It’s S-C-R-U-P-U-L-O-U-S. And it is an adjective. And it could be conscientious and exact, painstaking. A synonym is meticulous or having scruples, meaning being principled. And so your challenge is to use the word scruples, scrupulous in a sentence today. And scruples, they’re all connected, is an uneasy feeling arising from conscious or principle, and it could hinder action. And so scruples, scrupulous, that’s your challenge today. And scrupulous is spelled S-C-R-U-P-U-L-O-U-S. And so it should be pretty easy to use that word. In a sentence today, our quote of the day, I went to Vince Lombardi. And Vince Lombardi was born in 1913. He died in 1970. He was an American professional football coach and executive in the National Football League. He’s considered to be one of the greatest coaches and leaders in American sports. He is best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the team to three straight and five total NFL championships in seven years, in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls at the conclusion of the 1966 and 1967 seasons. And he said this, I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle victorious. So that’s your quote of the day from Vince Lombardi. Our bill of the day is Senate Bill 26182, updated clean energy plan, municipally owned utilities. This is prime sponsors are Senator Mark Schneider, Democrat. Senator Cleve Simpson, Republican. Representative Jarvis Caldwell, Republican. Representative Amy Paschkeld, Democrat. and this has cut the Colorado Union taxpayers’ comments on it, says the bill allows a municipally owned utility that cannot meet its previously filed clean energy plans emission reduction goals to submit a revised plan by December 31, 2026 to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2005 levels between December 31, 2029 and December 31, 2032. The cut board was split on this bill with the majority voting no. While this bill gives municipally owned utilities a slightly more realistic timeline, why was this relief proposed only for government-owned utilities and not for all utilities? And why wasn’t the overall unfunded mandate questioned? Finally, the safety clause is totally inappropriate. And this whole thing here in Colorado is, why on earth… Do we think that we can bring in more people since 2005 and cut our greenhouse gas emissions? And what’s wrong with a greenhouse? A greenhouse, yes, it is a bit warmer, but plants do better in the whole circle of life. Plants do better. Animals do better. And so we need to look at the foundational issues. challenges on these things instead of doing a piecemeal band-aid to this. This is unrealistic. Obviously, it’s unrealistic. That’s the conversation that we really need to be having. And so cut is a no on that. And the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, join us. We take the hard stands on this because this has bipartisan support. But it is important to look at these from a principled, issue-based standpoint. instead of a political standpoint. And so join us. And at that point, we will go to work on our ratings report, rating all of the different legislators, representatives and senators, and the governor on how they did regarding tax the main things we look at is how did they stand for the taxpayer? That’s you and I. How did they stand regarding protecting TABOR, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights? How did they stand regarding property rights, individuals’ property rights and parental rights? So speaking of that, the deadline for the commercial fur sale ban that is working its way through the bureaucratic Colorado Parks and Wildlife, that was due this last Sunday. I did get my comments in and I thought I would share that with you. He said, using the power of an unelected, unaccountable government bureaucracy to shut down the livelihoods of hunters and trappers is wrong. And treating hand-tied fishing flies, cowboy hats, and research differently is unfair and unequal. This is pure political ideology. If the interested parties pushing this commercial fur ban were really concerned about mink, pine martin, badger, red fox, gray fox, swift fox, striped skunk, western spotted skunk, beaver, muskrat, long-tailed weasel, short-tailed weasel, coyote, bobcat, possum, ring-tailed cat and raccoon, muskrat, long-tailed weasel, short-tailed weasel. Oh, I did that twice. Sorry, I added that in there twice. These same interested parties would not have advocated to introduce an apex predator, the wolf, into Colorado. A commercial fur ban taking away the opportunity for individuals to make a living is wrong and it is cruel. And so the next thing I need to do is go to the Federal Register and and make comments regarding the gray wolf that has been introduced here in Colorado as well. So that’s on my things to do. So I did get that done, and I know many of you did as well. And we are involved in all of these important things because we work with great people. And I’m talking with Roger Mangan with the Roger Mangan State Farm Insurance Team. And Roger, let’s go through some statistics so people can understand what’s going on out there. Where should we start?
SPEAKER 22 :
Well, I think people are always interested in the big picture, what’s happening throughout the country in terms of auto theft, for example. And we talked a couple years ago about Colorado being right up there among the best or worst, if you will, in terms of auto theft. But we’ve fallen to sixth or seventh place, which is good news. But think about this. Every 37 seconds in the United States, a car is stolen. And the most stolen car is the Hyundai Elantra. 31,000 were stolen in the United States last year, if you can believe that. California is the state with the most stolen cars still, 181,571 cars stolen in California. And next to that, motorcycles, 9,838 motorcycles. So California, for several reasons, may not be the place to live. What’s happened with cars being stolen in the United States, to give you kind of a big picture, in 2020, there were 880,000 cars stolen. In 2024, 850,000. So about the same. But they peaked out in 2023 at 1,020,000. So it’s interesting to me that what we see happening, The trend is the reduction in stolen cars in Colorado. Let me give you an idea here. Let me go by cars first. Ten most stolen cars in the United States would be the Hyundai Elantra, $31,712. And right behind that is the Hyundai Sonata, $26,000. And somewhere, the car that’s still liked and stolen is the Dodge Charger at the bottom of the chart. But in between, we have Hondas, Pias, Ford. The Ford F-150 is still one of the favorite pickups behind the Chevy Silverado. So we have a lot of cars stolen every day. Let me give you an idea of Colorado and where we’re sitting at the moment. Colorado, in terms of the Elantra, we had 998 Elantras stolen. And as I mentioned, California had the most cars stolen. But of those cars stolen, Chevy Silverado, 6,248 Chevrolet Silverado pickups were stolen. In other states, I’m going to just pop them off here, Illinois… 1,615 Jeep Cherokees. Maryland is a big number, 19,000. And each state seems to have a specific car people seem to like. In Maryland, it’s the Elantra. And in Michigan, it’s 1,500 Jeep Cherokees. So we have an epidemic problem going on out there. And by the way, as a matter of A matter of a side, I should say. We had a call the other day from a neighbor of mine who is a widower now, and she said, can you give me a quarter of my car insurance? And being a neighbor, of course, but at the same time, not wanting to get real close to neighbors because if they have a claim and we have issues with it, guess who’s in the shooting gallery? Right, right, right. So basically, we ended up saving her $2,000 a year on her car insurance. Oh, my gosh. It was amazing. We didn’t save her anything on her homeowner’s insurance, which is hard to do in Colorado. But her total package, we saved up just on her car. I should say car, singular car, $2,000 a year. And I bring that up only because people really need to be proactive and making sure that what they’re paying is a fair amount, and please give us a call. My number is 303-795-8855. If we’re saving people that kind of money, I think it’s worth a call to any consumer out there to double-check what they’re currently paying for.

