the NFL and the Super Bowl. And yeah, Neil, I think we need to hold things accountable across the board, Christian or not.
SPEAKER 04 :
I agree. But let’s be realistic. And I’m not saying they shouldn’t be fine. But do you really think NBC as a network, a broadcast network, because by the way, folks, cable and live stream stuff is very different. But broadcast television and broadcast radio, there’s there’s harsh restrictions about what you can and cannot say. I don’t think that NBC or any of its affiliates will be fined by the FCC. I think they should be. But John, do you really think it will happen?
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, actually, in this case, I think they will. I think given the track record of the FCC, who’s in charge right now, I think if they go through every word that was spoke and look at that in the way that they should. And it’s going to get dicey because, as Bob said a moment ago, some things are just referenced, not actually said. Although I think from my understanding and I’ve not read the entire transcript in English and I’m not a. interpreter, so I have no idea if the transcript that I’ve read is even correct. I think they’ll look at all of that. Here’s my feeling. If they find things that we couldn’t say on our programs, yes, in fact, they’ll be fined. If they’re right on the edge and they didn’t say anything, then no, they won’t be. That’s how I think they’ll look at it.
SPEAKER 03 :
And by the way, Neil, if I could say, too, that I know what you’re saying about people say the word Christian, Rorschach test, first word comes to mind, judgmental. But in all fairness, there are times when we should speak up and let our voices be heard, especially if it’s affecting our neighbor and our neighbor’s children. So should we, regarding drag queens going into kindergarten and gender-confusing children, should we speak up? Yes, we should because our voice should be heard because children are being harmed. Well, I would argue there’s a lot of children that are being indoctrinated with not only anti-American sentiment but sexual sentiment as well. in this halftime show. And it’s like, yeah, the FCC either has rules or they don’t. And if they have rules, apply the rules the same to liberals in Spanish that you apply to anybody else during primetime viewing. Correct.
SPEAKER 04 :
And if we’re the salt and light of the earth, I mean, bottom line is light is an affront to darkness. It wins every time, but it confronts darkness. And then secondarily, you know, salt, arrests decay. It isn’t just a preservative, but it arrests decay, and it’s used to purify. So, I mean, if Jesus said we’re the salt and light of the earth, I think we have a job to do to help point things out that could be troublesome. Two quick things. We’re not going to have a ton of time on this, but The nation’s media tried to make a deal that this was a huge success, that it was electric inside the stadium. And I’ve just seen footage of people on their cell phones showing, like, here’s what’s going on during the Super Bowl halftime show. Bob, is it any surprise that we got lied to by the nation’s media again about the impact the Super Bowl halftime show was having on people in the stadium?
SPEAKER 03 :
I feel like the prefect Renault in Casablanca. Shocked. Shocked, I tell you, that gambling is going on here. Here’s your winning, sir. Thank you. Shocked that the media would lie to us. No, of course not. They do stuff like this all the time. I know that there are a lot of Bad Bunny fans, OK, that exist. And there were many of them that were there at the Super Bowl. And so a lot of the cheering that he was getting was genuine cheering and such. But I will say this. I will say this. Before the Super Bowl, on the day before the Super Bowl, the number one song in iTunes was a Bad Bunny song. The day after the Super Bowl, he got bumped off. He got bumped down to number three. The new number one song on iTunes the day after the Super Bowl was that song that Kid Rock sang, his version of it at the end that included Jesus on the cross put in there. That knocked Bad Bunny off of number one. And number two ended up being the original country version of that song, not Kid Rock’s version. So Kid Rock’s version and then the original was one and two. And then Bad Bunny’s number one song was bumped down to number three. That was the day after the Super Bowl with a much smaller audience watching the TPUSA show. So, you know.
SPEAKER 04 :
John it. Yeah, appreciate that. And John, real quick, it looked like inside the stadium, people just didn’t get it. They didn’t know. First of all, it was in Spanish. It was like, yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
In fact, in fact, there were some there’s there’s video out where some were actually on their phone watching TP USA. Well, that was actually on inside of the stadium, which I thought was hilarious. Well, you know there had to be some of them in there.
