Good morning. Welcome to Victorious Faith. I’m Cherri Campbell. This morning, I’m going to begin sharing with you another message that I preached in one of our Victorious Faith services called The Anointing. We are going to study what it is, what it can do, and how you can receive it. This will bless your life. Now join me in our live service for part one of this message, the anointing. This evening, the Lord put in my heart to talk about the anointing, the anointing. And so let’s start with talking about what is the anointing. And I like to look at Isaiah 1027 in the King James version to give us a definition for the anointing. King James version, Isaiah 1027 says, and it shall come to pass in that day that his burden Everybody say burden shall be taken away. Say taken away from off thy shoulder and his yoke from off thy neck. And the yoke shall be destroyed. Say the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Hallelujah. So the yoke is destroyed because of the what? The anointing. So that has given us actually a definition for the anointing. The anointing is yoke destroying, burden removing power of God. The yoke destroying, burden removing power of Of God. The yoke destroying. Burden removing. Power of God. In other words. Every time. The anointing. Manifests. Yokes are destroyed. And burdens are removed. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. And. It also. Is another definition. The power of God. Coming on flesh. And. doing what flesh or on a person, you could say, I just use the word flesh, coming on people, doing what people can’t do. So what you can’t do, the anointing can do for you. Hallelujah. So it helps you to sing better than you can sing. And as Elijah ran faster than he could run. So it is the power of God on flesh doing what flesh cannot do. The power of God on a person, you could say. Doing what that person cannot do with natural ability because it is God’s supernatural power. Coming on people to do what that person cannot do, to go beyond their natural ability. And that’s the anointing. Now, to look at the verb anoint, to anoint, it’s a verb. To anoint actually means to rub into, to smear over and rub on. To rub into, to smear over, and to rub on. A Greek word that is a root word, or actually the verb to anoint, a Greek word, the root word, is krio, C-H-R-I-O. C-H-R-I-O, krio. And I want you to notice, and we’re going to point it out in a moment, we’ll point it out again, but do you notice in the word krio, C-H-R-I-O, the closeness to the word Christ? C-H-R-I-S-T. So the name Christ comes from the root word Creo. C-H-R-I-S-T. Christ comes from the root word Creo. C-H-R-I-O. Now the word Creo is the root word and it means, get this, to transfer divine power and authority. To transfer divine power and Divine, obviously, meaning God’s power. Divine, God’s. To transfer divine power and authority. Another way to say it, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The empowerment of the Holy Spirit. So to transfer divine power and authority and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Now let’s look at Luke 4. 18 and 19. And I’m reading, as usual, out of the NIV. It’s actually the old 84 NIV. Luke 4. Luke 4. I’m getting there. 18 and 19. All right. Now, this is Jesus in his hometown, Nazareth. Verse 16, if I start in 16, he went to Nazareth. Jesus went to Nazareth where he had been brought up. And on the Sabbath day, he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Verse 17, the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written. Verse 18, the spirit of the Lord is on. On me or upon me because he has anointed me. Now we just said one of the definition is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Another definition is the power of God on flesh. So Jesus was saying that the power of God has come upon me. The empowerment of the Holy Spirit has come upon me. The anointing has come upon me. Now that is very significant. I’m going to finish this. Let me go ahead and finish it and then say something else too, because he has anointed me to do what? To preach good news or the gospel. to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind and to release the oppressed and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. So what does the anointing do for him? The anointing empowers him. The spirit of the Lord was on him, anointing him to preach, to proclaim freedom and recovery of sight. That was also to heal the sick. Now, there is a very, very wrong belief in teaching in many, many evangelical churches that Jesus did what he did, had the ability to do what he did because he was God. And that’s wrong. Jesus did not have the ability to do what he did, meaning walk on water, heal the sick, raise the dead, make the lame walk and the deaf hear. He didn’t do those things because he was the son of God. And actually, I saw a textbook of one denomination in a church, and that was their basic fundamental point was Jesus did all of his miracles because he’s the son of God. Well, then tell me why did in John 14, 12, Jesus said the works that I do, you may do also. He said it. Well, actually, we’re the sons of God, too. Let me just jump over to there. Now, are we all? Let me go to Galatians real quick. I mean, if he did it because he’s the son of God, you know, the bottom line belief was that he did it because he was the son of God. So we can’t do it. Well, even that has a hole in it. And doesn’t hold water because in all the way through the new Testament, but in Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, that we are the sons of God. Let’s see here. Galatians three 26 Galatians three 26. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. You are all sons of God through faith. So if Jesus did those miracles because he was the son of God, and as this denomination was really believing, then he could do all those things, but we can’t do any of it because he was God and he was the son of God. Well, really, that has a hole in it because we are also sons of God. Galatians 3.26. And actually, there’s many of it. 4.6 says, because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his son into our hearts, the spirit who calls out Abba Father. So it goes on. It’s all about in Genesis. Galatians is all about being sons of God. But that was Galatians 3.26. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ. And so I’ve done teaching on we are the sons of God. If you want more teaching of that going through the New Testament scriptures, we are sons of God. So that has a hole in it. But it wasn’t just because he was the son of God that Jesus did the miracles. He told us in Luke four. Why and how he did miracles. He said in Luke 4, 18, the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has what? Anointed me. And you know, that’s why Jesus never, never, never did one miracle until after he was baptized in the Jordan river. He never did a miracle before. until after he was baptized in water in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Now, there is an apocryphal book that talks about Jesus doing miracles when he was a child. It’s lies because even Jesus said in John 2, the wedding at Cana, and he turned water into wine, and then it says this was his first miracle. It says it. This was his first miracle, turning water into wine. So you can’t say he did miracles when he was a boy child. So he did no miracles when he was a boy child. He did no miracles until after he was baptized in water. And what happened when it wasn’t just the water baptism? What does it say when he came up out of the water? In Luke 3 and 21. Luke 3, 21. When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, and Matthew says it more clearly, when John had baptized him, as he came up out of the water, it says, Heaven was opened, in verse 22, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. So it wasn’t just water baptism, but it was also Holy Spirit baptism he got at the same time. He got water and Holy Spirit baptism at the same time. And when the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove, then he went into the wilderness and got tempted for 40 days and 40 nights. Then it says he came back in the power of the Spirit. And he had the power of the Holy Spirit on him and he began doing his ministry of preaching and teaching and performing miracles. And it all started after he was, what happened to him? He was anointed by the Holy Spirit when the Holy Spirit came upon him. And so he said it himself in Luke 14, the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me.