And that’s real after-tax dollars in your pocket. Yeah, that’s amazing. She should take you out to dinner now. Yeah, she brings me birthday cakes, too. Well, that’s real money. Oh, is it snowing already? I am getting significant rain, which I’m so grateful for this. We have needed this, and so God is good. It is great to get this rain and snow, although I know it’s going to make it a little interesting traveling around here over the next day or so, but certainly really grateful for that. So, Kevin, go ahead.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I was just going to try to set the scene a little bit here. I’m watching heavy snowflakes fall outside. I live a little bit north of Longmont, but outside the town of Berthoud. And I’ve got a fire roaring, so this is a perfect time to talk.
SPEAKER 21 :
That sounds pretty nice, Kevin Lundberg. First of all, in a couple of days is the great celebration for Protect Kids Colorado. And so what’s the latest on that?
SPEAKER 06 :
We are planning a very wonderful evening of celebration for with many of the people who helped us collect signatures, and I’m sure a lot of friends who are just interested in getting engaged and involved with what we’ve got ahead of us, which is the general election, which these three initiatives we worked so hard on are going to be a part of the ballot. And by the way, the snow is supposed to stop about mid-afternoon tomorrow, and That will be Wednesday. Well, this event is on Thursday, Thursday evening, so I’m planning on pretty much cleared roads or maybe plowed roads, but good access to a great facility that has opened their doors to us called the Spruce Mountain Ranch, which is a huge event center. And so we’ve got plenty of room for everybody, and we should have… some interesting refreshments of food, and it’s not a dinner. It’s more of a reception-type hors d’oeuvre thing, but I’m assured that it’ll be a good time there, and then a program that will highlight the things that we’ve done and the things that we need to do.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and what are you anticipating? I know that you all are organizing, preparing for the general event, The opposition to these three ballot questions, of course, the ballot questions basically are keeping boys out of girl sports and out of girl spaces, that if someone buys or sells a child for sex, that that person goes to prison for life and no gender mutilation of children. What does the opposition look like? Is there going to be big money coming in on this, do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, yeah, that’s what we’re hearing from, you might say, back-channel sources that literally millions of dollars have been stored up against us. And it’s the typical same old group of pro-abortion and transgender advocates. One Colorado has been very public about it for several months, about organizations like Planned Parenthood. those types of advocates for hard left policies just can’t let go of what the legislature and the governor have been doing to the people of Colorado. And most significantly, the children and the families have been faced with this gender ideology that is just destroying people. I don’t know how else to put it. And it’s just plain common sense that these initiatives would say, no, you don’t put men in women’s sports programs. It’s neither fair, nor is it safe, nor is it proper to put a biological man or boy in a girl’s locker room, which is inevitably what happens. And people say, well, maybe it’s not happening. Department of Justice, I believe, or no, it’s the Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education, determined that there were, what, I forget the number exactly, 50, 60 transgender boys in women’s sports programs in the Jefferson County school system alone. It’s just not right, and it needs to be changed, and we’ve got common sense measures that the people of Colorado can finally exercise outside of this really madness that occurs down in the legislature far too often.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and so it’ll be great to have a celebration. And then we really need to roll our sleeves up and shed truth and clarity regarding these issues. And so we are dedicated to do that. Let’s move over here. You in your Lundberg report, which comes out on Saturdays and people can find that at Kevin Lundberg. That’s L-U-N-D-B-E-R-G dot com. This whole thing with the Southern Poverty Law Center. I remember years and years ago when I was just starting on my journey to become informed on things that this SPLC or Southern Poverty Law Center would pop up and it was talking about hate groups. And this was even before they got even more aggressive in policing. in saying that conservative organizations were hate groups. But I thought, something isn’t right here. Well, after all these years, we found out something wasn’t right there. Right, Kevin Lumberg?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, yeah, I mean, you’re quite right. A good example is

You know, Kevin, you know what? The reception is going in and out. I know you’re sitting by the fire, but make sure that you’re at a spot where you’ve got good connection, okay?
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, well, let’s try that. Tell you what, let me switch around on some earphone stuff.