SPEAKER 03 :
But look, I like what Trump said in his post. He’s like, nobody knew what they were saying. Quote, nobody understands a word this guy was saying. And the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S. and around the world. So I agree with Trump’s sentiment there.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time talking about Super Bowl commercials, but in our second half, for sure, I want to ask about the He Gets Us campaign, which we saw sort of resurface again recently. John Rush, host of Rush to Reason, KLZ in Denver, is one of our participants each week on the roundtable. And of course, Bob Duco, host of the Bob Duco Show podcast. on WMUZ in Detroit, joins us each week. We spent time during the first part of our podcast today talking about all things Super Bowl, including how boring the game was, but mostly about the impact or lack of impact of the Bad Bunny halftime show. Concerns about the content of what Bad Bunny was singing about, the alternative program with Kid Rock. We all agreed that it went on too long because the most important song ultimately was being played while the game was back on again, and I think lost some viewers there. But, you know, I’m sure conversations will go on and on about all of that in the future. And I hope the NFL learned some lessons from what happened this year because there were a significant number of people that tuned over to the alternative halftime show with Kid Rock and others brought to you by Turning Point USA. Super Bowl commercials always are rated. People pay attention to those. Some just enjoy the entertainment value and so forth, and some of them are good and some of them are really bad. But the He Gets Us campaign, that’s back in the news again. We talked about this a couple of years ago in conversation here on the roundtable, talked about the people behind it and the content of what a He Gets Us commercial looks like. John, in your layman’s terms, best way you can describe it, can you help our listeners who aren’t familiar with that understand what that is and why we might be concerned about the content of those commercials? And I know Bob will have plenty to say as well.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, and I will give them, as always, I give credit where credit’s due. The commercial itself was very interesting. In fact, you would have thought that it was a commercial for Las Vegas, for example. In fact, when I was watching, I’m like, wow, okay, Las Vegas tourism spending a boatload of money here on ads, but it wasn’t. It was the, he gets us, end of things. And that’s an organization that has done this in the past, as you just stated a moment ago, Neil. And again, there’s lots of criticism of that particular organization. Some might argue that, well, they’re still getting people to think about something that they wouldn’t think about otherwise. I mean, the ad itself was not offensive by any stretch of the imagination. Does it get people to go to the website? Probably does. I think the key there is, what do they actually find at the website? And is it really… an organization that’s trying to lead people to Christ, or is this really an organization where it’s all about me and how good do I feel? And I know Bob’s got feelings on that even more so than I. And frankly, guys, I’ll say straight up, I don’t know a lot about the organization. I’ve never really followed them. I’ve never delved into it. The little bit that we’ve talked about it here on the podcast is really about all I know about them.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Bob, I’ll ask for your input, but let me say what was in my mind as John was talking. For some reason, I was thinking about you know, people often complain, well, look, that message wasn’t biblically accurate, which is a huge issue, of course. It can be a huge issue. But what I’m thinking about is, you know, Romans 1, for instance, talks about God revealing himself to us through nature. And if I’m not going too far off the beaten path, you know, everything God created was affected by the fall. And so, you know, there’s going to be a new heaven, a new earth. We can have our lives redeemed and transformed by the power of Christ. And ultimately we’re going to have resurrected bodies that are incorruptible, et cetera, et cetera. So what I’m getting at is, you know, creation speaks of God, but it does so imperfectly. That’s the case I’m trying to make. And so if Johnny Cash or Elvis or somebody that isn’t necessarily a born-again Christian, by the way, I’m not judging them, maybe they were, but some artist sings about Jesus, doesn’t that point people to Jesus? So why would we care if he gets us isn’t theologically accurate, but it’s raising the proposition that people should look into Jesus? Would love to hear what you have to say about that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, you know what? Look, I’m all for trying to draw people to Jesus and get them thinking about Jesus. But once I draw them into the discussion, I then need to be teaching them who the authentic Jesus is and not a counterfeit Jesus, okay? And that’s what my problem – you know, look, I speak in a lot of churches here in the – Detroit area. And just this past weekend, I was speaking at a church and the topic, I usually do apologetics topics, a whole bunch of different topics, but they wanted me to speak on a topic that I define as counterfeit Christianity and the reinventing of Jesus. And so I was talking about what this counterfeit Christianity is. And the thing about counterfeit is It’s like, you know, monopoly money doesn’t bother the government because it’s so far removed from the real thing, nobody’s going to get fooled by it. But if you look at a real counterfeit $20 bill, I know it’s an oxymoron, real counterfeit, but if you look at a real professionally made one, it’s so close to the real thing, it can fool the untrained eye. And that’s the reason it’s so insidious, so dangerous. Well, That’s the thing about this counterfeit Christianity. They take