It’s time for our broadcast from the International Gospel Hour. I’m Jay Webb, and welcome to our study today as we embrace God’s Word to help us meet the challenges of today. Let’s open our Bibles and open our heart for this time of Bible study with our speaker Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour, a broadcast of the Churches of Christ.

Here’s Jeff. Well, thank you to our Jay Webb, and greetings and hello everyone. Great having you with us for our studies today. Imagine if folks walked in the example of Jesus Christ, caring for others as He did, to serve as He served. To use the line from the words of the late Louis Armstrong, what a wonderful world. We begin our study with Philippians 4 verse 19. Read moments ago and written under the church at Philippi, with Paul praising this church for helping his needs, he tells them how God would supply their needs. The word supply is a beautiful word, and when it’s defined, it means will make full or fill full, meaning that God will fill or fully supply their need. Now imagine, God Almighty says, to meet and supply a need or any need that we have. You know it’s going to be good. The word all, supply all your need. The word all makes this promise, well, all inclusive. The God of Paul and our Father God will fully supply their every need. To the church at Philippi, God will provide. And then we note, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. How God supplies us through the Christ. According to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Oh, there’s so much here to consider. And through Jesus Christ, indeed, how God supplies us through the Christ. Let’s see another text from Matthew 9, 35 and 36. Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. When I read this text, I can’t help but to think of Acts chapter 10 and verse 38, I believe it is, where the Bible says how Jesus went about doing good. I’d like for you and I to think about how God supplies us through Christ. And time will allow us to look at a couple of areas through Christ which our God supplies. And we hope this will be profitable to you. by God shall supply. Through Christ, God supplies healing for our hurting. Let’s go back to Matthew 9, 35, where Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogue, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Teaching, preaching, and healing. Today, when we take the Word of God, we see the teaching, the preaching therein, the promise, the hope of the kingdom, and the hope of the gospel of the kingdom, and how God is able to heal us with our sicknesses and our hurts. When we look at big cities and small villages, we’re reminded how the gospel is for all. For Jesus, in Mark’s account of the Great Commission, said in Mark 16, 15, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. All individuals can hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. We see how he was teaching within the synagogues, reaching those of the religious world, but also teaching without or those that he came across in the cities and the villages. It’s a great reminder of evangelism, is it not? To where the gospel is not confined to the church building, but rather for people to know of the gospel message. I’ve often said one great impact of a local congregation of the church is when every member is involved in reaching others with the gospel. We learn from Jesus here in this account of Matthew 9 that how he helped the hurting people. He helped those spiritually, physically, and emotionally. How He created faith and hope in so many by what He did. Near the end of the Gospel of John, we are reminded in John 20, 30, and 31, and many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life through His name. Friends, how applicable is that text to us today? You see, there are many things that Jesus did that are not written. But let’s focus about those things that are written. Later in the Gospel of John, chapter 21, if everything Jesus did was recorded, all the books in the world could not contain them. But when you and I look in the Bible and see that what Jesus did, His healing, His teaching, and all, is in order that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. And that believing, you might have life through His name. That believing in Him moves us toward obedience in Him. Because then we believe in His teaching of repentance. We believe in His teaching of confession. We believe in His teaching of baptism. We believe in His teaching of the one church. We believe in the teaching and the instruction from the Scriptures. that the things that are written are the commandments of the Lord, 1 Corinthians 14, 37. You know, friends, when we look and see how Jesus did treat others, and we see that example of one worthy for us to follow, then, friends, let’s also look at Jesus and His service, and let’s remember that wonderful passage that we commonly call the Golden Rule. From Matthew 7, 12, Whatsoever you would that others do unto you, do you also unto them? For this is the law and the prophets. Whatever you wish people would do for you, we do unto them. We make the first move. We do the right thing. How would we want to be treated? How do we treat others? When we look at the end of Matthew, the 25th chapter of the judgment scene, and the responsibility that we indeed have in serving others, Through Christ, God supplies healing for hurt, and when we note from such passages as 2 Corinthians 1, 3, and 4, the comfort that we receive, we are in turn able to comfort others. Let’s look at a second point from our study today. We go back to verse 36 where Jesus was moved with compassion and Because the multitudes fainted, they were scattered abroad. They did in faint, they were weary, they were destitute, they were folks with no hope nor direction. And friends, even those who are Christians will sometimes faint. When duty is to be done, temptations are to be resisted and afflictions to be borne, failing to nourish one with the word of truth. These multitudes, once again, they were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd, a sad condition of those who are destitute of faithful guides to go before them with the things of God. We note from Mark 6 and verse 34, And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were his sheep not having a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. He didn’t see them as a lost cause, but people in search of hope that eluded them. And when you think about the religious leaders of that day, the high priests, the rabbis, the Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes, and lawyers, all had failed them before. But Jesus began to teach them. And then in Acts 1 and verse 1, Jesus began both to do and teach. The instruction went unto those apostles who preached it, and the direction should come unto us to be about the work of the Lord. that we too as scattered abroad individuals that are Christians should spread that word to all. Acts 8 and verse 4. Friends, we hope this study today, how God supplies us through Christ, will help you and I with our hurts and our hope, and help others with their hurts and their hope.