Okay, that’s much better. How does that sound? That’s much better.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, okay, good, good. Well, anyway, Southern Poverty Law Center has been a real problem for a very long time, and it has been obvious. A good example is the Family Research Council, FRC, which is based in Washington, D.C., and they actually came out of focus on the family, and they’re a political watchdog group from a right-leaning perspective. Well, Southern Poverty Law called them a hate group. And they aren’t. I can tell you, I work with many of the people involved. It’s just a good, solid organization that is based on biblical values, largely, just trying to engage the public with what is right and what is true and what makes good sense in government. Well, they’re designated as a, quote, hate group, largely because they’re pro-life. And this was decades ago. literally spawned an attack on FRC. A guy shows up in their office with a gun, and I’ve seen the bullet holes where he shoots things up and actually shot one of the security guards. Fortunately, he survived that attack. But that’s an example of what can happen just in a very dramatic fashion. when they point their finger at some group and without any legitimate basis call them a, quote, hate group just because they want to preserve unborn babies or because they want to defend families. There are so many other groups that I’m aware of. Liberty Council, that’s a legal organization, a defense organization that works on family issues and, again, just salt of the earth people well they’re called a hate group now they took on a legal group to who decided they’d go after them and sue them a bit and so they’ve been kind of battling back and forth but now here quite recently we discovered that seven southern poverty law center which has it it drew in tens of millions of dollars every year probably a lot of government funds too if you want to look at it carefully but they’ve been feeding The obvious problem is like it came out that they’ve been paying off officials within the KKK and similar groups like that that really can be called a hate group by legal standards. But your Southern Poverty Law is paying the people who are running the organizations. And here’s where they really step over the legal line is they didn’t tell their donors. And they didn’t tell the banks what this money was being used for because they went through shell organizations. So they gave money to one group who then fed the money over to the bad guys. But really, Southern Poverty Law is certainly one of the bad guys. And this looks like real justice is coming home to roost on a group that has been a bane to… good conservative values and fair and honest organizations for decades now.
SPEAKER 21 :
Let’s continue this discussion when we come back. I’m talking with Kevin Lundberg regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center. And they have been out there for quite some time. And it looks like they’ve been doing some very nefarious things. I think it’s important that we understand that because they were very involved in all these narratives that have been out there for so long. Certainly there is no scruples or they are not scrupulous whatsoever. And think about how this has been built. I just checked and the Southern Poverty Law Center is a 501c3. So you could have these people that would make a contribution. They get a tax write-off. And then this money was being used really basically to continue to foment division in our country and to try to keep us divided. And ultimately, a house divided cannot stand. So ultimately, if you connect that dot, it would ultimately bring America down. Is that too strong of a statement, do you think, Kevin Lombard?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I’d say it’s a part of… of an effort on the part of a lot of people on the left who just want to burn it down. And, uh, yeah, because it, it makes no sense that this group that supposedly is set up to, um, be a watchdog over people who have gotten out of, out of control is, is actually, it’s, you know, it’s, it’s like the, uh, the wolf in the house, uh, going after the, uh, what they call the bad guys, which from my perspective, having so many people that I’ve worked with directly being called a part of these, quote, hate groups, I knew that they were just lying to the public in this regard. And they had so much credibility that, I mean, I’ll not name names, but I remember this one organization had this big event that was very much of a conservative type conference. lined up in the Washington, D.C. area. And then SPLC comes out with a declaration that this particular group is on their hate list. And all of their keynote speakers just walked away, who are good people, but didn’t want to be associated with any group that was named by Southern Poverty Law. Not because they disagreed, but they just knew it was sort of the public relations kiss of death to them. And SPLC had developed that much of a reputation among the established media and the big political powers in the country. Well, we’ve got a lot of folks like that that do that sort of thing. But when you find that they are being so… deceitful themselves and so unscrupulous as to actually try to encourage the worst of the worst to continue on. Now, they said they were doing it because they were trying to get inside information. Well, they spent millions doing this. And again, it is so refreshing to see a little bit of truth come out. I’m so proud of what the the Trump administration has been digging through. Now, they’ve got a lot of work to do still in so many areas, but this is one good example of how they’re trying to hold the true bad actors accountable for their actions.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and so this is a really big deal. And so let’s change gears, though. In the legislative session here in Colorado, we’ve got one more week, basically. It closes on the 13th. And there’s some very unscrupulous things that are happening down there. What do you think people should know right now, Kevin Lumberg?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I’ll tell you something I ran across just a few hours ago is House Bill 1430. And its title is called Transportation Funding Adjustments. Now, I wish I could explain this to you in detail, but I can’t because it’s such a complex bill. I think Cut should have a look at this one because it appears to me that they’re folding this. Well, you can learn a lot from a legislative declaration, which is the beginning of this bill, where it says that transportation funding is a problem. because we want to fund everything else they don’t really focus in on on the need for better roads in colorado they just say well well this has been a problem because we can’t get our other programs through and and so they’re coming up with this bill that lowers a lot of fees but color me very skeptical that they want to actually uh give some tax relief from the uh for the citizens I’m pretty sure folded in here is a huge grab at getting some funding moved away from the Tabor limit and to increase funding for the general fund and to move a lot of transportation funding issues into what they call fees, which are really taxes, but it’s their Nifty way to, again, skirt around Tabor on the taxes side. Now, they do recognize, here’s one silver lining to this particular bill, 1430, just to remind people, is that it does require a vote of the people to implement or at least fully implement. But anytime you see a bill of this magnitude, dropped this late in the game, you know they don’t want anybody to look at it. They just want to pass it right through and call it law.
SPEAKER 21 :
And CUT did take a position on this, which we put into our rated bills. And this is our commentary on this. And the sponsors on this are all Democrats. It is, let’s see, it is Representative Andrew Boesenecker and Representative Emily Sirota and Senator Judy Immobile and Senator William Lindstedt. And this is cuts comments on it says this bill reflects a direct response to petitioners who are currently securing signatures for a ballot initiative to be placed on the November 2026 ballot that would fund transportation and fix our third world roads. It is circumventing what voters would likely vote yes on. basically broadsiding what voters want, safe roads. This bill is for a constitutional amendment. Annual budgetary items do not belong in the Constitution. The bill represents contempt for the residents of Colorado and an egregious use of the safety clause. So that’s what our team came up with.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and let me ask you a question because, again, now I checked the bills that are online right before I published the newsletter. And this one was introduced on Friday, but it was not up on the website Friday night, I will attest to. But at least not at the time that I checked it. Does it, you mentioned constitutional, does it actually, because this isn’t a change to the Constitution, this is a staff story piece. Are you simply saying that they’re going in and and trying to manipulate the numbers so that Tabor doesn’t have the real impact that it’s intended to have. is that constitutional component or is there something else?