things that look and feel really good and positive, and they use that to lure you into, number one, politically left-wing ideology, but two, theological liberalism and progressivism. One of the things I was saying to this audience, I’ve said this many times, is that one of the key components of counterfeit Christianity, the foundation of it, is it’s me-focused. The new idol of today is idolatry of self. Everything is about me, my life, my happiness, God’s purpose. is to serve me and to make me happy. And God wants me to be happy after all. And so everything is me, me, me, me, me. And all of the other counterfeits out there is loosely connected in one way or another to this is what makes me feel good, makes me feel affirmed. And this is a counterfeit. Christianity, because it’s not about us. It’s about him. We were created to glorify him, not to give him somebody to make feel happy all the time and affirm our lives and our feelings. And so we’ve got this backwards. And I go to the He Gets Us. I’m like, okay, well, He Gets Us. Hey, people are thinking, Jesus, that’s good. If they go to the Bible, that’s great. But if they go to the He Gets Us website, here’s what they see. On the homepage, big letters, I want to be me. Not, I want to conform to the likeness of Christ. Now, I want to give my life to him. No, I want to be me. Then it says, am I even allowed to be the real me? Which is a wink, wink, nod to transgenders, LGBT. You know, you just need to be your authentic you. It’s all about me, Jesus getting me, accepting me for who I want to be and not transforming. And then they have quotes on their homepage from gurus of wisdom, Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, Oscar Wilde, the non-believing homosexual poet and author who give the phrase, quote, be yourself. Well, Neil, you know, all three of us know this, okay? We are not called to be ourselves. I don’t want to be the best me that I can be, okay? I want to crucify the flesh, die to the flesh, and less of me, more of him. That’s the gospel itself. So I don’t mind luring somebody in with, hey, think what Jesus can do for you. He loves you. That’s great. That’s milk. That’s cotton candy. Lure them in. But once you get them in… You have to teach them the transforming truth of Jesus Christ dying on the cross. Kid Rock, in 10 seconds, gave more substance about what the gospel is about than the entire website of hegetsus.com. Yeah, it’s huge. Appreciate you saying that.

And, you know, the reality is that the Bible is clear that God loves us in our sin. And he died for us while we were sinners and literally enemies of God. It talks about in Romans 5.10. But he did so so that we could be transformed by the power of his shed blood. And the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to each one of us. Ultimately, that we would one day look like Jesus and no longer like our sinful selves. You’re 100% right on that, Bob.

Are we glorifying God or are we glorifying ourselves? He Gets Us is all about glorifying ourselves and having God rubber stamp me for who I want me to be. Yeah.

You know, I wanted to touch base on this other major story that captured headlines, of course. It has to do with the internet meme that somehow got attached to a Truth Social post, and it’s not entirely clear how that happened, but President Trump says it was some member of his staff that attached this thing to the post, but ultimately it had some type of a a depiction of Donald Trump as the Lion King or King of the Jungle, and you were hearing a song from the Lion King, and it portrayed Democrats and political opponents as animals. One of the most troublesome, according to those who saw this, say that they were concerned because the Obamas were portrayed Their faces were depicted on the bodies of apes. Now, apparently, I was told, and from what I can see in research, it looks like the same guy that came out with the fighter jet with Donald Trump during the No Kings protest, wearing a crown, flying over top of a crowd, dropping poop on them. It was the same guy that created this thing. And I’m like, how is there any association with this person? How is his meme or his creation of this meme ending up on a true social post from the president of the United States? And when I saw this, I was like, I don’t even want to talk about this. Why do we have to discuss these kind of things? But certainly we need to react somehow. And John, I’m sure this came up on your program. Let me start with you this time. What do we know about this? And, you know, I don’t know if you talked about it, but what was your reaction to it?
SPEAKER 02 :
No, I didn’t talk about it much because I honestly had so many other things that came up in front of it that we didn’t get into much of that. My first reaction was, number one, who’s the staffer? Probably shouldn’t be on staff any longer. Not a smart move. Really not the best look for, you know, our side. And I did have a couple of text messages that came in on it. And my response back was, you know, I’m sure that the White House is going to deal with that. No, Donald Trump didn’t post that himself. Uh, in fact, anymore, I don’t know how much of a posting he actually does. His team, by the way, for all of you that don’t know, this is made up of a lot of young, um, sort of, uh, what do you want to say? You know, just young people that do most of the social media stuff and so on. And quite often they’re very, very good at what they do. This was a huge misstep by one of them. I don’t know exactly who White House hasn’t said, but I hope that they have dealt with that internally because yeah, just not a good look on our side at all.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Bob, Donald Trump said he didn’t plan to apologize, although he agreed that the post was racist. I don’t know. I don’t know who these people are that are working in the social media department for the Trump administration. But come on. Why? Why give the other side ammunition? This doesn’t need to happen. I don’t know what your thoughts are.