SPEAKER 21 :
You know, I need to check with the team on this exactly. So I’ll get clarification on that, how we work. This is the team goes through and they look at the bill and then they put their comments in. And then we have somebody that summarizes all of that. And then I take everything from there. And so what I have learned is, Kevin, because you said that this was introduced on Friday, but on Friday night, you didn’t see it there. And what I so what I’ve been doing with cut as I was going through all of the bills is initially on five o’clock on Friday afternoon, I would start to look at the bills. And then what I had done is I started to get up real early on Saturday morning. And what I found is what was published as scheduled for hearing on Friday afternoon, they add a whole bunch in, it almost seems like overnight. And so I think that’s probably how we caught that is because I did this really early on Saturday morning. And this is some of the games that they play, which is very unscrupulous, Kevin Lumberg.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, yeah. And I get it if a committee goes late into the night that you can’t expect the IT team to immediately post the thing. But yeah, I’ve seen a little bit too much of that in the last few weeks, actually. And this is probably an example of that. Anyway, that’s the latest worst. Here’s another thing. Of course, I have a good bill and a bad bill list. I mean, there are all sorts of cuts, you know, focuses in on what are the financials, and you’ve broadened that a bit, and I appreciate that as well. But try to identify what’s out there that we need to be aware of and what are they doing with it. But in my good bill, bad bill list, usually about this time, I’ll do an analysis, and I’m pretty sure I’ll do it for this coming week, of, okay, how have they fared? How many good bills have gotten through the system and at least got to the governor’s desk? And how many bad bills on the opposite end have actually been killed? Because all the other bad bills will go through and become law. I mean, the governor may veto one or two. We’re hoping he vetoes the union bill that blows up the Labor Peace Act in Colorado. But this year, I’m hard pressed to find any good bill that’s made it through. There might be one bill at the very end that it looks like they may have kind of cut a deal, and this has to do with extending the cutoff date for ending coal-fired plants. I mean, the very fact that they’re contemplating ending coal-fired plants is a terrible idea. But this bill, I put on the good bill list only because it put off this extreme dire emergency that we’re going to have. When they actually shut down all coal-fired plants, which the plan is by 2030, well, this gives a little bit of a window of maybe a couple of years for a few of these plants.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, and I think you might be referring to Senate Bill 26182. It had bipartisan support. Cut looked at this, and we’re a no on it. And I shared that in the first segment. But Kevin, on these particular bills, we’ve got to look at the underlying issue here. And that is, we don’t put a Band-Aid on shutting down these coal-fired plants. we have a real honest conversation about what this is doing to our economy to move us over to unreliable, inefficient, it’s not abundant energy sources. And that’s what the real discussion has to be. And I think that we have a real opportunity. And so instead of putting a bandaid on this, we need to have the really difficult conversations, which we do on the show. I was traveling this last weekend and the Lyft driver that I was talking with said, hey, I was in Denver just recently and I couldn’t believe all of the vacant storefronts. And I said, I know. And it is because of public policy. Then the person that gave me a ride home from the airport last night said that her furnace in the place that she’s renting had gone out. And she’s renting from an individual, so it’s not a big industrial apartment complex. And she said, Kim, did you realize that the furnace, I think they were able to repair it via the thermostat or something. But she said, do you realize that if you have to get a new furnace with all the new stuff, it could be $10,000 to $15,000, which Ben Williams with Ben’s Plumbing and Heating and Cooling has talked about. But she said, then also you have to put on this additional thing. It’s a machine, I think it’s a heat pump or whatever, and it’s really noisy. People are very unhappy. She said, how did we get to this point? I said, it was legislation that was passed a few years ago. And we’re starting to see the effects of all of this terrible, onerous legislation. It’s unscrupulous what a lot of this is, is because there’s special interest that’s writing this legislation and pushing it forward. We used to be a gem in America, and we’re becoming a laughingstock because of all the goofy stuff that’s going on here in Colorado. Kevin Lumberg.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes. My wife and I just got back from a road trip where we went to 18 states, met with friends and family members all over the country from here to Connecticut and back. And that was a common theme. Every time we’d meet with somebody and, you know, we’d say, well, we’re in Colorado, and they’d kind of shake their head in disbelief. Some of them had moved away from the state. Some of them had just been listening from afar. But it’s well known that Colorado is really on the ropes. There’s an organization that I’m quite active with called the American Legislative Exchange Council, ALEC. It’s a big gathering or organization of conservative legislators. And they publish a book every year called Rich States, Poor States. where they rate the economic vitality of every state. And Colorado used to be, I think it was number two, Tabor being a big reason for that, but just a healthy, great place to live years ago. Well, one of the authors of the book actually called me when they were rolling it out and said, brace yourself, because Colorado has dropped down like 12 slots because of the policies that are in place. In my newsletter just this past week, I’ve been kind of focusing in the last few weeks on some of these problems so that people can see some of the actual data behind our discussion of how the economy is just falling apart. Here’s one sentence I put in with six different links. that backed up these specific points. But I said, in Colorado, the roads are a mess. More than a dozen unconstitutional laws have been forced on gender ideology on everyone in our state. Public school enrollment is dropping, which maybe is not a bad thing, but it indicates parents aren’t happy. Housing costs are out of control. Our Second Amendment rights are eroding away, and fentanyl deaths are climbing as opposed to dropping in most of the country right now. And this was just a little sliver, kind of a snapshot of, no, it’s not just one metric in one part. It’s this overall, you know, the left in the legislature, I’ll just name it, the Democrat Party has been pushing all of their favorite programs because they have the trifecta of both houses and the governor’s office. And they’ve been putting all this in place. Now they end up with a well over a billion dollar deficit this year. They were digging out of a hole last year. Next year, it’s going to be the same thing because they’ve just put too much big government programs that don’t work in place. And it’s cursing the people of Colorado from every direction. The only good thing I can see is there’s an election coming. And people in Colorado need to not only get out and vote, but they need to talk to their neighbors, their friends, and say, hey, look at how come this happened. By the way, that’s one of the positive things of these initiatives that we’ve put out, which really attack some of the most egregious laws that they’ve put in place, is I want to hold the account of the legislators who made this so accountable. And that can only happen as people, when they go to, you know, some political event, or maybe somebody knocks on your door who’s running for office will ask them straight up, what do you think about those initiatives? And how has your voting record been on all of these things? So, well, there’s a dramatic difference between the two parties. And we need to get back to what is good government, which is essentially less government and government based on clear moral values. Let me mention one other very important element. And that is this Thursday, we’ve got this big event for protect kids, Colorado evening, but there are, um, that that’s the national day of prayer as well. And at noon on the West side of the Capitol, I actually will stop by and be a part of the program on the first part of it. But, but there’s an important gathering of, of, of people who know that it’s time to pray for this country. Um, And in your local communities, I’m sure there are National Day of Prayer events happening as well. I urge everyone to engage with that, to be a part of the solution, not just, you know, wring our hands and complain about the problems. But first and foremost, we need to, like so many leaders of our country have done in the past, to declare our need for God’s guidance and direction And that’s what the National Day of Prayer is all about. It’s got a long history going all the way back to George Washington’s days. And it was President Harry Truman who made it a national annual event. We need to do that. And we need to be a part of the solutions, not just to complain about the problems.

Well, and I think that’s with Protect Kids Colorado. We need to have repentance for what we have been doing to our children in the womb and out of the womb. We’ve got to ask for forgiveness for this. And it could mean a conscientious and exact, painstaking, meticulous, having scruples, which is being principled. And I think it should be easy for you to use the words scrupulous or unscrupulous in a sentence today. I can use the word unscrupulous regarding much of this legislation that is proposed and being passed here at the Colorado State Legislature. And so your challenge is to use the word of the day. Our quote of the day, I found this, I was looking for quotes regarding victorious in battle. And I got this from Vince Lombardi, who was born in 1913. He died in 1970. He was an American professional football coach and executive in the National Football League. And he’s considered one of the greatest coaches and leaders in American sports. He has led the Green Bay Packers to five total national championships in seven years. And he said this, I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle victorious. And that is Vince Lombardi. Our bill of the day, and CUT has taken a position on this, and CUT engaged. We posted five bills yesterday that you can make your voices heard. And I’m seeing a number of those coming through. I made my voice heard on those. And this is Senate Bill 26182, the Updated Clean Energy Plan. by municipally owned utilities. The prime sponsors, it has bipartisan support, Senator Mark Schneider, Democrat Senator Cleve Simpson, Republican Representative Jarvis Caldwell, Republican Representative Amy Paschal, Democrat. And this is CUT’s position on this. And join us at cutcoloradotaxpayer.org. It says this bill allows a municipally owned utility that cannot meet its previously filed clean energy plan submission reduction goals to submit a revised plan by December 31, 2026 to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2005 levels. between December 31, 2029 and December 31, 2032. The cut board was split on this bill with the majority voting no. While this bill gives municipally owned utilities a slightly more realistic timeline, why was this relief proposed only for government-owned utilities and not for all utilities? And why wasn’t the overall unfunded mandate questioned? Finally, the safety clause is totally inappropriate. We’ve got to go to the the foundation on this. And that is, first of all, the narrative that greenhouse gas emissions are bad. Greenhouse, here in Colorado, marijuana growers know that if you put CO2 into the greenhouses, the plants do better. So if, in fact, we have CO2, which is nature’s fertilizer in the air, plants do better. And so, first of all, there’s that narrative at the very bottom that we’ve got to address. Second of all, this is unrealistic to be pushing us to unreliable, inefficient, unaffordable and not abundant power sources such as wind and solar. And because the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine. And so that is, on the basis, a real problem. And then the other thing is, why did they decide 2005 levels? Now, just think about all the people that have moved here and all the illegal immigration that has come here that contributes to these things that they say they’re concerned about. Why are we trying to hit that 2005 level? Because there’s a lot more people here doing a lot more things. That is unrealistic. And so let’s talk about the foundational problems on these things instead of trying to put a Band-Aid on it. It just it’s just a real problem. But that’s why we take the hard stands. And that’s why we have these conversations is because we have got to start to have people understand in their hearts and minds these real issues. And it happens because of our great sponsors. And one of those things, let’s talk about other people’s driving. But that is keeping your eye on the road. And I think I told you years ago when I was a kid, I went to a, it was a safety camp and I, down at a 4-H camp in Kansas. And the question was posed to us, what is the most dangerous mile when you’re driving? And the answer was the mile right in front of you.

Yeah, exactly. My wife and I, when we’re on the road, sometimes she’ll count the number of drivers that go by or that we pass that are on their cell phone. And It is, in my opinion, folks don’t admit to it, but in my opinion, the number one reason for the rear-end accident. And it’s so easy to avoid. And I know there’s listeners out there that text and drive, and I would just encourage them to focus and just put that phone away. Don’t be tempted. You can wait until you get to your destination. It’s just distracted driving. It is the number one cause of accidents, and it’s what I hear all the time. And on the highway, especially with as crowded as the highways have become, staying focused, attentive, watching what’s in front of you, it’s impossible to do what you need to do if you are looking down at a phone or, God forbid, trying to text while you’re driving. Yeah. And I bring that up just because we got some nasty weather coming in and we’re supposed to have snow later today, tonight, into tomorrow. And all the more reason to just be very attentive and focused because cars in front of you are going to come to a stop. You may hit a slick patch. And if you’re attentive and watching, you’re going to be able to avoid the vast majority of the actions. You can’t control the person behind you. But you can control what you’re doing and avoid a lot of things. And I just want the listeners to understand you can do a lot to avoid accidents by just focusing on the task at hand, which is driving with attention to what’s in front of you.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and John, if somebody is involved in an accident and they’re fortunate enough that there’s not any physical injuries involved, The time of having your car in the body shop and the expense and the inconvenience is so significant that if you’re trying to save 10 seconds over here, it could cost you money and time over there. And I think that’s something that people kind of forget is, And then we had Roger Mangan on, and he said with these new cars and these computers, sometimes getting the right components to get your car fixed, it takes a long time. And he said that there was a car that they were waiting on something and had been in the shop for three months. Just think about the expense and the inconvenience of that, John.