SPEAKER 03 :
I do have a theory about this. My theory could be wrong. But first of all, the clip with the Obama monkey thing. OK. There was no reason to splice this in at the end of this meme. It was basically a meme about voter fraud. And it’s like, OK, fine. So to splice in a couple of seconds of this little thing, it really served no purpose other than to, I think, try to make Donald Trump laugh. So really what I think it is, the person creating this is probably presenting themselves as a pro-Trump guy. I suspect that ultimately we’re going to find out this is an anti-Trump guy and is trolling Trump and trying to get Trump staffers to post something that could be attached to Trump in some way. Hey, let’s make it look like I’m a pro-Trump guy because he’s a fighter jet and top gun and here’s Trump and that’s right. But he’s dropping poop on cities. And now with this thing here, splicing this at the end, I think they were banking on some staffer in the White House. It doesn’t watch the entire video, does what most people do. You get 20, 30 seconds into a video. Yeah, hey, this looks good. This looks good. Let’s go ahead and run it. Doesn’t watch it all the way into the make sure that there’s no… That there’s no, you know, mines in a minefield at the end of that. OK. And sure enough, turns out that there turns out that there is an Easter egg at the end for racists. So I think this is somebody honestly trolling and trying to make Donald Trump look bad. The Trump did not post this. And then, you know what? The next day, Trump never posted. never takes anything down from Truth Social. I mean, he never does backing down in that way. Trump had it taken off of Truth Social the next day. So it’s like, come on. I think this is a nothing burger. Some staffer was careless and didn’t watch the entire 60 seconds, got 30 seconds into it and thought, okay, this looks good. And I think that Troller knew that, and that’s the reason that Troller waited and saved this to put it in 98% through the meme spot. That’s my best guess.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Which kind of leads us to the next thing I wanted to talk about today. And that’s Donald Trump’s poll numbers right now. And the reason I’m bringing this up is because when this kind of thing happens, I don’t think it buys him any votes unless it’s someone in a mental institution somewhere. I don’t think it buys him any, but I certainly think it costs him some. And we’ve said all along, independent voters, those who are not dyed-in-the-wool left-wing Democrat voters or hardcore Republican-committed or MAGA kind of people, It’s where’s the middle going to go? And I think you lose middle votes on this. I don’t know how these kind of things are directly affecting his poll numbers. And I don’t know that we can ever believe the nation’s media. But some of the reports recently say it’s pretty dismal. So let me start with you, Bob, and we’ll throw it over to John. But I’m concerned about the midterm elections. I don’t think there’s any slam dunk to be had here. I think that it’s going to be really iffy. And I think these kind of things really cost the president greatly. But your thoughts on this?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, first we’ve got to put the polls into perspective, okay, of all of the polls right now. And by the way, let me just say, I agree with you. I’m concerned about this fall also. But typically midterms usually go in favor of the party that’s not in the White House anyway. So we’ve got an uphill battle anyway. But we’ve got to put this into perspective, okay, Trump’s falling poll numbers. Right now I’m looking as we speak at the RealClearPolitics average of all of the polls. And Trump’s average right now of all the polls is 42.1 percent.