SPEAKER 08 :
All avoidable. Yeah, and that’s an excellent point, Kim. I mean, the frustration of… Of waiting for a car, waiting for a part to come in so your car can get fixed. When again, oftentimes completely avoidable by just paying attention. Excellent point.

It’s great to be on with you, Kim. This is quite an adventure. And you have been in the education field for a long time. So tell us a little bit about that. And then also tell us a little bit about what you’re seeing in education and why you are the headmaster of this new school, which is so exciting, Priscilla Rahn.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sure. So I am actually completing 32 years in a few weeks of being a public school educator and a classroom teacher and principal. And, you know, when I started teaching 32 years ago, education looks very different. It was more traditional, what most people grew up experiencing. And it has morphed and changed over the years. And mainly I fault the activities of the teachers union. When you and I met, I was actually involved in the teachers union. I’ve always been a conservative and a Republican. But like I said, the teachers union changed from being a professional education association to being more of an activist organization. And I got to the point where I could no longer support a system that was actually really damaging children and families. And so my pivotal point really started during COVID when pretty much everybody was started waking up to all of the indoctrination, DEI, CRT happening in the schools. But I got more educated through Leadership Program of the Rockies and just really understood what the proper role of government was in education, who the first educators are, which are the parents. And I said, you know, I need to find a different path because I’m seeing our children really be destroyed under this system. And so I said, when I retire, I’m going to do something different. And by providence, I met Scott Anderson, who’s the founder of the school. And it’s just been a wonderful opportunity to shift into a classical education model and in the private sector to really make a change. And so I’m so excited, Kim.
SPEAKER 21 :
Oh, this is really exciting. So this now this is a private school, but the tuition is 100 percent covered. Or what does that look like exactly, Priscilla Ron?
SPEAKER 04 :
Sure. So we are not funded by federal taxes or public taxes. So in a private school, you have to charge tuition. But the founder is so passionate about reaching families and removing barriers to access a great education program. that he is taking on this big burden of funding the first year of our students. But I will say that we are partnering with wonderful grant organizations. Our goal is to keep that cost as close to zero as possible the entire time children are at our school, because thanks to President Trump and the big, beautiful bill, we have the education tax credits. We have wonderful friends in the community who are passionate about this vision and they’re also donating. And so we want to make sure that families know that if they want to pull their kids out of public school and they want to send them to us, that we will work with them to help them make sure that they are with us.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. Where is the school located?
SPEAKER 04 :
Our school is located in Centennial right off of, I-25 and Dry Creek. And a lot of people know where Maggiano’s is because we have monthly meetings there, but we’re right behind Maggiano’s in a beautiful, right under 12,000 square foot building. And we’ve blown out the walls inside and now the framing’s going up. It’s going to be absolutely beautiful, brand new. You know, I’ve had a chance to decide on the paint colors and the finishings. And it’s just going to be a place where not only educators love to go to work, but where children are going to love going to school and have a lot of fun.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. And so you don’t have to live in Centennial to have your children go to that school though, right?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, we will take anybody who’s willing to come to us.
SPEAKER 21 :
OK, and you’re beginning with K through three and then you anticipate that you’ll add one grade each year, which I think that probably makes sense to start with those, you know, with those age groups. But I think that that makes a lot of sense. So telling me that I think that makes sense. Tell us your thinking on that, though.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, because, you know, we’re trying to build a culture and it’s a little challenging if you have a sixth grader who’s been in the public education system or older to come in and you’re changing everything. In the classical model, there’s a lot of language around classical education. It’s rigorous. We’re using the Socratic method when we’re reading. And so we want to set children up for the best success and the parents so that it’s a little bit of an easier transition if they come in K-3. Now, I will say… I’ve had a lot of parents of incoming fourth graders desperate to bring their children. So we actually are looking at stretching it to fourth grade. So if there are any parents of current third graders who are going into fourth grade, I will have a conversation with them because we want, again, we want to make sure that children can handle the model. And I mean, we’ll be learning Latin. We’ll be doing intense mathematics. I mean, yeah, it’s going to be pretty amazing. And so again, To come in in the older grades can be a little bit tough, but we’ll make it work because we are going to be an extension of parents. So if parents are willing to partner with us, we will find a way.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. What are the hours? And I know that sometimes it’s one of the challenges has been after school stuff. What’s your, you know, how are you working on that?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. So the student school day is from eight to three and we designed it that way because You know, if parents can drop off before crazy Denver rush hour and pick up before the I-25 rush hour, that’s most ideal. But we are offering after school till 530 free of charge year one. So if parents are working and they do need that after school care, we have a robust, fun music activities band that we’ll be doing at the school. So we definitely, again, want to make sure we’re removing barriers for parents who are working.

Well, and so the core things that you have, you’re going to be teaching classics, mentorship, liberal arts, and core values. And Priscilla, These are things I am blessed with a great public education, but I’m old enough that it was a classical liberal public education. And as you had mentioned, the teachers union has really been influential in education where Our kids are not learning the basic things. They’re being taught to question whether or not they’re a boy or a girl. And the social-emotional learning and DEI have all crept into education. And so to reclaim education like you’re doing at this Excalibur Classical Academy is a big deal, Priscilla.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes, our mission and vision is restoring America’s heritage. by developing servant leaders who are keepers and defenders of the principles of freedom for which our founding fathers pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. And that’s a mouthful, but really what that means is we’re going to go back to our heritage. Our heritage is based on all men are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights by our creator. And so every morning we’re going to start with a flag ceremony, but we believe in God and country. So we’re going to start with a prayer. Then the pledge, we’ll sing a patriotic song or a hymn, and then we’ll quote from a very inspirational mentor, author, or even a quote from the Bible. And that servant leadership is going to be a critical piece So our young people are going to learn how to love their country. They’re going to learn how to take personal responsibility and accountability. They’re going to have an abundance mentality. They’re going to show up in greatness. All of these wonderful 10 core values, which are on our website, I go through each one of those individually through a video to explain why this is the model for our school and why we think this is the best option for students that are in our area here.

Okay. So starting a school, and I’ve been watching another school in a different state get going. It’s a lot of work. And parents, I think sometimes they might be a little reticent. They’re like, well, maybe I’ll try it next year. And I have a feeling that if you try it next year, it may very well be waiting list next year.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, so here’s what I would say, and I totally understand that. I would say, number one, you’re getting a headmaster with over three decades of experience in education and education leadership. And that’s really tough to find someone who has that experience. Number two, we are part of a larger network. We’re part of the American Classical Lyceum. So we’re not starting our curriculum from scratch. We have quite a bit of support from an already established organization. I am hiring the best of the best content experts to be teachers and mentors in our school. And I am interviewing every single parent and every family to make sure everyone knows. We have this relationship because parents know what they want. And we are talking about whether Excalibur is going to provide them the vision of what they want for their children. And here’s the other exciting thing. We are an inaugural school, and with that comes the ability of all of our inaugural families to help us create and develop this dream school. We have something very special planned for our inaugural students. There’s only one inaugural class, and they get something very special as the courageous risk-takers to be with us. And there really is no risk, because when you come, we’re not charging tuition. Come experience it. our families and children will love it because if they don’t come back year two, then we weren’t successful. So I’m, I’m really invested in making sure there’s success this first year.
SPEAKER 21 :
So you said that school is eight to three. How about the details? What time can parents drop off? You said there’s going to be afterschool options, uh, lunch, you know, what does all that look like?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. So, uh, Parents can drop off as early as 7.45. If we have unique situations where parents need to drop off at 7.30, we’ll have that conversation. But 7.45 a.m. drop off and you can pick up at 3 unless you are working and need to pick up anytime by 5.30 p.m. We do not have a cafeteria, so parents will need to send their children with a lunch every day unless we have food catered in like It’s Chick-fil-A Day or Pizza Day, and we’ll let parents know ahead of time that we’re bringing food in for the students. Our calendar actually starts September 8th, so we’re going back to traditional after Labor Day, and we’re going to end before Memorial Day. We’ll have a fall break, a Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, and a spring break, and not a lot of other breaks between that, and so… That is a very condensed calendar because, again, public school, we have all these breaks, school starting more and more into the summer in August. And so we’re just going to go back to a traditional calendar.
SPEAKER 21 :
Nice, nice. This is coming in on the text line. Text line is 720-605-0647. Gammy, who is watching all of these issues on a regular basis, says, this is an incredible effort to step up for educating our precious cargo, our children. And so big compliments on this to you and the Andersons for stepping forward regarding this. So tell me what kindergarten is going to look like.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, kindergarten, obviously, it’s going to be a little bit more fast-paced because we have to switch their little brains. So they’ll start with, again, the flag ceremony, phonics, grammar. They’ll do, you know, a lot of reading, a lot of being read to, and a lot of reading. And then they’ll also start learning how to write because we’re going to be a very low, almost no technology school. They will have music. And they will have art and they will have physical education, plus a lot of free playtime where they’re going to learn how to engage with their classmates. And they’ll also have history and a little science and Latin. In kindergarten? In kindergarten, yes. They’re going to start learning Latin words. Yes. It’s just going to be an amazing experience for them. And I say, you know, no tears. We want our kindergartners and all of our students to love coming to school and just be very curious about learning.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, curiosity is… helps one live, I think, a full life. And a frequent guest on the show is 97-year-young Colonel Bill Rutledge. She’s a retired United States Air Force. But even at this age, he has this curiosity that he’s had ever since a kid about people and places and history. And that curiosity helps one live, I think, a full life, Priscilla Rahn.
SPEAKER 04 :
Absolutely. And, you know, that question we’ve gotten a lot of times in LPRs is that the government’s role is to compel children to go to school and to learn. But how wonderful would it be for children to choose learning? Because once you choose to learn, you are a lifetime learner because you want to learn. And instilling that love of learning and curiosity and conversation and teaching young people how to think about things in life and making good choices, that’s really the key to creating lifelong learners.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and one other thing you mentioned is that you will have band and music and also that you’re a 32-year educator. But that is right down your alley regarding the arts, yes?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes. So, of course, I was a little bit biased when I said, okay, what are we going to offer our young people? And so the arts and that creative part really does spark and engage the entire brain. So children who learn to play an instrument actually score a whole GPA higher than children who don’t learn how to play an instrument. And even though we’re not going to be doing standardized testing, we’ll be using the classical learning test model, learning to play an instrument and then create and make music and then be in harmony with other musicians is just a really wonderful, full, fun way of living life, and I haven’t met a single adult who said, oh, I think having quit playing a musical instrument was a good idea. I always meet adults who say, you know, my parents made me learn how to play an instrument, and I quit, and I regret it. So we want kids to experience a wonderful music, art, and physical education program.
SPEAKER 21 :

So we will be closer to August because it’s very dusty in there, and they are on track. in August, about the third week of August, because we just started tearing walls down early. But, you know, people can drive by the school if they if they want to reach out to me, I can show them some rendering of what the school is going to look like, because I know parents are very curious that we’re going to have a beautiful playground outside a kindergarten playground and then a playground for first through third and on up. And And so it’s really coming along really beautifully.