SPEAKER 1 :

OK. At this very point in Barack Obama’s second term, his average was running for about 40, 43 and a half. OK, 43 and a half at this exact same time. So Barack Obama is only a little over a point above on average where Trump is now. And that’s with Obama getting constant, slobberingly positive media coverage from the late night comedians and news media and such. And Trump getting overwhelmingly negative, negative, negative, negative. And with that happening, Trump is still within the margin of error of where Obama was at the same point. So I think we’ve got to put the, oh, his poll numbers are so horrible, into proper context. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a serious uphill battle for this fall. There is. And if Trump wasn’t getting 95 percent negative coverage from a dishonest, corrupt media, I believe his poll numbers would be in the 60s. But it is what it is. And so to John’s point that he says all the time, Republicans have to be really, really smart about messaging to hold the House and Senate this fall. And I’m nervous about that.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah. And really, Bob, really quick along those lines, and I know this isn’t one of our topics, but maybe briefly talk about what’s going on in El Paso. They’ve lifted the FAA flight restrictions. There were some cartel drones coming over. We took care of all of those. I mean, basically, Donald Trump is making sure that the that the country stays safe. That’s a big win today, by the way. For all of you listening, that’s a huge win. And to your point, Bob, we should be messaging that loud and clear. That’s a tremendous win. I mean, we basically are defeating the cartels, which I don’t know why they’re messing with us in the first place, but drones are used to run drugs, do all sorts of other things. I guess there was a barrage of them coming over, and we took care of it. That’s what Donald Trump’s doing right now.
SPEAKER 04 :
I agree. Well, yeah, on the heels of what you’re saying, John, it seems to me that Republicans, conservatives usually are in reaction mode as opposed to being proactive and that we spend a ton of time reacting to what the other side saying to what the other side’s doing, as opposed to pushing the message that really needs to be in front of the people to the best of our ability, because we’re never going to have the mainstream media support on that. And it’s an uphill battle along those lines. But You know, I don’t know. I don’t think sitting back and waiting to react to other people. Hey, look how bad they are. Look what they just said. Look what they just did. There’s an aspect of that for sure. But, you know, like, for instance, on affordability or health care, where we’re going with all of that. What’s the message? Now, you know, defending our borders, I think, is the primary message. And there’s been an incredible job done. by the Trump administration to make good on the promise that we’re going to shut down that border and we’re going to get the dangerous illegals out of our country. So we get that. But as far as any other message, I don’t think that we’re being proactive on anything else we could be saying headed into the midterms, John.
SPEAKER 02 :
No, and we need to do a better job of that. And as I’ve said all along, I’ve even talked about this on my program, the economy, of course, is a lot, you know, affordability, the economy end of things. And again, the Democrats are doing everything, including the media, doing everything possible to stifle the economy. And you would say, well, why would anybody want to do that? Because it helps them in the midterms. When you look at what the Fed’s doing and other high-powered Democrats, and yes, I know, everybody will tell me that the Fed is, you know, supposed to be independent, this, that, and the other. And they’re not, though. I mean, the reality is Jerome Powell is is upset with Donald Trump. He doesn’t like the direction Trump wants to go. He’s dead set on making sure Trump doesn’t get his way. And in turn, it’s affecting the housing market in a great way. If you somehow or another, Neil, can get that loosened up, housing market loosened up, yeah, I think we have a pretty good chance during the midterms. In my opinion, it’s all going to hinge on that. Yeah. Bob, any refrain?
SPEAKER 03 :
No. Look, I agree with what John is saying. I think the housing market – I’ve been saying this really since several months ago that where the housing market is in the summer of 2026 is going to play huge into how Republicans do in the midterms. I think Jerome Powell knows that. I think that’s why he’s been so stingy. Keep an interest rates high as he has. And so, yeah, I think the Trump I think the economy has to be moving well. And here’s what’s unfortunate. This gets to the messaging part of it again. OK. And I’m beating the same John message here, but he’s absolutely right. All right. The economy can be doing very well. Let’s say the housing market is booming in the summer. The media is going to report that it’s horrible. The media is going to take every single negative number and metric, and that’s what they’re going to run with. And all the positive numbers and metrics they’re going to ignore and sweep under the rug. The Republicans have to all be on the same page to say, let me remind everybody. We’ve got this economically and this and this and this and this. And these are the facts right now. And remind people that you can’t expect the prices of things to go back to what they were before Obama. All you can hope is that they don’t go up anymore. And that’s what Trump is keeping from happening. You don’t go backwards in overall pricing for stuff. Some individual things you do, but for the most part, the damage that Biden did is permanent damage. Now what Trump is doing is he’s slowing the incline of that. And that’s a good thing. So, you know, it goes up and sideways, up and sideways, up and sideways. That’s the way that it works. Inflation goes up like a staircase. OK, it doesn’t go like a roller coaster. It goes like a staircase. Individual items are roller coasters, but across the board, it’s a staircase. And right now, Trump is keeping it on the flat part of the staircase. That’s what we need to acknowledge and educate people on.

I just hope that Republicans and conservatives begin to really push those things in a significant way so that it makes an impact on the midterm elections.