Here’s my final thought. We have seen a lot of parent groups pop up, mommy grooms pop up fighting, and we need the parents to fight. So, you know, it can take a long time to change school boards and fight the legislature. Your children will be graduated by the time we flip Colorado. Now’s the time. Pull your kids out. Put them in Excalibur Classical Academy because this is your opportunity. to really change what’s happening while we’re trying to change some of this bad legislation and the bad school board.

Thanks so much, Kim. And I just want to start out by saying I think we’re kindred spirits here in I’m a cattle rancher and a landowner with deep roots in the Flint Hills and the Tallgrass Prairie. But I’m also a lawyer that specializes in oil and gas issues. But the last several years, because of my practice, and I’ve just been blessed with the success there, I’ve spent probably the last seven or eight years taking on pro bono civil rights cases. And so I’ve got a deep commitment to civil liberties and property rights issues. And so I’m just so grateful for you and your guests and co-hosts for taking up this flag of civil liberties and private property rights, which seems to be sort of under assault from both the traditional left and the traditional right. right in this country. So thank you so much.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, it is, and it’s taken me a while, Vance Freeman, to connect the dots. But what we are connecting, I think, is these industrial wind, industrial solar, and industrial transmission lines are one of the biggest land grabs or assaults upon property rights that we’ve ever seen in this country. Do you think that’s too strong of a statement?
SPEAKER 12 :
I think it absolutely 100% accurate. And over the last several months, I didn’t anticipate that I would have to become sort of an expert in this area and dive into the issues of public utilities and these government-sanctioned monopolies and how that scheme works to wrest private property away from property owners and it’s alarming and it’s happening all over the country and it’s just getting worse because of the AI and the data center build out and all of that. It’s amazing what people with power and money connected with government power and money can do to take away your rights.
SPEAKER 21 :
And it’s called cronyism. There’s no such thing as crony capitalism. Capitalism is the free exchange of value for value. But cronyism, and I never really put those words crony and capitalism in the same sentence. Cronyism is basically when government and big business, They basically get into bed with each other and then they use that power. And we’re seeing that via eminent domain. An eminent domain in the Constitution is to be very, very limited. But they are, I think, Van Screeman, they’re trying to make the argument that it is for the, and I have this in air quotes, public good to take this land throughout the Midwest and the West for transmission lines because people need power. Well, ultimately, you mentioned these data centers. These data centers are energy hogs, water hogs. And so it seems like instead of… And I also look at this and I’m like, what are all this data for? Well, I think it’s all this data being collected on us. And I know that AI has a… a role, but the surveillance of our citizens I’m concerned about as well. But this is all connected. I want you to talk, though, here. We’ve got about five minutes, and you have connected some dots on a variety of things, Vance Freeman.

Yeah, thanks so much. And I guess what we’re trying to do with Protect the Prairie, and you can go to protecttheprairie.com to get more information about what’s happening. in our little corner of the world in Southeast Kansas. But what’s happened there is that there is an organization called the Southwest Power Pool. And it is a nonprofit, but it is a state-sanctioned monopoly. And what it does is it hands out and directs contracts to large publicly traded utilities. And when the SPP gives a utility the clearance to build a transmission line, well, then the utilities can then go to that state like Oklahoma or Kansas or Colorado and get the ability to use eminent domain. And once a utility has that power, which is to say, well, if you don’t want me coming on your land, I can go get a court order That orders you, unless you want to go to jail, it orders you to give the utility some portion of your land. And that’s what’s happened in this case. There’s a 133-mile transmission line project that Evergy Energy has received blessings from the Southwest Power Pool Fork. Now, this line goes from east of Wichita and picks up wind power over there, and then it runs it like a extension cord through the Flint Hills, which is a protected ecosystem. It’s the largest carbon capture ecosystem in North America, which is so ironic that it’s being destroyed for renewable energy. Don’t get me started on that. It runs from Kansas, east of Kansas, picks up windmill power, runs it through the tall grass prairie, destroys, permanently destroys native habitat. And then it deposits that power out over into northeastern Oklahoma. And it does not deliver any power to any of the counties along that 133 mile line to anybody in Kansas. And then it goes And then it goes out down into Oklahoma where it can be shipped to Branson or to these Tulsa data centers or whatever. But it does not strengthen the grid for rural Kansans who that’s the need in Kansas. But yet Kansans have to pay for this line. They’re going to pay by increased rate for a line that does not benefit them at all. And it sounds almost Kim, it sounds so unfair that you’re thinking that can’t be right, but that’s what’s happening. And unfortunately, as your show is doing so well to highlight, it’s happening in other parts of the country too. So I would ask that if that offends you, which it should, as an American who loves the Constitution and private property rights, and who loves our environmental heritage, please go to protecttheprairie.com and add your name to our petition. Well, and when you and I talked yesterday, this is just late breaking. I had mentioned Virginia Maka, who’s also in Southeast Kansas and she’s, she’s on this as well. You, you, I know you both are going to try to get connected, which is really important. But this, as you said, it’s happening across the country and, We’ve got a transmission line, the situation in Elbert County, Colorado. We’re going to have representative Chris Richardson on tomorrow regarding that issue. Winnie Volk up in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They’re going to have a big, uh, rally regarding, um, that would be industrial wind projects, but of course you have to have transmission lines with that. And that’ll be the first part of June. And she’s asked if I would speak, uh, at that, which I’m going to be happy to do. Uh, Vance Freeman, we’re going to have to stay connected. I will get this petition signed. Yeah, I would just say, you know, please, I love that, Kim, you’re highlighting all these different areas in which this is happening. I think that to be a responsible citizen, we need to try to stay abreast of these things and oppose them in different places. And so I’m going to be, those other causes that you just talked about, I’m going to make sure that I can get involved there and express my disapproval because, like you said, this is a, it’s a huge crisis and it’s one of the biggest land grabs in the history of our nation, really.
